Why I'm Not Job Searching

Confession posts are some of my favorites mainly because they show that we don't all lead perfect lives.  We craft these blogs out of the highlights of our lives.. the vacations we take, the recipes that turned out perfectly, the fabulous outfit we put together.  And I love to read about all of those things -- I really do -- but sometimes it's nice to know that we all have the occasional bad hair day, burnt dinner or ridiculous argument with our husbands.  It's nice to know we're all human.

Here's my random assortment of things I'm 'fessing up today...

Paint colors are taking. over. my. life.  I've always considered myself a decisive person.. I can make pretty quick decisions and don't really doubt myself.. but choosing paint colors is kicking my butt.  As my husband keeps pointing out (because he's annoyed of me), painting isn't permanent so if I don't like something I can just re-do it.  And the rational side of my brain knows that, but the irrational side needs the perfect color the very first time!

Painting is the main reason I haven't done a single ounce of job searching.  I can't even squeeze anything else into my brain because I'm too busy thinking "texas leather or sparrow or carrington beige... maybe I should use Valspar instead... eggshell or satin... what about the trim?"  It hurts my brain.  First world problems.

And job searching just sucks, so there's that.

Sometimes I do think I should just get a job so I can hire a cleaning service because cleaning this house is NO JOKE! Coming from my little apartment -- that I could clean in an hour and a half, max-- I should of known I was in for a rude awakening.  If anyone has any tips on keeping on top of cleaning a house, I'd love to hear them!

We have our first volleyball game this Sunday night and I'm a little nervous.  Nick and I were randomly placed on a team... on a competitive 4's team.  We played recreational 6's in Chicago so this is going to be a bit more intense, ha.  Our teammates also coach volleyball so talk about intimidating!  We'll see how it goes.  Hopefully I don't come home with a broken nose or something.

Have any of you seen the show Jersey Belle on Bravo?  The finale was this week and I'm so sad it's over.  I really enjoyed the show and it was a nice change of pace that the main characters were a real group of friends, unlike the Housewives shows.  Watching Jersey Belle made me realize that the Housewives cattiness is getting a little old.  Let's see some more shows on real women with real friendships!

I am so beyond overdue for a haircut/color and eyebrows but I just have no idea where to go here in Michigan.  Trying to find new people that you trust to take care of these important life matters is hard.  I'm thinking about going to the Benefit eyebrow counter at Ulta.. anyone tried these before?

We are still dealing with our water problems (ugh) and yesterday, we had the city over to grab another test sample.  The old homeowners are footing the bill on all of this since it wasn't resolved before we closed (which is nice) and yesterday, the husband wanted to be there for it.  Talk about awkward having the previous owners over!  Luckily, he was super nice and even joked about us painting over their "ugly" wall colors, haha.

Sorry that was so long but it's nice to get it all off my chest!  Happy hump day :)
Thanks to Kathy at Vodka and Soda for hosting.

  1. Picking a paint color is tough. They have WAY too many options... and I'm a really indecisive person. LOL! I'm not a fan of the paint color I ended up going with butttttt it's been there for 4 years now so I'm not changing it! I've never tried the Benefit bar but I've heard they're good! It's worth a shot!

  2. I am loving Jersey Belle and agree it's so refreshing seeing all these women actually getting along with normal "real" problems instead of made up ones for the show!! Your volleyball league sounds intense - LOL - I'm sure it will be a blast though!!! I can't even imagine trying to pick out one paint color, let alone for an entire house!!

  3. Sad I didn't see Jersey Belle - sounds like it was a good show.
Paint picking is hard, but it's also not that expensive to redo if you don't like the color.
Hope the water situation gets fixed soon!!

  4. choosing paint colors is the worst. i can never make a decision and i can never tell if it would actually look good in a room....luckily, my husband loves that shit so i leave it all up to him :D

    thanks for linking up!

  5. You're going to rock it out with your volleyball team. I don't know what 4s and 6s mean, but I know you're awesome and will totally be up to the challenge :)!

Paint, I get it. You can always change it, but painting is a hassle so you want to only do it once. Trust your gut, I'm sure you have one you keep going back to, so trust it, do it and love it!

I don't have a big house, just an apartment, but I've read lists where you do something everyday, so it's not that big of a process. Bathrooms one day, vacumming another, kitchen another, sounds simple enough, right?!? ;)

I haven't seen Jersey Belle, but I'm intrigued now.

  6. I LOVE Jersey Belle! I hope they renew it! I feel like they never renew the non-Housewives shows that I like. I think taking your time and getting settled and then finding a job is a great way to go. You would be SO overwhelmed and stressed on top of everything else you have going on. It took me a full month to choose a paint color. It was apparently the biggest decision of my life, but someone told me to paint an entire wall once (or most of it) and it makes the decision so much easier! Go with eggshell on your walls and semi-gloss on doors, trim, windows!

