Five on Friday 10/17

Friday, already?!?  I have been running around like a crazy person this week trying to get ready for our big Homecoming/housewarming party next weekend.  So much to do, so little time!

Before we moved in and we planned this weekend with our friends a few months back, I honestly thought I would have everything practically done in the house.  HA!  I'm probably 5% done so yeah, not even close.  It's been hard for me to accept that the house isn't going to look straight out of Pinterest when everyone comes to visit but there's just no way.  Not to say that's going to stop me from doing everything I possibly can in the next seven days before they arrive ;)

Here are some goodies from this week...

Soup Weather
Monday was a rainy, chilly day so soup and grilled cheese were on the menu for lunch!  I picked up a couple of these Panera soups for the first time and they did not disappoint.  We had lobster bisque and creamy tomato and they were both really good -- and half the price of having lunch AT Panera.

Uplifting Your Husband
Maegan from The Modern Tulip wrote an awesome post yesterday talking about how we treat our husbands.  It really got me thinking and I'm most definitely guilty of so many of these same things (especially nagging him to clean up, ugh) but at the end of the day, that's not the wife I want to be.  Check it out here -- such a great read!

Bar Cart
Introducing the newest addition to our fireplace room, this bar cart from Target.  When I first brought it home, I wasn't sure if the wood paneling would match with our floors... and it doesn't really but I'm going to do something like this with fabric and that should take care of the problem.

Halloween Link Up
This coming Tuesday, October 21st, is our Halloween link up and we would LOVE for you to join!!  Share anything you want... a recipe, a costume idea, a fun Halloween memory, literally whatever:)  We can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

Have a great one!

  1. I love those panera soups and agree that is much cheaper than going to panera! I went on Tuesday and it cost me $12 for half a sandwich, half a soup and a lemonade!

  2. WOOHOOOOO Friday! I love me some soup weather, but only if I have delicious soup, of course.

Looking forward to reading that post. I agree with you, I want to uplift my husband and not nag!

    Yay, new linkup!

  5. Let's be honest - will any of our houses EVER look like the ones we find on Pinterest? :) I'm sure your friends will be excited to see the house regardless of the shape that it's in - that's half the fun! I definitely am going to check out that husband article, and I'm so jealous that you got the Target bar cart! I've been eyeing it for nearly two years now, but we simply don't have the space for it right now. Maybe in the near future. Have a fabulous weekend!

  6. I have that bar cart and love it! The fabric will definitely help differentiate it! You have to post pictures after you do it! The Panera soups (I get at Target) are ridiculously good. I had to stop buying them because I was too addicted! Hope you have a great weekend!!

  8. I've been hesitant to try the panera soups from the store (I don't know why since I had a friend in college who worked for panera and told me the soups arrive in a bag...so it's obviously the same stuff). A soup and sandwich night sounds SO perfect and I'll have to pick a few of those up for sure! A lot of my friends think it's funny to "pick" on their spouses when we're in a big group of people (do you know what I mean? Just..silly little things that are actually tearing the person down?) I really hate it. People have commented a few times when J and I meet someone (usually it's me meeting someone he works with) and they'll say something to the effect of "Oh, J's a really great guy," and I'll respond, "I agree! I think I'll keep him!" And they usually floored. Most people take that opportunity to make a silly joke that tears their spouse down. I truly believe in uplifting our spouse though.

  24. Don't kill yourself trying to make your house perfect before your guests arrive. I promise you're the only one who will notice what's not done. I've put off inviting friends over for dinner because I wanted our house to be "done,"....but then I realized it's NEVER going to be "done" in my mind. I'll always have a wishlist of things to change/add...so I finally accepted that it will ALWAYS be a work in progress (at least in my head!). Can't wait for the Halloween link-up!

  25. Have fun at your housewarming! Your house is a reflection of you anyway and your friends and family already love you!! It will be the best to have everyone there! So enjoy! (Easier said than done, I know!) Thanks for sharing Maegan's post too!!

  27. I literally just saw that bar cart at Target yesterday and thought it was so cute! I think all the painting alone that you've done is huge progress on the house so far! Excited for the linkup-- does an apple recipe fall under halloween?!

  29. lol I stll feel like I want my house to be pinteresty every time people come over, I feel like it will never be done though. That husband post is so true. I have definitely changed since we got married, for the better.. I've just realised that nagging and comparing and doing all that only causes fights, and they are easily avoidable. I don't want to be that kind of wife, and more importantly I don't want to be in that kind of marriage! Have a great weekend :)

  31. I've always wondered about that soup from Panera. I will definitely try it! And I love that post! We did the same thing when we bought a house; I had all of these tasks planned and everything took so much longer. Hope you have a great weekend! xo
