Thankful Thursday: Week 7

Thankful Thursday falls on a bittersweet day for me this week.  February 13th is supposed to be our friend Adam's 27th birthday.  We lost Adam to a 3 year battle with cancer this July and it was just truly not fair.  I talked a little bit about Adam's story in this wedding recap but he was Nick's fraternity brother, my "stand in boyfriend" when Nick couldn't make it to things, our roommate for a few months in Chicago and lastly, was supposed to be one of our groomsmen.  Adam was so thankful for life and it's only fitting that his birthday falls on my designated "thankful Thursday".  He was full of love for his friends and family, energy and a passion for life that even cancer couldn't hold back.  We miss him so much and wish so badly that he was here to celebrate with us.  I'm so thankful for the years that we got to spend with him as he truly made our world a better place.  Happy Birthday, Adam!

As I mentioned previously, Nick and I just got new phones and he made the jump to an iPhone!  Nick was away for work and this was our first time using Facetime :)  It makes being apart a little easier!

Friday, February 7

For someone who is always freezing, how I've never owned an electric heated blanket is beside me.  Our apartment is so drafty in the winter and I was over the cold so I used our leftover wedding gift cards to buy a heated blanket from Bed Bath and Beyond - which turned out to be the best decision I've made all winter.  Friday night was spent with this baby cranked to high and watching the opening ceremonies!

Saturday, February 8

We had to celebrate our Valentine's Day early as I have to work all this weekend so on Saturday night, we ventured out to a new restaurant (for us) called Roy's.  Roy's has locations in Hawaii as well and it was on our list of restaurants to try while on our honeymoon but we never found the time to go.  It's funny because someone just asked me what the best meal of my life was and I honestly didn't have an answer.  But now I do!  We had a mai tai, edamame, pork ribs, butterfish, ahi tuna and cheesecake - best.meal.ever.

Sunday, February 9

After an afternoon at work, coming home to a clean house and fresh flowers was an amazing surprise!  It was so unexpected and sweet!

Monday, February 10

I found them!!!  After Lisa at Two Martini's posted a picture of these bad boys, I knew they had to be out near me since Lisa also lives in Chicago.  She told me where she found them and I had them in my hands an hour later #noshame.  In reality, I was a little disappointed!  I didn't taste cookie dough at all - almost more of a sweet coffee taste?  They were a little strange.  I think I'll stick to my double stuff or mint oreos from here on out!

Tuesday, February 11

My little car hit 128,000 miles!  As much as I love to complain about the thing (it's my car from HIGH school), there is really no point in getting a new one - and taking on a monthly payment - when I only drive maybe 3 times a week here in the city.  I'm thankful that at 13 years old, we haven't really had any major problems with it!

Sephora makes me happy and Sephora reward products make me really happy!  I've been dying to try both of these products - especially the Dior Show - and now I get to, for free!

Now, go ahead and link up with myself and three co-hosts: Mia at Make Me Up Mia, Kristal at The Strong Family and Carly at Carly Blogs Here!

  7. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend *hugs* on this bittersweet day.

And I've been seeing those cookie dough oreos everywhere, I think it's time to pick up a bag and try them out myself. I've been hearing mixed reviews, but I love cookie dough oh so much!

  8. Oh I'm so bummed to hear about the Oreos being a bust! I can do some serious damage with the mint ones. Gorgeous flowers ;-)

  9. I agree, the Oreos weren't AS cookie doughy as I had anticipated, they were just a little bit sweeter and brown sugary maybe?! But I still plan on keeping some around the house to mix in with my regular Oreos. One can never have too many Oreos dunked in milk, you know!

  11. Such a sweet post about Adam <3

I have my car from high school too! As much as I would love a new car, there really isn't anything wrong with it, and it's definitely nice not to have to worry about a car payment. Those flowers are so pretty and that dinner looks/sounds delicious & I'm not even a big seafood person!

Sephora has the best point perks right now! I just got the eye cream too!

  13. What a beautiful way to remember your friend Adam! We got a new heating blanket for Christmas and I'm not sure how we lived without it. Your husband definitely wins "Husband of the Week" award, so sweet! I LOVE Sephora freebies! When I'm feeling extra poor I redeem my points for new fun stuff.

  14. Sorry about your loss. It's so nice that you can remember the good times and dedicate part of your post to him. That heated blanket looks divine right about now. This bitter cold got old quickly.

Coming home to a clean house! Awesomeness! :)
    Happy Valentine's Day <3

  17. Since my husband is a fireman I have to tell you to check out some safety guidelines on the electric blanket! There are a few "rules" to using it that you may not be aware of! :)
