Five on Friday 10/10

It's FRIDAY!  For some reason, this has been a really, really long week.  I haven't felt the greatest, a couple of our home projects are stalled and I am just not feeling the cold weather.  And it's not even cold yet, it's been getting to 60 degrees every day so I'm in for a real rude awakening soon!

But it's Friday and I'm feeling much better, we're going to get a lot done on the house over the next couple of days and it's supposed to be sunny ALL weekend long.  The little things!

Here's what we've been up to this week...

2015 Planner
I'm trying to decide what planner I want for 2015, although I still can't wrap my head around the fact that it's almost 2015!  I've been using an Erin Condren planner this year and haven't been all that impressed -- you can find my honest review here.  I'm leaning towards a Whitney English Day Planner or a Kate Spade 17 Month Agenda (the polka dots!). Anyone have advice on which one to go with?

Shrimp Saganaki
This plate of deliciousness is Biana's Shrimp Saganaki!  We made it (and devoured it) on Wednesday night and it was sooo so so good.  Check out the recipe here.  This one has definitely been added to our dinner rotation -- thanks, Biana!

Fall Makeup
A few simple makeup switch-a-roos you can make to transition from a summer look into a fall look.  I'm on the hunt for the perfect wine/burgundy colored lipstick... one that makes me look classy, not like a vampire.  Easier said than done.

New Couch
AHHHH, you guys, we got a new couch and I am in l-o-v-e!  I came across the Kendall Sofa at World Market (which is my new favorite store) and I had to have it for our fireplace room.  We're picking it up this weekend and I can't wait to start building the rest of the room around it!

Inspiration
Because even if you have a blah week, every day really is a good day.  Happy Friday, my friends!

  1. I'm sorry it's already getting so chilly up there, you know you always have a place to stay in warm sunny FL ;-)

And I vote for the Whitney English planner, it's fabulous! Happy Friday!

  2. I'm in the same boat with the planner! I still couldn't decide during the last Whitney English opening but I think I might finally bite the bullet on the black and white stripe this go around. The way the pages are set up is most conducive to me...I think. That's what I thought about my EC planner, and even though it's a great planner, it's not perfect so I want to try something else.

  3. I didn't care for the Erin Condren one myself... my favorite? The My Agenda ... look it up - its AWESOME. I've used it 3 years in a row & believe me, I've tried them all. I think its under Mom Agenda but they have a calendar under My Agenda that is for anyone... its fantastic!

  4. I'm with you on the cold weather.... rude awakening indeed! It could easily snow this month (it does every year!) and I kind of want to cry when thinking about that, ha!
Biana always shares the BEST recipes! That looks amazing!
Hope this weekend is amazing, you deserve it!!

  5. I have the KS agenda (the smaller one not the huge one) and it's just perfect - I really like the EC but I can't justify the price yet - I also don't think I'm busy enough to justify it LOL!! I'm so happy you guys liked the recipe - it's on heavy rotation at our house too!! Stay warm love and hope you have a great weekend!!

  6. I have to make that recipe soon! Lovebug I am so sorry about the weather but you can always come south when it gets to be too much (fingers crossed I actually have an apartment by then)! Hope you feel better this weekend and I can't wait to see pics of the new couch!

  8. I have been very happy with my Kate Spade planner, so that's about the only advice/opinion I can give you about that! It looks like Biana's shrimp saganaki is a hit - I will have to try it out soon! Um, that couch is swoon-worthy. Is it comfortable? I'm obsessed with World Market - there is one right down the road from us, and I love just popping in there to check everything out. I'm not horribly familiar with their furniture - is it reasonably priced or on the more expensive side? I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

  9. Love the new couch and that quote is one of my favorites. I tried on the NARS Audacious lipstick in the Bette color that I'm in love with. I loved it. I was worried about looking too vampire-sh but it worked. I didn't get it though. I just got some new blush and concealer. I'm glad that you are feeling better and I hope that you have a great weekend!!

  10. That couch is so beautiful! I actually really like my Erin Condren (this is my third one), but I may be switching to something different for next year. I definitely need to go ahead and get one. I ordered the Simplified Planner, and while it was beautiful, it was just too much for what I need it for. Interested to see what you pick! Happy Friday!

  11. I LOVE the look of the Kate Spade planner, but I really want a planner that has hour layouts for each day. I used a professional planner from Gallery Leather (Barnes and Nobel) in 2014 and I have loved it so much. I bought another for 2015. They are great size, they hold up. They have a full month layout, and then they break down each day by the hour with spaces to write. It's a dream.

