Wednesday Confessional

It's Wednesday and that means it's time to confess!  I like to plan my blog schedule out about a week in advance so last Monday when I decided I was going to write this post, I started a draft and have been adding to it for the last 9 days... so I apologize in advance for the length!  Guess I just have a lot to get off my chest ;)

+ We're down to 17 days til the move now and I've yet to actually pack anything.  My husband noted last night that I'm doing a lot of organizing and moving things around... but nothing is going into boxes.  It's more like I'm "pretending" to pack -- and I actually agree with him.  Must.start.packing.

#hotmess

+ I have to make my bed every single day.  In fact, my entire day feels thrown off if I leave my bed a mess.. and don't even mention getting into an unmade bed at night.  It just feels wrong to me.  I think this is my OCD side coming out.

Somethin' like that

+ I'm seriously sad about all of the amazing shopping I'm leaving behind here in Chicago.  Notably, Nordstrom and Home Goods.  I won't have either of these stores in my new town and this makes me so sad.  Nordstrom at least has free shipping... but Home Goods... how will I decorate my house without it?!

+ Yesterday I had the day off and I watched 5 episodes of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.  In a row.  It was a gray and dreary day -- a high of only 68! -- and I just couldn't drag myself off the couch.  I probably should have been packing but ehhh, I'll start that today.

+ I've been trying to eat out of our pantry as much as possible so we don't have to move very much food.  And by "pantry", I mean our one cupboard we have for food storage.  Ahh, apartment living.  But anyway, this has resulted in some seriously strange dinners.  One night we had grilled cheese, taquito's, hash browns, and canned beans.  The plus side of these random meals is that my weekly grocery bill has been cut in half!

+ It may be August... but I can't help thinking ahead to Christmas.  It's so bad but I just cannot wait to decorate the new house for the holidays!  It makes me giddy just thinking about it.  I've already been wondering where I'll put my tree (or trees? Maybe I'll have two?) and how we can decorate the outside of the house.  Seriously can't wait.

Be still my heart

+ I'm a terrible wife.  Nick's anniversary gift STILL hasn't arrived!  It should be here this week... should being the key word.

+ You may have heard that Detroit was pretty much underwater thanks to rain this past Monday.  I really feel for the people with flooded homes and damaged property but other people can just be so dramatic.  I couldn't even get on Facebook after a while because all I was doing was rolling my eyes at posts from some of my Detroiter friends.  It took you three hours to get home from work in traffic?  Welcome to Friday rush hour in Chicago!

Ahhh... that felt good.  What do you have to confess today?!
Thanks to Kathy at Vodka and Soda for hosting!

  1. So many boxes! Hopefully all your organizing/moving things around now will just mean when you do actually start putting stuff into boxes it will be that much easier to unpack! Sometimes lazy days on the couch are the best, and you can always just say you were resting up to pack ;)

  2. No Home Goods?! That would be good for my wallet, but I do love my Home Goods trips! And It's so hard to pack things away. When I was moving, my thought was always "Well I might need that." or "I don't want that to look empty" haha. Pretty soon you'll be in your brand new home with two Christmas trees! Can't wait to see! xo

  3. Love RHBH marathons, but the 2 new girls need to go... not a fan of Joyce or Carlton...

  4. I have to make my bed everyday too. I've finally trained my husband to make the bed, when I leave before him. It drives me nuts to have a messy bed.

OH EM GEE, it's like 19 fridays until Christmas! weeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  5. Ah, the joys of moving. I have to say though, it's better to be organized before you put stuff in boxes so it is easier to unpack! I think you're on the right track. :) We don't have a Home Goods nearby either ... it seriously depresses me sometimes.

  6. We are eating so many random meals right now trying to use up all of our frozen and canned foods! I'm also totally OCD about bed making! It just makes such a difference when the bed is made! How far will the nearest Home Goods be from you??

  7. Ohhh Christmas! I'm silently weeping that we have to spend yet another in our tiny apartment. Yay for you and your house! It's going to be great... and you'll enjoy having more storage for food than 1 cabinet. That's what we have, too. I just have to keep telling myself that it's just for a time and that we will have a house soon. :P

    17 days! AHH!

  8. NO HOME GOODS!!?? I'm sorry. Is there a TJ Maxx or Marshalls by you? RHOBH is my favorite, I can't wait for it to start up again! Also, packing is no fun - I don't blame you for taking your time haha.

  10. Sometimes I think about moving back to our hometown, but then I realize there would be no Target and no shopping, so I reconsider! lol. That stinks that there's no HomeGoods! Good luck packing lady!

  11. Oh the BH Housewives!! I only watch that one and the OC. Love them. I'm the same way about making the bed. My day isn't complete if I haven't made the bed, emptied the dishwasher, and folded some laundry. Good luck packing, and maybe you can find something similar to HomeGoods??

