Brady Boy

So if you follow me on Instagram, you know that this weekend....

We got a puppy!  Brady is an eight week old Golden Retriever and we are in looooove.  He's the cutest, sweetest little fluff ball and we've been having so much fun with him since we picked him up on Saturday afternoon.  It was a two hour drive home from the breeders and he did so great - no accidents, no crying and I think he already loves riding in the car.

Brady wasn't actually supposed to be his name.  Before we picked him up, we narrowed it down to 3-4 names that we liked and the plan was to choose one once we saw him.  But after meeting him, none of those names just seemed to fit him.  We spent most of the car ride home googling names and when Brady popped up, we just knew it was supposed to be his name.  It fits him perfectly!

He gets puppy hiccups about ten times a day, loves when you rub his belly and running through leaf piles, seems pretty scared of any stairs right now, MUST carry his leash in his mouth at all times and is not a great cuddler but I'm going to force him to get better at that one ;)

And such a good sleeper!  He was so exhausted the first night we brought him home that he fell asleep in his crate all by himself and didn't even cry when we went to bed.  We did get up at 2am with him to let him out (but he ended up relieving himself on the living room carpet, haha) and after that he was back in the crate until 7am with barely a peep out of him.  Major fingers crossed that things stay this way.  Well, besides the whole accident on the carpet situation but that's a work in progress!

He's a happy little guy and we're so excited for all of the fun to come.  If you have any tips for puppies, I'd love to hear them!  Hope you all had a great weekend, too!

  1. Aww he is so precious! I had a chocolate lab puppy when I was growing up and she was the best! Good luck with puppy training- my advice would be to look in your area for puppy play groups, obedience school, etc. t's a great way to socialize your pup since he's an only dog (and might be missing playing with his siblings).

  9. He's so ADORABLE! Again, welcome to the puppy mommy club. :) Since we just went through all the puppy stuff with Finn - well, let's face it, at 6 months old we still are going through it - I'm fresh with ideas and tips to help you with anything that you have questions on. Don't hesitate to ask! Glad he's doing so well already, though - that's always a good sign!

  12. Ah he is SO cute!! The puppy stage is so fun (and kind of frustrating) but you guys will love it! And for some unsolicited advice... we used the ASPCA's instructions for training our pup on basic commands and they worked like a charm!

  19. SO exciting and so stinking cute!!! I seriously want to snuggle that pup! Puppies are the BEST! The most loyal, loving sweeties! Crate training is major from the beginning and he will get on a potty schedule right away! Not working is great right now because they need 24/7 attention to get used to going to the bathroom on a schedule and not do things like chew everything in sight. I can't wait to see more pictures!!!

  20. Congratulations! He's adorable.
I'd be a terrible vet tech if I didn't just give you some precautionary tips for Goldens (which are one of the sweetest dog breeds around, btw--you did great picking him! Goldens notoriously have hip problems and they can gain weight really easily. Just be careful with what you feed him, keep him at a decent weight, and you'll be just fine.
Good luck with the puppy training! Sneak it lots of cuddles!

  22. So cute! Congratulations!
One thing that will help with training: Get a cheap spray bottle (Target often has them in the travel section) and fill it with water. Then, if you catch him chewing on something he isn't supposed to or using the potty on the carpet, mist him with water. I have found that it works better than yelling. Saint has gotten to the point where I just have to point the bottle in her direction, not even spray it, and she stops doing whatever.

  35. Cuteness overload! I can't even take it. If I were to offer you advice it would be to let him sleep with you if you love puppy snuggles but that might be the best advice :)

  40. He is such a doll!!! Newton slept through the night first night I got him and then after that it was a solid month of getting up in the middle of the night to take him out :) I always found that taking them out right after waking up, regardless if they are asleep for 5 minutes or 5 hours, they tend to get the potty training thing down better that way! Good Luck!

  41. Ahhhhhh! Brady is adorable!!! I can't believe it's already been 2.5 years since our little guy Roscoe came home with us. We did a 6 week puppy class at Petco which really helped train US on how to train him! Congrats and have fun with him. I miss puppy breath every day!!

  43. Puppies are the best! Word of advice: stick to that whole sleeping in the crate thing. I gave in to my dachshund and have a permanent bed buddy/blanket hog. :)

We use to raise goldens growing up and when the Hubs insisted on a lab (miss Emma Jo who of course I wouldn't trade for the world) all I could think about was the day I get our next pup which will be a puppy golden retriever brother for Emma haha He is ADORABLE! So happy he is sleeping so well too! Cannot wait to see a ton more pics! xoxo Happy Tuesday friend!

  56. OMG Brady is so cute and fluffy!! Puppies are so much fun… also so much work! But it is totally worth it. We didn't crate train our first dog, but our second we started him out in a crate because he was injured (and then he was so bad we couldn't trust him!) But he loves it in there. It is like his own room he goes to to get away from his brother!
