Awkward and Awesome

A W K W A R D
+ Having my neighbor knock on our door to let me know that I left my keys hanging in the lock outside.  For someone that is super paranoid about locked doors and security in general, I can't believe I did that!

+ Spending 10+ minutes trying to pick out a new razor at the store for my husband.  Why are there so many options?  And what do things like "Hybrid Advanced Blades" or "Pivot Plus with Lubricating Strips" even mean?

+ The fact that I've been married for 10 months now and I still can't sign my name properly.  My first name looks beautiful and then it all goes downhill with my last name scribbles.

+ Holding up traffic to parallel park.  I must say, living in Chicago has made me a professional parallel parker but it's still awkward when you've got cars lined up waiting on you to squeeze your car in the tiniest spot known to man.  Talk about pressure.

+ I always keep a travel size bottle of Tylenol in my purse.  Sometimes I'll be walking down the street and the pills will be rattling around in the bottle SO loudly.  Love it when people give me the side eye trying to figure out what drugs I've got in there.

+ I love the ladies at my nail salon but I feel terrible that I can never understand what they're saying.  I always feel like the biggest jerk saying "what?" after everything they say to me.

+ Lease negotiations with your landlord are not that fun.  More info about that coming soon!

+ Allergies make me just want to stay holed up in my apartment.  My nose is bright red and sniffly, my eyes are bloodshot and I've got a sinus headache pretty much 24/7.  Not a pretty look.

+ So I'm still driving my car from high school and for the most part, it's still holding up really well.  Living downtown, I rarely drive so there is no point in spending the money on a new car right now.  However, for the last year I've had to deal with the little problem of my windows not staying rolled up.  Yes, they actually fall down.  Every couple of days I have to go and manually pull the windows back up with my hands.

+ Our plans for our Charleston anniversary trip are coming along!  It's hard to believe we'll be celebrating our first anniversary in only a couple of months.  I'll be sharing more info about our trip soon.

+ Eating this cake for breakfast.  It has fruit in it so it's basically healthy.  No shame.

+ There are few things better than freshly washed sheets.  Clean sheets and rain on the roof made for the best nights sleep ever last night.

+ The fact that there is finally no snow in the 10 day forecast.  FINALLY.  Bring it on spring.

+ I'm so terrible about reading.  I love it but never make the time for it.  The last two days, I have made a point to sit down and read and it was so nice.  It was fun to get into a book again!

+ Have I been living in a cave?  I just discovered Warby Parker and I'll take one of each pair of sunglasses, please.

+ I take a hot shower every night and it might be my favorite part of the day.  I'm not a big bath person but I'll stand in the shower for an hour if you let me.  Thank goodness we live in a building with unlimited hot water.

+ Instagram.  I just love it.  I've always liked taking pictures so it's definitely my favorite form of social media.  Follow me here :)

+ Cute red shorts from Forever 21 for only $8.80.  On their way to me now!

Happy Tuesday!  Linking up with Khala and friends for Tuesday Tea.

  1. Love this!! Totally agree that signing a new last name is hard...fun in theory but making it look cute and pretty hard!! Yay for Charleston! That will be so much fun!! It's shameful that I have no idea how to parallel park and would rather circle around trying to find a spot I can just drive into haha!

  2. I can NEVER pick out Jon's razor. One he is too picky and two why are there so many options? I can't tell what's a scam and what's worth the money! It took me forever to sign my last name consistently and normally. I'm still not sure if I like how I do it? I am still so excited for you two to go to Charleston. Can't wait to see the trip on Insta :)

  3. F21 seriously has the best stuff for super cheap! I love walking out of there with a bag full of great stuff for only like $40 or $50.

And don't worry I can't understand them at my nail place either sometimes. I just nod and smile if I say what one too many times ;-)

  4. Those sunglasses are so cute and I can totally relate to you on all of the awkward things, especially the nail salon and parking ones haha!

  5. LOL if it makes you feel any better I spend like 10 mins trying to figure out what razor to pick out for me so you are not alone! And I'm looking at women's razors, you'd think it'd be an easy decision! I give you props for just being able to parallel park, I definitely can't do it! I will literally walk a mile before attempting to parallel park. Stupid FL driving school doesn't teach you that! Um, that cake looks amazing. And it's healthy? Yes please!!

  7. I have a bottle of pills too, that includes ib profen, tums, allergy meds and benadryl. I sound like a pill lady too!

  9. Standing with nothing to do in the shower is one of my favorite pastimes. I'm terribly awkward about parallel parking too - I like zero witnesses but fate never works out that way, does it?

