Five on Friday: November Bucket List Edition 11/1

Happy November 1st!

November is exciting to me because I feel that it's the official start to the holiday season!  I love everything about Thanksgiving - the food, visiting family, the blessed and thankful feelings surrounding the day.  I'm also looking ahead to Christmas - finishing up my Christmas list (yes, at 25 years old my dad still needs an actual list) and counting down the days til I put up my Christmas tree and turn on the Christmas music.  We also usually get our first snow in Chicago in November and as much as winter sucks, the first snow is always kind of magical!

I'm going to do something a little different today and instead of my five favorite things from this week, I'm going to tell you my five things I want to accomplish in November!  It's like a November bucket list.  Still linking up with Lauren Elizabeth and A. Liz Adventures!

 In November, I want to...

1) Bake a pumpkin pie- I've really gotten into baking this year and nothing says November and Thanksgiving like a pumpkin pie!  I've never made one myself but since receiving my Kitchen Aid mixer and all kinds of baking supplies at my wedding, I feel like I can handle one this holiday season.  This recipe makes it look easy enough!

2) Hit up the Black Friday sales- This is my dad and I's annual tradition.  Getting up in the middle of the night to go out into the cold to fight the crowds may not sound like a lot of fun, but we always have a good time!  We comb through the sale papers on Thanksgiving evening and come up with a list of stores to hit and always score some really good deals.  I look forward to it every year!

3) Organize our finances- This is so boring that I can't even believe I'm putting it on here but it's something we NEED to get done!  We have a budget in place that is working but we receive all paper bills that get thrown in random places after we bring up the mail and there is just no organized system.  I'd like to get a little filing cabinet for our office so we have everything in one place.  I've been meaning to do this since August so hopefully by putting this on here it will hold me accountable!

4) Try the cinnamon rolls at Ann Sather's- I've been hearing great things about breakfast at Ann Sather's since I moved to Chicago 3.5 years ago and I've still never been there!  This is going to change in November.  I'm going to drag Nick up there one Saturday or Sunday morning and we are going to feast on their famous cinnamon rolls (and then go home and take food induced coma-naps).

5) Attend Chicago's Christmas tree lighting ceremony-  2013 marks the 100th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Daley Plaza.  It is a Chicago tradition that I have yet to attend but have always wanted to.  I love Chicago at Christmas time so this will be a great way to kick off the holiday season.  If you live in the area, it is November 26th!

What's on your November bucket list?  I know one great way for you to start your month off right.. make my delicious pumpkin brownies!

How can you say no to those?!

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

  20. I love Black Friday shopping. I usually don't have much at all to buy even, but there's something about it which is unusual and fun and exciting to me. And they do have good deals! I've never made a pie in my lifetime, though. I find them somewhat intimidating.