  7. So funny that you can usually make decisions easily but are struggling with paint, since in the grand scheme of things, it's pretty easy to fix it if you do make the wrong decision. I'm indecisive about pretty much everything but I'm really trying to work on it. There are very few decisions that really would mean the end of the world if I made the wrong one.
I was thinking the same thing about Housewives lately! Earlier this summer I was all caught up on new episodes and needed something to binge watch so I went back and rewatched the first few seasons of OC and the difference was like night and day! Then when I went to catch up new episodes again the cattiness and fakeness seemed even more over the top than usual and I was like no thanks!

  8. Isn't it amazing how many shades and varieties there are when selecting paint?? It is overwhelming to pick out the perfect neutral. I'm glad you are getting your water issue fixed and that you aren't having to foot the bill. You sure have a lot going on! Give yourself a break and enjoy this settling in phase of your life. A job will come, responsibilities will follow so enjoy these days :) Easier said that done - haha. Good luck finding new people you trust for your beauty necessities. I think that's one of the hardest things about moving to a new city. I've yet to tackle this one and even contemplating asking my hubby to give my hair a trim so I could further avoid the hair salon search. Lame.

  9. I can see how paint colors would be hard to choose-- even though you can always repaint, it's not like it's a quick and easy process! I'm sure whatever colors and finishes you end up with will look amazing in your space though! As much as I love trashy reality TV sometimes, I often wonder why there aren't more shows focusing on positivity or things that are slightly more uplifting maybe?

  10. I am right on board with you with the Housewives. I was trying to watch RHONJ now that Dina was back, but it's so annoying. I feel myself getting so stressed out and it's not worth it!

Job searching is the worst, but once everything is settled with the house, you'll be in a better head space for it, and it'll be easy!

  11. Home repairs are about to take over my life... I get it! And job searching is so tough. I never know where to look for what I'm interested in!!

  12. you can conquer the paint chips!!!!

  13. job hunting DOES suck. take a break from it as long as you can. I watch Jersey Belle and I love it! You are right, it's totally refreshing to see a group of girls that are actually REAL friends and not just forced to hang out together for the cameras. im so over grown women fighting ALL the time! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  14. Sorry you're still dealing with the water situation.. that's no fun! And if y'all are okay on one income, take time to get things together before you add another stressor in your life. We have the rest of our lives to work right?!?! xo

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hear us on making paint decisions! So tough! We are about repaint our bathroom as we speak. Also, I didn't look for a job after one of our moves since the holidays were coming up and I wanted a few weeks to go home and be with family, ha! You take your sweet time! Or just have some babies! ;-)

  16. Can't wait to see what paints you choose! I have a hard enough time cleaning my apartment...I can't imagine anything bigger! ha! Hope you have a great Wednesday! xo

  17. We've painted 75% of the house in 5 months and have paint up the ass here! Also, yes painting CAN be changed but remind your husband how annoying it would be if you changed your mind a year down the road and then HE will have to repaint it;) that's what I keep telling Jerek at least! Come over to my woods and get your hair done with my hairdresser! We can grab Starbucks and go to Ulta after for your brows. Okay that was really pushy, I'll stop now >_<

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have done the benefit counter before. They are good, just a little pushy. I think it is like 22 dollars, but maybe Ulta will have some coupons online? and HELL YES to a cleaning lady. I got a raise at my job and the first thing I asked for is a cleaning lady lol

  19. I was so sad to see Jersey Belle end. Best show I've seen on Bravo in a long time!

  20. I couldn't agree with you more on showing the un-perfect side of our lives... we are all human and we all have daily struggles that we usually don't portray on here. Sometimes it's good to let it all out gurlie!

As far as cleaning... I can totally relate. We went from a tiny 2 bed/1bath apartment to a two story 5 bed/4 bath house. We take turns with different chores... I usually clean the sinks and toilets while he scrubs the shower/tub... he vacuums... I dust.. he sweeps/mops.. I clean the counters and put everything away. I would love to hire a cleaning lady to come in and give a nice scrub down of the nitty gritty once in a while though. That would be fantastic!

One of my friends goes to the Ulta eyebrow bar, she said it's pricier than going to a nail spa but they do her eyebrows the best.

Good luck with your first volleyball game! Can't wait to hear how it went :-D

  21. the paint decisions. i feel you. ive seen a color gray that you THINK is gray but under kitchen light it really turns blue. talk about frustrating. and yes, you can definitely repaint - but ain't nobody got time for that!

for hair stylists - i moved to charlotte two years ago and knew like two people. so i just went on reccomendations of stylists that the friends i made went to. it worked! now i love my lady :)

  22. I totally understand you wanting to get the perfect paint color the first time. I hate painting, so I'm pretty sure once I painted I wouldn't want to do it again! Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bless your heart! I'm sure that's enough work!!! I did all the painting four years ago, and it was a nightmare!

  24. Boo to the water not fixed yet! I've seen (and stupidly not utilized) a weekly chart floating around online where each day of the week you focus on one task to keep the house clean and not overwhelm you all at once (like Saturday when you can be painting, obvi!) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I TOTALLY feel you on paint colors! But sadly, it's one of those things I do wayyyy too often because of my house as well as my job! Let me know what you're struggling with and I'd love to try and help! ;)

I've caught Jersey Belle a couple times at the gym but haven't really paid attention. I'm glad it's a little more 'real', I'll have to catch up on it sometime!