  10. HA! I love this! Confession: I can't parallel park! ugh!

    1. Haha I think a lot of people do! I always want to tell them it's just Tylenol when I catch them looking but that may make things even more awkward!

  14. So my fiance discovered that he likes my razors better than his. He says the girl razors feel better on his face. Talk about that one being awkward when the first time I walk into the bathroom & he's shaving with my razor! He finally just started using men's razors again, thank god! I went into Forever 21 for the first time in a while the other day & was really happy about some of things I found but then was super appalled by others.

  15. Love this post Katie :) Cake with fruit in it is definitely healthy... and I'm kind of addicted to IG. What is it about seeing pictures of everyone's life that draws us in?! Clean sheet are my FAVE.

  16. Love this post, girly. And that cake makes me SO hungry just looking at it!

I'm also addicted to IG! :)

  17. I love the concept of this post! My husband left his keys in the door to our house the other day, too, and then we proceeded to spend an hour looking for them. Needless to say I wasn't too thrilled when we found them! Also, I'm with you on men's razors - why are there SO many options?! A razor is a razor, isn't it? I need to make that fruit cake stat ... it looks so delicious!

  18. I've not been to Charleston, but it's one of the places I want to visit! Can't wait to read about your trip! I can tell you after being married for 3.5 years my first name is still 'pretty', but the last name... hot mess.

  19. This post was the best! My husband leaves his keys in the door all. the. time. Glad your neighbor got them back to you and not some crazy person ;) I agree clean sheets are one of the best feelings ever!

  20. Girl just about every day after I walk away from my door I go back and check....it really is a problem! :-) Oh after living in a city parallel parking is such a must but I agree it is always intimidating the minute you start to hold up 5 angry city people. Ugh I mean they have blades that vibrate now! What every happened to a simple razor???

  21. loved everything in this post. eeeeek to keys in the door! that has happened to me!

  22. Yipee - glad to find you on Instagram - my favorite social site!
I know - razors... just give me something that cuts... & not a $15.00 razor!

  23. Yesss to clean sheets and rainy nights. It's the little things! And definite boo to picking out ANYthing for my husband toiletry-wise. Parallel parking with people behind you is up there with public speaking as far as fear factor goes hah.

  24. Why is it necessary for guys to have a vibrating, battery-operated razor? Does that really work better? I just don't get it. It's definitely confusing. I have yet to send my husband on a tampon run, but it will be sweet payback I'm sure. :) haha. Can't wait to hear about your trip to Charlotte! SO fun :)

  26. Loving this! And glad you're successful at parallel parking...I don't do too terribly, but fitting my Yukon into a parallel spot tends to be more of a fail than a success! happy Tuesday!

  27. I loved reading this post because I can relate to SO many of your awkwards. Is it terrible that I'm glad I'm not the only one?! haha For instance, I avoid parallel parking at all costs and literally have not done it since my drivers test! I have a rattling bottle of Motrin in my purse and I am always paranoid that someone is going to think I'm a pill-popper. And, my windows on my car are totally broken too- like I literally can't open three out of the four.
Oh, and how was I not already following you on Instagram?! Fixed that! :)

    xo Always, Abby

  29. I avoid parallel parking at all costs! I'm so bad at it! I love hot baths and showers, equally :) And nothing compares to clean sheets! I have the lavender sleep mist from Bath & Body that tops off clean sheets....perfection!

  30. My allergies have been TERRIBLE lately. Makes me so sad... mostly because I look like Rudolf with my red nose!

    ReplyDelete
  31. oh i am GUILTY of leaving my keys in the lock and I think I even did it once overnight and my husband was away that night, yah... pregnancy brain at that time now just plain absentminded

    ReplyDelete
  32. p.s. for those allergies, get on essential oils, they really really HELP!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've been married for about two months now, and I was having some trouble logging into a system at work today so I called the helpdesk, and they asked me how to spell my last name. I could not remember!! I had to write it out and re-read it to them! I think I need a little more practice! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I loved this!! Also, I'm curled up with hot tea, Kleenex, puffy eyes & Rudolph nose thanks to darn allergies.

  35. You'll have to excuse me for all the comments but I'm getting caught up on some of my favorite blogs! Anyway...I've walked up a hundred times to our back door and my husbands keys are in still in it. I even walked up one day and the door was standing wide open with the keys in it! I thought surely he had been hacked. And I can NEVER understand the ladies at the nail salon and like you, always feel bad. And allergies blow especially with everything blooming here in SC! Loving those red shorts, girl!
