Rain, hail, and some football

Don't let those blue skies fool you

This has been my worst weather year in a long time.  You know how when you go on a vacation or have a big event or even just a day planned, you hope the weather will cooperate with you?  Well normally, things typically work in my favor more often than not.  However, this year has been a lot bit different.  And of course, it's probably been one of the biggest years of my life!

Spring break in Florida in April - cold and rainy
Bachelorette party in June - cold and windy
Rehearsal dinner in July - downpoured.all.day
Wedding day in July - COLD and windy
My honeymoon started with a tropical storm

So, when I bought tickets to an outdoor sporting event in the middle of October, I just should have known.  Part of me was hoping that all of this bad weather earlier in the year would mean I would get at least one break, right?  It wasn't meant to be though and despite, the cold, rainy weather on Saturday, we had a blast at the University of Michigan football game!

The weekend started on Friday with a day off work and lots of cooking to be done!  I made pumpkin spice puppy chow (seriously, yum, I need to get this recipe on the blog ASAP) and taco dip for tailgating.  I had never made either recipe before but they turned out great!  After Nick got home from work, we packed up the car and headed to my family's house in Michigan.  We got in about 10 pm EST and decided to swing by Pizza Hut and grab a pizza -- who, by the way, have a special for a $10 large pizza with unlimited toppings right now!

Saturday morning came bright and early!  8 am we were out the door.  We stopped at the McDonalds in town and met up with some family who were also joining us for the game.  We had breakfast and the 10 of us hit the road in our motorhome about 9:30 am.  There were lots of card games played, magazines read, and catching up to do so the ride went pretty quickly.

We arrived in Ann Arbor and the tailgating began!  Unfortunately, it was raining and COLD.  Luckily, we had chili, hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta salad, and so much more to keep us entertained.  It finally began to clear up around 2:15 and we actually saw the sun!  We got out from under our awning and threw the football around.

We started to head to the game and about 2 minutes into our hike to the football field, the rain began.  Thankfully, we were prepared with our ponchos and we were all huddled under blankets while we walked.  The walk took about 15 minutes and as we approached the field, the HAIL began.  What?!  I so wish I would have gotten a picture of this.  It was coming down pretty hard so we stopped under some pine trees and waited for it to pass.

We finally made it to the stadium and we had to split up.  Nick and I hadn't decided to go to the game until a couple of weeks ago so we had bought our tickets separate and therefore had different seats.  My family went in to the game and Nick and I went on the hunt for the box office to pick up our tickets.  After we grabbed them, it started to clear up again!  We made our way into the stadium, found our seats and the game began.

Looking cute in his poncho :)

Half way through the first quarter, the rain started again and this time it downpoured for a good 10 minutes.  We were soaked!  Luckily, that was the last of the rain and we got to enjoy the rest of our football game dry.

A touchdown for Michigan!

 Trying to stay dry!

It was a really good game with lots of scoring which made it exciting.  The final score was 47-63 with a Michigan win!  We stayed warm for the most part, thanks to our 6,483 layers of clothing and blankets and had a blast.

Sunday morning, we went out to breakfast with my family and hit the road back to Chicago around noon.  There was lots of obsessing over the pretty colors of leaves and some snacking on the ride home...

Michigan is beautiful this time of year

Someone had to finish it off..

The rest of the day was pretty laid back with some grocery shopping, church, a yummy dinner, and some Friday Night Lights (now onto season 3!) which is exactly what we needed.

One of my most favorite dinners

Hope you all had a great weekend!

  3. The weather this year has just been so ridiculous. It makes me sad how the warm weather was so fleeting

  4. Not gonna lie, it was a bit difficult to swallow the "Breathe if you hate Ohio State shirt" but I managed. :) Glad you had a good weekend despite the rain. Can't wait for that puppy chow recipe.

  5. Okay girl, you're literally killing me now with more food photos. Taco Dip? Pumpkin Spice Puppy Chow? Whatever that deliciousness is at the end of this post?? OH MY GOSH!! ;)

I'm so sorry that you had crappy weather this weekend, but good for you for trying to have a good attitude about it all. I'm over here in So Cal still waiting for our fall weather to arrive. Can I switch places with you? I'm sick of this heat.