  12. LOL at the overly dramatic people on fb! Haha can't wait for the holidays as well, although I'll miss working in shorts haha

  13. I have to make my bed every. single. day. It feels dirty to get into an unmade bed. Think I may be a bit OCD too:) As you're leaving your Home Goods, we are just getting one. And though it makes my heart happy, it makes my hubby scared. Our budget is definitely going to take a hit as soon as that place opens!

  14. 17 days!! yay! oh having a house is so much fun at christmas, i'm so excited for you!
what will you do without homegoods? you will need to make a day trip to do a ton of shopping and then go back home.
lol i'm refusing to go shopping until the weekend so our pantry is pretty bare as well.. grilled cheese sounds like the perfect dinner!

  15. When we were house hunting, I would always consider where a potential Christmas tree would go! Very important!

  16. Ugh packing sucks! I've always wanted to try out a Home Goods, we don't have any here either, so I feel ya! Nothing wrong with a Real Housewives marathon :)

  17. I would agree, I have to make my bed too! I can't do anything the rest of the day if its not made - I also have the rule the last one out of the bed has to make it, so Keith has to contribute on the weekends!

  18. Haha just moving stuff around - I would be doing the same thing and the housewives marathon sounds way more thrilling than packing!! I sort of love eating what we have in the pantry for that exact reason - cutting the grocery bill in half!! Hope you have a great day!

  19. Oh gosh I feel you under packing. I work so much better under pressure. It's just so hard to organize your things when they just have to be thrown into boxes! Ever since I moved in with Ian I never go back upstairs to the bedroom, so I never make it. That would have KILLED me at my last apartment (always made the bed) but since I literally only go up there to sleep, it's outta sight outta mind.

  20. OMG 68 degrees!?! I'd be freezing! It's still around 90 here when I get off work every day! But yes to watching a RHOBV marathon! :) And that flooding is crazy... wow. I can't even imagine!!

  21. A day of not moving from the couch and watching RHW of anything sounds amazing! I am also looking forward to fall and Christmas!! I just love Christmas decor in the house... makes it feel so cozy! No Nords or Home Goods?! Oh no! We just got a Nordstrom Rack here in Columbus and I am trying my best to stay away... Bad for my wallet!

  22. Oh packing is the worst! I ended up giving away so much stuff when I moved up here and I still have crap I don't use! I would give anything for a Bravo marathon day on the couch right now!

  23. ugh moving packing its all the worst. you deserve to indluge yourself in any way you please, even if its binging on reality tv

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am the same way. I MUST make my bed in the morning (I blame it on my mom for always making me do it when I was young) Good luck with all the packing and I admit there are times where I wish I could just sit on the couch and binge watch reality tv shows....there....I said it! hehe

  25. YAY for moving and Christmas! Once you start a little packing, it will all fall into place and you will just knock it out! I would choose housewives over that too thought! I love looking forward to Christmas and decorating and cooking and baking and staying home. It is just the best!

  26. Hahah these are great!
We're starting the moving process to our new place as well...and it sucks! I hate packing! I wish I was rich so I could spend the money on having someone else pack up all of our stuff and move it.

GIRL, how are you going to survive without Nordstrom right next to you?!?! But you're right, they do have free shipping! ;)

A high of 68?!?! I keep PRAYING for that weather here in So Cal. Want to switch? It's been in the 80's with 70% humidity...aka it's Florida weather here. YUCK.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just moved and I totally waited until the end to actually pack. WHO wants to do that?! P.S. I have the same grey Ikea rug :)

  28. we've had lots of flooding in some parts of my city as well; like legit homes flooded and ramps etc. what's with this crazy weather?

    thanks for linking up!

  29. Gah I keep saying "we're going to only eat dinners from what we have" and then still go to the grocery 2 times a week. I need to take your motivation and stick with beans/taquitos/whatever we have hah. Good luck with packing. I think wine would be the PERFECT motivator :)

  30. no no no no no AND no on Christmas thoughts. NO!!!!!!

You sound like my husband. He would wait till the morning OF moving to start packing.
I was sad when we moved to the country & we have nothing. I mean nothing. Our town has a gas station with a pitiful little mini mart ... you adjust.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow that flooding looks ridic but I must admit coming from Johannesburg we get ridiculous amounts of traffic so I'm not very sympathetic about traffic! Good luck with the moving, I definitely leave things to pack under pressure lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. LOL pretend packing.... just start putting things into boxes! :) What helped me when I moved was making a list of everything I put into that box. I am excited for you that you are finally moving into that house you have been talking about so much! :)

  34. I make my bed every morning too. And despise packing- especially the kitchen stuff!

  35. That's one of the best things about having your own house - decorating for all the holidays! I remember when we were waiting to move into our house, I kept thinking about how I would decorate for Christmas too! And it was April! haha So keep thinking about how much fun that will be when you have to spend all this time packing everything up ;) -Jess

  39. I can confirm that binge-watching Real Housewives is proper protocol for when you don't feel like packing ;)