  26. I love Jersey Belle and am so sad it's over too!! I understand your paint problem. They offer WAY TOO MANY choices. Seriously. I hated that part. Don't stress about the job search. Something will pop up soon and it's important and exciting that you get this time to work on your house :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nothing wrong with waiting until you are ready to job search, or just stay home :) How many seasons of Jersey Belle have there been? I did watch but you aren't the first person I've heard say how good and real it is, I'm wishing I would have watched!

  28. I personally like Carrington beige. And also it's completely irrelevant that I've never actually seen the color. Lol.

  29. I feel ya on trying to find a new hair/brow person - I've been in my new place for 5 months and haven't had a haircut in that long - I have given in to letting the nail shop ladies wax my brows!!! Yikes!!

  30. my house is much smaller than yours, but damn cleaning a house is hard! normally i leave everything but dishes and do a big clean on sundays, but that gets old fast - there are all sorts of pinterest schedules to do something small each day - i tried that for about a month and it was actually really brilliant. one room a day, very smart.
also painting really effing sucks. its not permanent but its annoying and hard and not free so yeah i dont want to do it again! lol. i dont want to live with a bad colour. our living room was so hard to paint, the ceilings are so high and i never - like EVER - want to do it again. our bedroom is small and normal, i hate the colour and want to paint but i just can't be bothered, its exhausting searching for a colour, its exhausting painting. no thank you.

  31. OMG I don't know how to even begin to pick paint colors! As for hair/eyebrow people I'll email you all of the contacts I have. I had a friend go to the Benefit counter at Ulta and she did NOT have a good experience at the one on Westnedge. Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I stay on top of cleaning by basically doing a little bit every day after work. So on my days off, I have nothing to do! Also, if you don't have a dishwashing machine, get in the habit of washing dishes after they are used. Then they don't pile up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've got no less than 75 paint colors, narrowed down from a zillion... so I feel you. My hubs keeps saying the same thing, but I know I don't have time!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. So glad I'm not the only one with painting woes! Honestly the indecision just gets worse when you're preggers! haha Just remember that even if you don't like it you can always change it down the road :) Good luck with the job search.. looking for jobs and applying is like a job in itself. So much work and it can be frustrating. When I was looking for a job, I made a reasonable goal of applying to at least one job a day that way it didn't get too overwhelming. Hope that helps!

  35. I have been wanting to replace our flooring and start painting, but all of the colors and shades makes my head spin. I have no idea how you are suppose to choose just one ha ha. It doesn't help that I am SO indecisive.

  36. Ulta's brow bar is awesome... I bet you'll like it there! The only problem is that whenever I go into Ulta, I end up doing way more than just getting my brows done haha.. I end up spending too much money!

  37. Confession posts are my favorite too girl! I can't even imagine keeping a house clean.....I feel like I'm constantly cleaning my tiny little condo and it's never ending. I'm sure you have exhausted the pinterest resources for paint colors right?

  38. Love these posts! I'm probably due for one soon. Never watched Jersey Belle but sorry I missed it! And check pinterest on the cleaning thing-they give you a daily schedule on what to clean so you don't have to do it all at once! #firstworldproblems

  40. I'm a master paint color chooser. My Rooomie brought me along because she is planning on painting after I leave and we were able to pick out colors in about 15 minutes.

I wish I had something to distract me from the job hunting. Can I pick out your paint? lol.

  45. omg! choosing paint colors IS hard!!!! It took me FOREVER to pick a nursery color for my daughter's room http://happilyevermock.blogspot.com/2014/08/nurseryfinally.html
It was seriously between 2 almost identical colors too!!! lol

  46. LOVE Jersey Belle! I love that they don't fight and if they do, they aren't mean to each other. I hope they pick it up for a second season!

  47. I can't even begin to wrap my head around the whole paint-color issue bc just THINKING about it stresses me out...but I am sure your choices will be perfect and it will look fabulous in the end! Can't wait to see it! Finding a new hair stylist is always a challenge (and I think brows are even harder!)....good luck, girl!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love Jersey Belle too - and I just can't watch the Housewives anymore... They are so fake to me, and I feel like it's not good for my mood anymore lol

  49. You guys are still having water problems??? Oh my gosh, what a bummer! I hope you get all of that stuff resolved asap! We're dealing with plumbing problems ourselves. It's so annoying!

What paint color family are you leaning towards? Creams, grays...? If you're looking for grays, I can give you a few names of the ones I've used/really like. But they're Dunn-Edwards....not sure if that's a big deal or not.

And can I just say that life is completely sad without cable & dvr?!?! I don't want to have to pay for Hulu to watch all of my shows :(

  50. I actually have a confessions post in my que waiting for next week. I'm with you! It's nice to have that reminder that we're all human! Love this girlfriend.
