Future Home Inspiration

Along with deciding on moving back to Michigan, we have also decided we will be buying our first home!  This I am oh so excited for.  When my husband and I first moved in together 3 years ago, I moved into his place.  The apartment was already furnished so all of my stuff was sold or went into storage.  I was able to redecorate two rooms - our guest bath and the second bedroom turned office - but for the most part, everything in this apartment is "his" stuff.  Of course I like it but you can only imagine how excited I am to get my hands on a house that I can decorate entirely in my style!  We're hoping to find a bit of an older home with good bones that is in need of some TLC so we can really make things our own.  I've been thinking a lot about what I want this future home to look like and therefore blowing up my "Home Inspiration" board on Pinterest like it's my job!  Here is what I'm thinking via Pinterest...

+ Living Room
Nick and I have decided our current living room furniture will be perfect for a basement so we'll be replacing all of it.  You'll notice pretty quickly through my inspiration pictures that I'm a sucker for neutrals.  My ideal living room is a cozy one with plenty of windows that will allow for natural light. I'm thinking lots of seating... plush couches with pillows and throw blankets galore.  A fireplace is a must!

+ Master Bedroom
Simple, classic, neutral, comfy... I want a big fluffy bed that I'm going to need to be dragged out of every morning.  Our current bedroom furniture situation is a bit of a joke - we don't really have anything in there that will be joining us in Michigan besides our bed and possibly the bedside lamps.  I love white bedding (love that it can be bleached) and I want to add in lots of different textures throughout the room via pillows, throw blankets, curtains and rugs.

+ Kitchen
My dream kitchen is one that is open with lots of big windows and an abundance of work space and storage - everything I'm lacking right now!  I love marble ($$$) and white cabinetry... neutrals again, are you surprised?!  An island or wrap around countertop with seating is definitely a requirement.  I love all things cooking and baking so I know I'll be spending a lot of time in this room!  Also, how amazing are farmhouse sinks?

+ Bathrooms
Ideally, I'd like our bathrooms to also reflect the kitchen.  Similar color palette and countertops throughout.  Natural light with a window to open is a must have for our master.  A bathroom is also a fun and easy place to take risks that you might be scared to try in a large room.  I'd love to do a guest bathroom with a bright wallpaper or a coastal theme - those pebble floors below are so great!

+ Office
A minimum of three bedrooms is what we will be looking for.  A master bedroom, a guest bedroom and an office would be perfect.  The office is where I do all of my blogging so I'd love for it to be a fun room!  Pops of color everywhere, inspirational sayings, plenty of storage and french doors... now that is a place I could work in.

+ Outside Space
Having outdoor space is one of the things I am MOST looking forward to about moving.  Here in Chicago, we have a tiny balcony but it's not much.  I can't wait to have a yard and Nick and I both have big plans about what we want to do with it. Among them is a garden, pergola, campfire pit, deck... I could go on and on.  I'd also love a great front porch but that's not a deal breaker :)

+ Extra's
And if we were talking dream home here, I'd love to have a makeup vanity (this may have to happen no matter what), formal dining room and a sun room.

Now don't get me wrong - I realize this is going to be a "starter" home for us and this is NOT what my house is going to look like!  Pinterest and blogland is just such an amazing source of inspiration and makes me so excited to put my own spin on these pictures and create a little slice of heaven for ourselves in our new home :)

  7. congrats and yay for buying a home! i love love love pinterest, and we have such similar tastes. i am just starting to realise how to decorate things for myself and not for what i think other people / pinterest would like. its hard, especially because things cost money. i thought i would love white bedding too, but i must be doing something wrong, because no matter how much i wash and bleach, its never clean and i have a black cat ... so... lol. i love the look of them though, just recently decided not for us. i love neutral living rooms as well, actually i just love all neutrals! my house is slow coming, but its coming :) im so excited for you though! you'll have to keep us all updated on everything.

  8. I love it all! Neutrals are totally my style too (I had to force myself NOT to paint our entire house taupey gray, but even the couple of rooms that aren't are still a neutral-ish light blue gray). Buying a house is so exciting, can't wait to see what you come up with!

  9. Loving EVERYTHING! When I moved into Ian's place, I got the two downstairs bedrooms for my stuff-one is called the "princess palace" with my Z Gallerie couch and TV, and the 2nd bedroom has all my bedroom stuff in it (purple!). The rest of the house is essentially his...including a leather couch out in the living room. Don't worry-I changed the drapes to make it more fresh :) Good luck with the house hunt!
