Wedding 7.27.2013 - Part 2

Last week, I kicked off my wedding recap and started with my rehearsal dinner.  Check it out here!

After a couple glasses of wine following the dinner, my girls and I headed to bed.  It was a mostly sleepless night for me as I was so excited!  It was like being a kid on Christmas Eve all over again.

Saturday morning came bright and early as we woke up around 8 am.  We were getting our hair and makeup done at my house instead of heading into the salon and that was one of the best decisions I made regarding wedding planning!  We had Panera for breakfast catered in, relaxed, lots of girl talk and got all dolled up.  It was perfect.

After hair and makeup, we were actually about a half hour ahead of schedule which totally shocked me!  I really didn't want to be behind and stressed about being late all day so I was really happy.  It was so nice to take our time and not be rushed.

Next, it was finally time to put the dress on!  I was nervous on how it was going to fit because I lost about 5 pounds the week of the wedding (that's what not eating all week will do to you) and we had maybe 5 or 6 last minute alteration appointments that week because the dress was not fitting right.  I put it on and it fit like a glove thankfully!  I was so comfortable in it which had been one of my biggest requirements while selecting a dress.  We didn't meet up with our photographers until we got to the church unfortunately so my only getting ready pictures are ones my friends took :)

My dress had a long train that I was going to leave down for the ceremony and then bustle for the reception.  I figured I would bustle it on the way to the church so it wasn't dragging and getting dirty and then unbustle it right before I walked down the aisle.  That didn't quite work out as the bustle BROKE while we doing it!  That was the one big panic moment because I really, really did not want the train down all night.  We ended up sewing our own bustle but that meant I wouldn't be able to take it down for the ceremony.  I was okay with it - I actually liked the dress better bustled!

We have a huge balcony on the front of our house and taking pictures on it all started a couple of years ago during a girls beach weekend in Holland.  It was the summer after the royal wedding and we took the stupidest picture up there trying to recreate the famous balcony picture!  We couldn't leave the house without getting a picture on the balcony of course!

The trolley arrived right on time and we rode it on the 5 minute trip to the church.  Still running early!

When we got to the church, we still had a little over 2 hours until the ceremony started.  We first ate lunch (the girls ate lunch, I still wasn't eating haha) and then Nick and I did our "first look".  He really wanted to wait to see me the first time when I walked down the aisle but I really wanted to take pictures before hand.  Pictures first ended up winning out :)  Our first look was still really special though and I definitely don't think it took away from the emotional-ness of walking down the aisle!

I immediately relaxed the second we were together again.  We had been apart the entire week as I had been in Holland and he was still in Chicago (at work, poor guy) and I had really missed him!  And with that, the picture taking began!

About 45 minutes before the ceremony was scheduled to start, we each headed back to our respective "waiting places" so guests wouldn't see us as they arrived.  The church looked beautiful, the flowers turned out perfectly, our programs arrived and everything and everyone was on schedule.  Besides the freezing weather, the day was going perfectly so far.

All that was left to do, was get married!  The 45 minutes waiting draaagged on.  We wasted the time taking (more) pictures and obsessively checking the time.

The poor boys had to get ready in the church nursery haha

About 10 minutes to 4 pm, our pastor came back and told us that everyone was seated and we should start making our way to the sanctuary.  FINALLY.  We met up with the boys and everyone began to line up.  I could hardly believe my 10 months of planning all came down to this!

Our families were seated and then it was TIME!  Next Tuesday, down the aisle we go...

  7. I would have loved to get ready at my parents house but my stepmom vetoed it. She didn't want a huge mess, which I understand to an extent. We got the salon instead, then chick fil a ;)

  11. I love your dress and the bridesmaids dresses. Where did you get their dresses?! I am having a tough time picking out dresses for my girls. I feel more stressed about that than finding my own dress...

    1. Thank you! I got the dresses at Bella Bridesmaid in Chicago (but they have locations around the country) and they are Monique Lhuillier, style 450024. I had a hard time deciding on BM dresses, too!
