House Hunt Round 2

Good morning!  Thank you for all the birthday wishes yesterday - it was a really great day!  I had the day off so I spent the morning relaxing before spending the rest of the day shopping downtown.  I got home just before Nick did to get ready for our dinner out.  We had plans to go to a restaurant in our neighborhood we've been wanting to try and figured we didn't need to make reservations on a Monday... and then we got up there and turns out they are closed on Mondays!  Bummer but we went to another place we've been before that has amazing food - Macello's.

We ate, drank, talked and laughed for almost two hours in an almost empty restaurant.  It was a really wonderful night.  And then on top of that, he totally spoiled me with gifts!  Turns out he has been listening/reading my blog wish list because he got me Kendra Scott earrings, Nordstrom bracelet and a pair of Converse!  Sadly the Nordstrom bracelet is a little big but everything else was a big hit :)  25 was very good to me and I'm a little sad to see it go but I'm ready for 26 and I know there are only good things ahead!

Now let's rewind a little bit to the weekend!  We had to be in Michigan to begin house hunting pretty early on Saturday morning so Friday night was a chill one.  We just made dinner, watched a couple episodes of OITNB and I headed to bed pretty early while Nick stayed up to the watch the Stanley Cup final!  Last hockey game of the year - how will the poor guy survive?!  ;)

Saturday morning, we left the city at 6:30am.  Not without a quick pit stop to Starbucks of course!  We met our realtor at the first of nine houses (or so we though) bright and early.  We were feeling good about the potential homes because we've finally decided what we really want.  We've decided we want a three year house - not a forever home.  The city we are moving to isn't our "dream town" by any means, the only reason we are moving there is because of Nick's work.  We've decided that we will settle in there for now and then review our options about where we want to be in a couple of years.  I feel much better about this plan!  The thought of buying a 4bd/3ba house was a little overwhelming - especially for a first home.

Anyways, we met up with our realtor and saw a bunch of places.  Unfortunately, two of them were under contract already (boo) and two were not available to see yet because they were so new to the market.  So it wasn't the most successful trip but we did find one house that we are really considering!  I think I am more so than Nick.  But it has everything we want (for now) and it's a great price.  We are going to make a pro/con list this week and hopefully come up with a decision.

 Our potential back yard?!

Porch love.  The rest of this house was not so great!

After the house hunt, we made the 40 minute drive to South Haven - a little beach town on the shores of Lake Michigan.  We had lunch outside, walked around downtown checking out the shops and enjoyed some fudge from Kilwin's!  It was a beautiful day out and the town was surprisingly quiet.

Around 4pm, we made the drive back to Chicago.  We were exhausted when we got home so we popped a frozen pizza in the oven and watched "What to Expect When You're Expecting" on Netflix.  It was just okay - there were a few laughs but overall kind of a dud for how many good actors were in the movie.

Sunday morning, Nick went golfing and I took care of a bunch of chores/errands that I didn't want to worry about on my birthday!  After he got home, we headed up to the Taste of Randolph Street.  It was pretty hot out and really crowded so we didn't stay to long.  These shish-ka-bob's were AMAZING.  The rest of the night was spent - where else - on the couch watching Netflix :)  Theme of the weekend!

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend, too!

  2. Fantastic b-day goodies! And that potential back yard? Whoo hoo! Go for it! You will never regret owning a house with a pool, it's the perfect back yard for summer parties! And since you're more north, down the road you can add solar to the pool so that it's more of a 3 seasons pool and you'll get a ton more use out of it ;-)

  28. I always secretly hope my husband reads my blog - but he pops in at such random times I swear he only reads it when I say I spent money haha! Good plan on the house hunt. We decided to nest into our current home with baby and start looking again come December. It's just too much with a baby coming in 60 days!
