Five on Friday 1/3

Happy Friday!  I know it was an extremely short work week but doesn't it feel like it's really dragging on?  I'm definitely a routine person and these last 2 weeks have not seen any sort of routine.  While I'm thankful for all the extra time with friends and family and less work than normal, I'm actually looking forward to next week.  Getting back to my normal schedule of work, blogging, eating, etc.  It will feel good!  Now here's my high five for this first Friday of 2014...

1) I've been living in a snow globe the last few days!  It started snowing on NYE and didn't stop until Thursday evening.  Parts of Chicago got over 18 inches of snow!  Everything looks so pretty in the snow but it made for a pretty crappy drive to work Thursday morning.  My car got stuck not once, but twice, and Nick had to come dig me out!  I made it to work in about 75 minutes - which sadly, isn't a bad drive time for Chicago.

All you Southerners say a little thank you to God right now that you don't have to experience the horribleness that is sideways snow :)

2) We had a wonderful New Years Eve!  We celebrated with 4 of our friends at a Greek restaurant in Lakeview.  We had an amazing dinner and drinks and it was a really small restaurant so at midnight, everyone celebrated together!  Here is our group pic - and our waiter who accidentally took a selfie while taking our picture!

3) Yesterday was the first edition of Thankful Thursday!  A few of you linked up with us and I LOVED it!  We are so looking forward to doing this all year and hope even more of you will join next Thursday :)

4) This Sunday night brings the return of two of my favorite shows: Downton Abbey and The Bachelor!  I am already stressing about which one I'm going to watch live - although, I know Downton Abbey will win out since Nick watches that one with me.. The Bachelor, not so much!

5) My mom passed away 9.5 years ago and one of the few possessions I have of hers is her Bible.  I recently grabbed it while I was home in Michigan and have been looking through it and reading all of her little notes :)  I noticed in the back it has a 1 year reading plan so I've started it on January 1st!  It's almost like we are reading it together.

Enjoy your weekend!

  3. That picture is definitely making me thankful for the weather down here in GA! It's going to be 41 degrees today (which is FREEZING for us, lol!) but nothing compared to what you guys are dealing with!!! Be safe!

Loving that you got your Mom's Bible. What an amazing way to keep her close. Love it.

  4. I'm definitely jealous of your snow but not that your car got stuck, twice! I watched the first episode of Downton Abbey and it kind of bored me. I've heard it gets better but I just can't bring myself to watch anymore! Your Mom's bible is super sweet. Have a great weekend!

  6. Another Chicago girl!!!!!! Hasn't this snow been crazy? But it's super pretty too. My family and I might venture out today - I'm tired of being stuck in the house!

And good luck with the Bible in a year. I've done it twice, and it's hard, but totally worth it! I thought about doing it again this year, but I've been awful about reading my Bible lately, so I'm going to ease back into it. :)

  9. Stay warm! Boston got a lot of snow over the past few days too! It's a bit of a mess outside which throws my routine off as well. Hopefully we'll both get back on our routine soon!

  12. How amazing you have your mom's Bible. Love that. You are most definitely living in a snow globe, although we are getting into the teens tonight (just no snow). Can't wait for Downton Abbey either! Love, love those crazy Crawleys.

  14. So sorry that you got stuck in the snow twice, what a bummer!! Come move to California, we never get snow unless if you're in the mountains! :)
I'm very curious to see how Juan Pablo's season is going to be like...I thought he was hilarious on Desiree's season, but I'm a little skeptical on him being THE bachelor. We'll see! And my husband's cousin is letting me borrow all of her Downton Abbey's seasons so I can watch them all and catch up! I can't wait.

  15. I'm so over the snow and cold as well-- it is pretty and festive but it's awful for driving or even just having to clear off your car...I'm not a fan! I am SO excited for Downton Abbey as well! I feel like I've been waiting forever and it's finally here. The bible reading plan sounds amazing-- it's so nice that it's something you can incorporate into everyday :)

  19. I couldn't agree more on the routine thing! It has been wonderful having so much family and friends time, but I do crave routine! My mother-in-law was at our house visiting from Sunday until yesterday. She was pretty lucky to make it home to Chicago....just had a 2 hour delay but made it home. I'm SO excited for The Bachelor!! Eek!!! Oh my heart, I love that you're reading the Bible "with" your mom. So sweet!!!

  20. I can't wait for The Bachelor!!! So glad it's Juan Pablo. That is so special that you have your moms bible and you can use it to remain close to her. I lost my mom a year and a half ago. I wear her favorite diamond necklace when I'm missing her.
