Summer Bucket List - Chicago Style

After house hunting this weekend, the fact that we will be leaving Chicago in a few short months is really setting in.  Moving is met with mixed feelings because as excited as we are for this next chapter, we really do love it here and it will be really hard to leave.  That being said, we're determined to make our last summer in Chicago our best one yet.  Everything we've always said we were going to do here is going to be done and we're going to move in the fall with no regrets!  I thought I'd put together a list of the the top things to do this summer and you guys better hold me to it to do EVERYTHING! ;)

+ Ribfest
Coming up this weekend!  We're hoping to make it on Friday night or Saturday to sample some of the cities finest ribs.

+ Baseball Games
I'm hoping to go to at least one more Cubs and White Sox games this summer.  The Sox are playing the Tigers next week and I think we may be going on Monday night!

+ Navy Pier Fireworks
Navy Pier has fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday night in the summer.  It would be fun to ride our bikes down there, grab some ice cream on the pier and make a little date night out of it.

+ Taste of Chicago
The Taste is something that we went to the first two years we lived here but then haven't been since.  It's a huge outdoor food festival that happens every July.  The event is free but you buy tickets to eat/drink.  It's the perfect way to sample lots of Chicago restaurants and enjoy some live music.  Just beware - GO EARLY or the crowds make it not even worth attending (see picture below).

+ Visit Lake Geneva
Lake Geneva is a little town in Wisconsin just 80 miles north of Chicago.  Nick and I kind of stumbled upon it a few years ago when we were coming home from the Wisconsin Dells and fell in love.  It's a quaint, romantic small town that makes you feel like you've gone back in time.  We're hoping to head up there for the day for Nick's birthday in July!

+ Beach Volleyball Tournaments
If you haven't noticed by now, we love playing volleyball!  Our beach volleyball league starts tonight (!!) but we want to play in a couple tournaments this summer, too.

+ Air and Water Show
The A&W Show is an annual event in Chicago that we LOVE.  It's two days of sitting on the beach in awe of the top civilian and military aircrafts in the world performing stunts in the sky right over Lake Michigan.  The Navy's Blue Angels, the Air Forces Thunderbirds and the Army's Parachute Team Golden Knights are almost always in attendance - if you're in Chicago this weekend, you don't want to miss it.

+ Arlington Race Tracks
We've been trying to get to the Kentucky Derby for the last three years but things just keep coming up so we've had to settle for the Chicago suburbs horse tracks - Arlington Park.  We didn't get a chance to visit last summer due to wedding madness but it's fun to get dressed up, sip on some Mint Juleps and spend the day betting on horses!

+ Jazzin' at the Shedd
On Wednesday nights, the Shedd Aquarium hosts weekly outdoor jazz concerts.  Some of the best musicians in the city perform here and light food and drinks are also included.  This has been on our to-do list since we moved here and it still hasn't happened!  Double points if we're able to watch the Navy Pier fireworks while at the concert.

+ Movies in the Park
Many of the parks in Chicago offer a few "Movies in the Park" nights throughout the summer.  This is another one we've been meaning to do.  Our local park is showing Dirty Dancing at the end of June so I've made a note of it on our calendar.  Hopefully the weather cooperates!

+ Outdoor Concert
So the Zac Brown Band is coming to concert at Wrigley Field in September and I freaked out when I heard this for two reasons.  One, I love ZBB and two, I've been wanting to see a show at Wrigley.  However, all of my hopes and dreams were crushed when I found out that we have a wedding in Michigan that SAME night.  So sad.  An outdoor country concert is still happening for me this summer though - I believe Luke Bryan is coming in August so that may be the winner.

So much to do, so little time!  What are you looking forward to doing this summer?
Linking up with Khala & friends for Tuesday Tea

  13. Getting up to Wrigley is on my short list of things to do this summer too! It takes a little more pre-planning being that we're 2ish hours away, but I'm hopeful. I also tried to win ZBB tickets from the local radio station, but no luck... :( Looks like you have a very fun summer planned!

  14. A Chicago summer is always awesome! The Taste of Chicago is the reason why we didn't mini moon up there after our wedding because the entire city was sold out. We'd love to get up there but its just not going to happen until hockey season most likely as Keith would love to see the Blues play up there. So you'd better believe I have a list ready!

  26. Your bucket list for this summer is perfect! What a great way to say goodbye to Chicago - I wish I would have done half those things when I lived so close! Um, if you come up to Lake Geneva, we need to meet up. We're only 30-45 minutes from there, and I love it. My parents even had their honeymoon there back in the day. It's the cutest town!
