First Anniversary {Traditional} Gifts

You guys.  We had the most amazing time in Charleston.  I'm so sad to be back -- I miss the nightly wine and cheese hour, our cute hotel, the food (ohhh, the food) and even the heat.  I'm still processing the 300 something pictures I managed to take -- 250 of them being pictures of houses and flower boxes -- and hope to have a full recap up tomorrow!

This trip was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and while we considered it our main "gift" to each other, we still wanted to get each other a little surprise something.  We decided to follow the traditional first anniversary gift of paper and keep it on the cheaper side.  Nick got me the most adorable coffee table book of Charleston pictures -- love.  I was a failure and still haven't gotten in his gift in... it should be here soon though!

Here are some reasonably priced ideas to celebrate your first year of marriage!

+ Tickets
Tickets to a concert, musical, sports event, anything!  Or you can go all out like Nick and I wanted to do (hey, you only get one first anniversary!) and go for airplane tickets :)  I'm kicking myself now for not saving our plane tickets and other tidbits from this past weekend so I could frame them in a shadow box like this.  Adorable.

+ Art Prints
There are sooo many amazing art prints on Etsy -- that you can even customize!  Since we're wrapped up in all things regarding moving, this custom house portrait is my absolute favorite.  Some other great customized ideas are a wedding portrait painting, wedding vow/first dance song/poem print and a bouquet portrait.

+ Notebook
Leather notebook/journals are always nice to have, bonus points for getting it monogrammed.  There are also fun ideas other than just a blank book.  This One Line A Day book would be such a sweet way to record little moments from each day of your marriage.

+ Calendar/Photo Book
Shutterfly is my go to for this kind of thing.  For really reasonable prices, you can make a book full of pictures of your wedding, honeymoon or memories from the past year.  I made a wedding photo book for our parents for Christmas and we also have a calendar of wedding/honeymoon pictures that hangs in our kitchen.  Both are super great quality and I know there are a lot more Shutterfly orders in my future!

Nick's gift is included in this line up but I don't want to give it away in case he's reading ;)  What did you do/are planning to do for your significant other to celebrate your first anniversary?

  1. Theo and I didn't really go traditional, unless you count giving each other cards. He got me a purse and got I him a wallet. It was more what we wanted at the time. I'm going to try to do more for our second year which is cotton. Glad you had a great time here in Charleston! It's a neat city! And you survived the heat which is miserable!!

  5. These are fabulous ideas! I suppose our first-year anniversary gift is the same as you guys - airplane tickets - but we still want to do something small for each other, too. Sometimes it's hard to think outside of the box when it comes to paper - this definitely helps!

  7. LOVE this post, such great ideas. Can't wait to hear more about your trip!

I mentinoed it to my husband for our anniversary in Sept {!!!!!} and he came up with a pretty sweet idea. We have a favorite artist, so he thought buying another print from him together, would be a great gift and I agreed. I did tell him, I still expected a mushy card though :)!

  17. Great ideas! I like the Shutterfly book. My dad has made them for my grandma, and he also made a wedding guest book for us on it. I didn't get Chris anything for our first anniversary other than a card. So bad I know! He had our Match.com profiles professionally framed and that was his gift to me. We also went on a weekend getaway to Kohler, WI. Glad that you enjoyed Charleston too, my in-laws are moving an hour from there. :-)

  33. I am in serious L-O-V-E with those shadow boxes! I keep all our travel mementos (umm...somewhere...I think...) but never knew what to do with them. How perfect! I've been wanting a custom house portrait (or maybe 4 since we're on our 4th place together...). Ben bought me/us that same line-a-day journal for Valentine's Day but we've only written in it maybe 10 times, oops!
