Five on Friday 12/20: Christmas Movies

I am especially excited to see Friday this week because it means Christmas vacation!!!!  I have to work late tonight but as of 9 pm Friday, December 20th, I am on vacation until December 26th!

And speaking of Christmas vacations, I thought I would use this last Friday before Christmas (where did the time go?!) to express my love for my favorite Christmas movies!  I'm a fan of pretty much any holiday related movie - yes, even those Hallmark and Lifetime cheesy movies!  However, these are the 5 movies that I MUST watch every holiday season.  So in order, here are my top 5 favorite Christmas movies of all time...

1. White Christmas

Words can't express how much I love this movie.  I can honestly tear up just thinking about it!  White Christmas is tied with Father of the Bride for my favorite movie of all time.  It was my mom's favorite Christmas movie so it will always hold a special place in my heart.  We watched it every single Christmas growing up and I will continue that tradition for as long as I can :)  I don't feel like it's Christmas until I've watched this classic!

2. Christmas Story

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid!"  TBS plays this movie for 24 straight hours on Christmas and I probably spend about 10 hours just watching and watching on repeat.  This movie just makes me laugh.  I think my favorite part is when they are at the Chinese restaurant and the employees are trying to sing jingle bells with their accents!

3. Elf

How can you not love this movie?  I've honestly never met someone that doesn't like Elf.  Anytime it is on TV, I have to stop everything and watch it.  Even in June.. who knows why it was on TV in June but either way, I think it is hilarious year round.  Will Farrell is just so good in this movie!

4. Home Alone

This movie is actually making a comeback on my favorites list.  I loved it growing up but hadn't seen it in a few years.  Until this year.. I watched Home Alone and Home Alone 2, four nights in a row.  Yes, four.  Thank you AMC.  I had totally forgot how much I loved this movie!  Nick sent me this article after our week of watching it and it made me laugh.  It's so true!

5. Christmas Vacation

I know.. this is most people's favorite Christmas movie.  I definitely like it but sometimes Chevy Chase can be a bit much for me!  Even though I just raved about Will Farrell as Elf.. I don't get it either.  It's Nick's favorite Christmas movie so we will always watch it.  Seeing Cousin Eddie in his dickie is always a guaranteed laugh!

There are sooo many more movies that I love - It's a Wonderful Life, Four Christmases, Love Actually, Home Alone 2, The Santa Clause - but these are my 5 absolute favorites.  What is your favorite Christmas movie?

  1. Great list!! My fav Christmas movies are probably a tie between Christmas Vacation and Christmas Story. We, too, have it on repeat Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. And you've seen the pic of Robert dressed up as Cousin Eddie, so that's clearly a huge favorite in our family. :)

  2. I agree with all those except for A Christmas Story. I don't know why but I never liked that one. But every Christmas Eve hubby and I watch Chevy Chase before bed :)

  3. White Christmas is probably my all time favorite as well! I have to admit I may have watched Holiday in Handcuffs more than once this year... an abc family classic! haha

  4. Confession: I watched A Christmas Story for the first time all the way through like a month ago with my husband and my in-laws, and I fell asleep 3/4 of the way through! I couldn't help it, the couch was too comfy and I was so tired! But the parts that I did see were so hilarious...it really is a great movie.

  5. You've hit all of my favorite movies! Christmas Vacation is my favvvvorite. Can you believe I never saw White Christmas until last year? I'm a big fan of it now :) I would add The Grinch to this list, I like the newer version, but the animated version holds a special place in my heard! We also have a tradition of watching It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas :)
