Five on Friday 1/10

Happy Friday!  I'm so excited the weekend is here because we are going skiing tomorrow!  It's been years (think middle school) since I've been so I'll probably have to start on the bunny hills and just pray I don't break anything.  Either way, I'm sure it will be an adventure!  Here's my top 5 tidbits from this week...

1) We took down our Christmas tree last weekend and now we have a sad, empty corner of our apartment to fill.  Pre-Christmas, we had a small lamp and fake plant that belonged to our friend and I didn't like that set up.  Our friend just moved so we gave him back the fake plant which now means we have nothing for our corner!  People that are good with interior design.. help me here!  What should I fill this awkward corner with?!

2) Don't judge me but I actually bought some La Mer.  I've been wanting to try this stuff for the last year and my skin has been especially bothering me with the artic temps here so I figured now was the time.  I had some left over Christmas money and the fact that they now offer the Soft Cream in a .5 oz jar just pushed me over the "should I buy it" ledge.  I got it for less than $100 which makes me feel better about myself.  I'm just going to ignore the fact that this jar is going to last me probably a whole 3 weeks.  I'll be writing a review on it after I use it for a little bit!

3) God will give you more than you can handle: I guarantee it.  Everyone should read this article.  I think I've read it about 15 times in the last day.  I even shared in on Facebook and I normally don't do that kind of thing.  This article really hit home with me - maybe it's because I've also lost a parent, maybe it's because I've had that moment where I asked God "why me?", maybe it's because this woman has put my exact thoughts into words in a way I've never been able to.  Check it out and let me know what you think!

4) We had Nick's favorite pasta for dinner last night.  Almost anytime I ask him what he wants for dinner, he replies with this prosciutto pasta.  Look for the recipe here on Meal Monday!

5) So much good TV has returned this week!  I know my opinion of "good" TV may be questionable but either way, don't read any further if you aren't caught up on Downton Abbey, The Bachelor or Pretty Little Liars yet- I wouldn't want to potentially spoil anything because that is the worst.  Loved Downton Abbey but I really missed Matthew.  Lady Mary and I haven't quite recovered from that yet.  The Bachelor was good but I can't wait for it to really get going!  I love when the crazies come out and the drama begins.  I mean we don't actually watch this show for the love story, do we?  And Pretty Little Liars is just confusing me these days.  So we know Ali is really alive but there are just so many unanswered questions and so many storylines left hanging that it's starting to annoy me.  I like this show but I think they need to wrap it up soon.  Any thoughts?

Enjoy your weekends and don't forget to link up with us on Thursday for Thankful Thursdays! :)

  3. So I am definitely not an interior designer or anything, but you could always do a little gallery wall over there...but like I said I have no clue!! So excited we share an affinity for the same shows! Can't wait for your review of the cream - I use Olay as a moisturizer and have been using it for the past 4 years...love it and the price lol! Happy weekend and have so much fun skiing!!

  4. I can't wait to hear if you like La Mer. I'm always so fascinated in uber expensive skin care. I like the gallery wall idea for that open space!

  6. That's an incredible article and so true! Thanks for sharing it!! I'm not interior designer, but here are my ideas. A small table with a lamp on it. A floor lamp. A real plant. A three or four tiered shelf to tuck in the corner on an angle with cute accessories on it. A large floor length mirror. A basket with some blankets in them with some pictures on the wall. Maybe those all stink or maybe you'll like one of them. :) Happy Friday!

  8. I suggest for the time being, move that glass vase with the sticks in it down until you find something else.

I'm very excited for the Bachelor...Juan Pablo is hot!

  9. Maybe you can fill that corner with a cute shelf? I LOVE the look of ladder shelves, and you can get a few decor pieces to put on the different shelves.

That pasta looks delicious!! I haven't watched the first episode of PLL yet, because I wanted to start from the beginning of season 4 and remember everything that's happened...ughhh nooooooooo EZRA!!

  10. I'm definitely going to read & bookmark that article! Thank you for sharing!

Ahhh Downton! It started off a bit slow but I'm excited for the new characters to come into play-- I really wish they could get rid of Thomas once and for all! I was a little annoyed they believed what he said about Anna considering how close they are with her and how shady he always is!

And I randomly watch PLL...I started watching it in the fall and I had never seen an episode before so I don't even fully understand what's going on but somehow I got hooked into it and it's my guilty pleasure! Is Ezra totally part of it, or are they still trying to trick us??? haha

  11. I say a new, easy plant for that corner would look great. Can't wait to see your pasta recipe on Monday - that looks fantastic. Not all the way caught up with Downton but they better find another British stud to replace Matthew ASAP. Have a great weekend!

  12. A great week, indeed!

I love PLL, but I am ready for it to end, as well. It has been a great show, but it is getting too busy in ideas!

  13. I feel the same way about where my Christmas tree was. There was nothing there before it, but now that it's down, the room looks kinda naked.

  14. The feeling I had after taking down my tree was first sadness then I was like what the heck am I going to do with this HUGE empty corner I didn't notice before. Christmas problems!

  15. Just found your blog through the 5 on Friday link-up. So... I must be living under a rock, never heard of the cream, but I'd love to hear how it works....I'm starting to look older and need some help! :) I love Downton and The Bachelor. Haven't watched this season yet. How was it? Glad to find your blog! New follower--not stalker ;)

  16. I'd move the glass vase into the corner and get some taller sticks or a taller arrangement for it. Then maybe center the tv cabinet on the wall. You could also look for a skinny shelf or ladder type of shelf that leans on the wall for that corner.

  17. I use La Mer, too, so you know I support your decisions! I am going to need a new jar soon, so I'm glad to hear they sell it in .5 now!

  18. That article...so true! I'm so thankful we don't have to bear any burdens in our own power, because without Jesus I'd be one mess of a gal. Who am I kidding? I'm still a mess, ha! But I could so relate with the author, as I'm sure you could too with having lost a parent. Losing my dad to cancer was the hardest thing to accept yet the most peace filled time that is so incredibly hard to explain other than God. And I'm glad you didn't post the recipe for your Meal Monday that turned out gross, because I am totally pinning the prosciutto pasta to make in the next week!! And for your empty corner, you should look for some vintage suitcases to stack on top of each other with some books and a small vase or maybe a tall mirror with a vase in front on the floor?? :)
