100 Summer Miles

I hate working out.  I'd rather do just about anything than "go to the gym."  Give me a sport to play and I'll go at it for hours, every single day.  But working out just to exercise?  It's never been my idea of fun and I've got a rarely used gym membership to prove it.

I wish I could play volleyball or soccer or tennis everyday.  And I also wish I could eat dessert at every meal... so, something has to give.  I need to figure out a way to get some sort of exercise in so that I can continue to eat my beloved brownies/cake/ice cream and not gain 100 pounds.  Because I'm just not the same person if I don't get my chocolate fix.

Enter in the 100 Summer Miles challenge.  I recently came across two bloggers summer workout goal:  100 miles by the end of summer, September 21st.  Kendwy at Mind of Kiwi and Veronica at Vero Says are challenging themselves and us to run/walk/job/bike/whatever it takes to get in 100 miles.  I've always enjoyed walking but there was nothing fueling me to get out there and do it.  Add in some competition and we've got a whole different story!

Since we're already into August, I have to get in at least 2 miles each day to reach the goal by September 21st.  This is where the challenge/competition comes in.  I now have something to hold myself accountable to and I'm challenging myself to not slack off.  So far so good!  I started last Thursday and each day I've gotten in between 1.7 and 2.5 miles.  Only on Sunday did I not do anything because I was at work all day.

I wanted to share this with you all in case you're interested in joining along!  I'm using the app "Map My Run" each day and I will say that cute workout clothes from the Nordstrom Sale are helping fuel my motivation ;)  Still waiting on these babies to arrive and then I will be one happy camper!

Even more obsessed with these shoes

Anyway, hold me accountable for this PLEASE!!  I know life is about to get crazy with moving so it will be good for me to take some time each day to get in a walk and clear my head.  And then have dessert each night before bed ;)  Hope you'll join along with us!

  4. You got this!! I should do this too! I hate running but when I force myself to do it I feel so good afterwards. I usually go for classes because I work harder when other people are around me and get competitive HA. I totally need to do this and see if I can! Who doesn't love an awesome challenge?!

  8. I love this challenge! This winter a group of runners started 100 miles/month--which I did not do. Running? Outside? In winter? No bueno! But this challenge sounds awesome! I can't wait to see you make it! I am definitely motivated by some competitiveness when it comes to exercise! ;)

  21. I'm absolutely the same way exercising... I am competitive, and can play sports for hours, but I just can't get into the gym for the sake of exercising - especially running!

  22. It's nice you live in the city too because you can rack up miles without even really trying! I mean, that walk to the beach was always a far one for me! Make sure you check out Quest bars and pop those babies in the oven for about 4-5 minutes. Always a tasty dessert!
