Weekending: Home Inspection

Warning:  I'm about to be that obnoxiously happy person on Monday morning.  Beware.

It's Monday... and for once, I can't stop smiling.  It was a great weekend!  We had our home inspection done and it went FABULOUSLY!  I was so worried -- not about anything specific but you just never know what could turn up.  And the way our house hunting journey was going... let's just say I did not want to start back over again!

On Saturday, our alarms went off at the ungodly hour of 5am. Getting up that early on a weekend should be illegal.  But we had to be at the new house by 9am so we were on the road at 5:45am -- coffee in hand.  Michigan, here we come!

Nick's parents met us at the house because his dad wanted to check out the place, too so it was fun to show them around.  And it was fun for us because we had honestly forgotten about what the house really looked like.  Seeing 10+ houses in one day will do that to you!

Luckily the house was even better than we remembered and I loved having three hours to just hang out there.  Our inspector was great and everything went so smoothly.  A few minor issues were found -- which was to be expected -- and we are currently in talks with the owners as to who will pay for those.  Hopefully not us but if we have to, it won't be a deal breaker.  I sure hope the owners aren't reading this!  ;)

All this to say, it looks like this place really is going to be ours!  We are just so excited.  I'm going to hold off on the pictures until we're actually in it but do want to share some details!  It's a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath colonial-style house in great condition.  Kitchen aside, nothing needs to be done upon moving in other than paint which is so nice.  Anything we add to the house will just be extra upgrades.  As for the kitchen, it's all functional right now so that's good but it needs a face lift.  We are hoping to redo the entire thing come spring.

My favorite part of the house might be the fact that it's in the cutest neighborhood.  Think big tall trees, shaded lots, all different style homes -- it's going to be the most beautiful place come fall!  Our inspector told us our new 'hood is particularly known for its garage sales which made me super excited!  We also met our next door neighbors who (believe it or not) were outside hosting a garage sale that morning.  They are a couple about our parents ages that have kids our age.  They invited us over for wine and a bonfire when we get all settled... yes please!

The rest of the weekend wasn't full of much excitement.  We got back to Chicago in the early afternoon and went for a long walk, then Nick had a hockey game and later we watched Wolf of Wall Street.  I know, we're probably the last people in the world to see it!  I thought it was good but a tad long (kind of like this post? haha).  Side note:  why did no one tell me Coach Taylor was in this movie?  I would have seen it at the theaters had I known that ;)

And on Sunday I worked a nice 11 hour shift.  The highlight of the day was putting in my two weeks notice!  August 14th is my last day on the job.  I'll be sad to leave but am definitely ready for this new adventure :)

Hope you all had wonderful weekends, too!  Oh, and will anyone else be watching Bachelor in Paradise tonight?  I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I'm looking forward to it!

Linking up with Leeann, Carly and Biana

  38. Yayyy! Congrats Katie!! I'm so excited for y'all and glad that the inspection went well! Ours was not as pretty :( but we're working out details now. Honestly though...our buyers are being VERY picky about stuff they shouldn't be. The option period has extended but I really really hope it goes through! I'm praying for the rest of your process! I know it's a bunch of crazy but exciting!

  49. Hello everyone. Has anybody here used home energy audit services? Actually, one of my friends has suggested me to hire Hermosa Beach real estate inspection services to get energy audit also. Any suggestion?