  12. I love your new couch. Also this week was unfairly long. About to walk out the door to work. BAHHHHHH

  13. LOVE that couch! I can't wait to see how your room turns out. So exciting!

  14. World Market is the best store!! I'd like to own pretty much everything the sell. I'm missing them in the South - they seem to be nowhere near me now :( Your couch is BEAUTIFUL and it looks really comfy. Great find. Enjoy the cooler weather... we are still in the 80s and I'm not so patiently waiting for the cool down. I felt like I was in a funk this week because it was NOT cold enough - haha!

  15. LOVE that couch! We're buying a new home in the next month or two, and I can't wait to get a new sofa! I'd say go with the Kate Spade planner... But, I'm all about those gold polka dots. They're on my phone cover, planner and anything else I can manage to find them on :)

  16. That couch is gorg!! Enjoy it!! I love KS planners! (and Lilly ones too) I hope you have a great weekend and great next week - it can definitely be easy to get in a rut this time of year and with everything you have going on!

  17. Loving that couch! I have an Erin condren planner too, and while I like it I'm thinking of mixing it up next year. Decisions, decisions!

  19. THAT COUCH. In love. I love their furniture so much I never go in the store, I'll have to leave crying.
I have the 17 month Kate Spade planner - I'm not sure if the 2015 will start in Jan but mine started in aug 14. i love it, its small (i got the smaller size) and i carry it around with me everywhere. i dont use it for a lot, if i wanted to use it for everything i wanted to write down, i would run out of room.

  20. LOVE your couch so much!!! I was torn on my next planner too. I got online to order the Whitney English one but just couldn't pull the trigger and spend the $72 after shipping haha. I ended up ordering a Plum Paper one, after a 10% off code it was around $30 I think. It had great reviews and looked very similar to the EC one. You may not like it though since you don't love the EC one. I've enjoyed my EC one, I just wanted to try something new :)

  21. You and Amanda both had the same great quote in mind today - love it. Check out the Mac gloss she blogged about - maybe the perfect not vampy color ha? I love the Lilly Pulitzer planner - it has tons of space and comes with stickers #winwin Happy weekend :)

  22. I definitely believe in that quote.
I haven't bought an Erin Condren planner. From what I have seen on blogs, they don't seem to be anything that I couldn't basically find at Target - except for not having my name on it, which is not something I care about.

  24. Easier said than done on that lipstick task indeed! Lipsticks are not my thing! I can't ever get the right shade! I love the couch..love the clean lines and structure and then tufted! AH! Amazing!! Happy weekend!

  25. I wanted the Day Designer sooo bad, but once I realized it was going to be $70+ with shipping I decided I didn't want it so bad after all! If cost is no issue I would definitely go with that one! It looks amazing and so functional! I'm hoping KS comes out with some nice 12 month ones, but I might go back to my trusty Moleskine. Love that couch! World Market has some really great things!

  26. Love the couch. Love the quote. And am SO super jealous of your weather. It's over 80 degrees here today, which is just gross. Can't handle it. I'm looking into new planners too and have narrowed it down to the Whitney English and the Emily Ley ones. If you go with WE, let me know what you think! Happy Friday!:)

  27. Ok so I totally have been waiting to respond so I can see all the great comments and feedback on the planners and not that there hasn't been but they are mixed! I haven't used any but have decided I need to. I need to write it out or else. I've used the May Designs one and while I like it, I need something with more pages, room to write stuff, etc. Let me know which one you go with!

Loving that couch btw...and I love World Market...ours closed a couple years ago. It made me so sad!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  28. I love that couch!!!! You have to let me know your thoughts if you get the WE planner.....my EC is almost over and I'm in the market for a new one. I need to make that recipe next week it looks sooooo good!

  29. OMG gal! That sofa is Amazeballs! I'm obsessed! It' will be perfect in front of your fireplace and I can't wait to see how you style the rest of the room. What a perfect statement piece!

  30. LOVE your couch!! And that quote is one of my faves!!

  31. I am so glad I found your EC planner review! I was struggling with spending $50 on a planner so I think I will stick with my simple Target planner from here on out! Love the new couch!

  32. What a tough decision! I can't believe 2015 is almost here too! I really want a Whitney English planner too. But it is so expensive. Decisions decisions... Hope you are having a great weekend :)

  33. I've owned all three of the planners you mentioned, and my favorite is the Kate Spade one. If you're a crazy organized person, the Whitney English planner has all the space you need. It has soooo many areas to write stuff down, it's insane. It was a little too overwhelming for me. Maybe watch a few reviews on youtube about it...that might be helpful.

LOVE that couch, and that's a great price too! Can't wait to see the finished fireplace room :)

  34. I was the same way about my Erin Condren planner this year. Not that impressed. I went with Emily Ley's Simplified Planner but the Day Designer is definitely on my list to try out!!
