Five on Friday 11/21

Hellloooo Friday.  I have been waiting all week for you!  Tomorrow we're headed to Chicago for the night and I am so, so, so excited.  I haven't been back since we moved and I cannot wait to see my friends and shop and eat and do all things Chicago.  BUT, this is the first time I have to leave Brady and that kind of makes me ridiculously sad.  My family is coming over for the night to watch him so I know he'll be in good hands but I'll still miss that fur ball.

Here's what we've been up to this week...

CA-RAZY Weather
The weather was insane this week.  It snowed from Monday night-Thursday and we got a grand total of 19 inches. It's the second snowiest November on record in West Michigan... and it all came within a few days!

Christmas Spirit
Speaking of all of the snow, it totally put me in the Christmas mood.  On Thursday, I finally caved and turned on the Christmas music and popped into a few stores to pick up some decor.  I can't wait to decorate the new house!

New Planner
I finally decided on a 2015 planner - because I know you were all so curious about what I was going to do ;)  Last year I had the Erin Condren planner (see my review here) and this year I was contemplating between a few different options... but it came down to not wanting to shell out the big bucks.  I ended up going with a Sugar Paper for Target planner and I love it!  It's super cute, the perfect size to throw in my bag and it was a whooping $9.99.

Bedding
Well, the white bedding came... and it went.  I've always thought I wanted crisp, bright white bedding but I really didn't like it once I got it!  I think I'm more of a cream or a muted pattern type of girl. Either way, the hunt continues. We are painting our bedroom in the next few days and hopefully that will help me make a decision - pictures to come!

Operation Christmas Child
Saving the best for last.  Operation Christmas Child is something I think Nick and I are going to do on Sunday. Basically you just pack a shoe box filled with things for a boy/girl in a certain age range and then you drop it off at a drop off location near you (found on the website).  Super easy and something that will make a huge impact on a child at Christmas. November 17-24 is collection week so we only have a few more days if you want to participate!

Also, I put together a list of other ways to give back last year so check that out here if you're interested :)

And lastly, today I'm guest posting over at Natalie's blog - sharing a little of 'what's in my bag' - so head on over there and say hi!  Have a great weekend!

  4. I am seriously considering that Target planner too, strictly for the price! You will have A blast decorating your house for the first time! Oh what fun!

  5. I still can't believe how much snow you guys have gotten! Is it lake effect snow? It's just craziness to have that much before Thanksgiving even, but the pictures of the pupper in the snow are absolutely priceless.

Loving your new planner, and the price is perfect. I'll have to look out for it ;-)

Happy Friday gurlie and enjoy Chicago, still loving our visit from a few months ago!

  7. I didn't realize the Operation Christmas Child deadline was soon, I need to get on that! And yay for a Sugar Paper planner!! That snow is gorgeous but I don't know if I could deal with that so early in the winter! Have fun in Chicago :)

  8. I need to get on the Operation Christmas Child right now! You will probably have an easier time finding the bedding when the room is painted and you are in it and can see what works best. I literally picked that planner up yesterday and almost got it! Have so much fun in Chicago and stay warm!!!

  9. 19 inches of snow!? That's insane! Brady boy seems to enjoy it, but I'm sure you're not overly thrilled about doing the potty training in all the snow. :) I'm sorry to hear about your bedding - it took us quite a long time to find the perfect comforter set, too. Do you have a JCPenny near you? That's where we finally found ours, and it's a classic cream comforter - sounds like what you're looking for. Have fun in Chicago this weekend, stay warm!

  10. Ummm, with that much snow you totally get to celebrate Christmas as early as you want!!!! Looks pretty, but cold.

Bummer about the comforter. Have you checked Etsy, Overstock or Amazon? Good luck!

    happy weekend, friend!

  13. That snow! So much snow! And I've switched from EC to Sugar Paper for Target for 2015, too! I chose a gold version -- but can't wait to use it! And I know all about being sad to leave pup behind -- the first time I left Soph, I was ridiculously heartbroken...it was embarassing! haha! Have a great weekend, girl!

  18. 19 INCHES!!! WOW -- I seriously can't even imagine and I live in Iowa!! Aww - sad day you didn't like the white bedding. And I think you've convinced me I need one of those planners now too ;) Love that you're doing OCC-- we do that through our church, too! Happy Friday :):)

  19. love the operating christmas child. at home, our kmart and target (same name, different from american stores) have the trees out the front, and you take a tag and it has a name, age and gender and you go and buy a present, wrap it up and stick the tag on it and put under the tree and the charity people pick them up each night. we did it every year and we got to pick a child to get a gift for, mum made us 'give a gift up' for ourselves which we loved to do, even though we were a bit spoiled.
    anyway rambling. great idea!
the snow looks lovely but gah i'm glad i'm not living it haha. we've only had a little thank goodness, im hoping it stays away this weekend because we need to do yard work lol.
boo about the white, i kind of agree with the ivory or cream though, i think thats what i want as well.
    have a great weekend!

  21. I have been literallly singing Christmas carols since September, because my son (Brady!) is obsessed. We have a Christmas CD in the car that he wants to listen to everyday on the way to school.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh my goodness- I can't handle all of that snow!! It's so beautiful though :) And those sugar paper planners are so cute and are a steal- hope you have a blast in Chi-town!! xoxo

  23. 19 inches of snow? 19?!!? Holy moly...I couldn't do it! I guess that's why I live in Texas! Love the Operation Christmas Child project. I didn't know the 24th was the last day to drop off, so I better get to work on that!

  24. Have an awesome time in Chicago! I am sure Bradyboy will be extra excited for you to get home!

  26. Good job on finding a bargain planner. I'm really loving my Kate Spade one - surprisingly - I didn't think I would like it at first.
Oh man - that's the worst thing about having fur babies... leaving them. I even hate leaving mine eveyr day to go to work.

  27. I'm so glad you posted that planner, I just posted yesterday a few planner options I was debating. I'll have to head to Target this weekend, I love that price tag! Have so much fun in Chicago!

  29. Have so much fun in Chicago!! Cant believe the snow you all have been having-crazy! I've had my Christmas carols blasting since Nov 1 and I'm getting my decor out this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I cannot even handle how much snow you got! Hopefully Chicago isn't quite as crazy weather-wise!? I love the Operation Christmas Child project and need to participate again this year for sure. Have a great weekend!

  31. I can't get over the cuteness of your puppy!!! So sweet! I love Operation Christmas Child. I was packing boxes at our relay center on Tuesday and we have had a GREAT turnout this year. Thanks for promoting such a wonderful organization. :)

    xo Always, Abby

  32. I've never seen that much snow in my life! That's crazy! But that picture of Brady...I die! Did you order your planner or did you find it in store? I'm looking for a new one as well and really not wanting to shell out the $50 for another Erin Condren! Hope you have a great time in Chicago!

    ReplyDelete
  33. All that snow! This is one time I'm happy to NOT be in Michigan, haha. I am going to look for those planners the next time I'm at Target-- you can't beat that price & it looks so similar to the more expensive ones. I hope you guys have a great time back in Chicago this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Brady is so adorable with snow on his face! I like that planner from Target. "You get what you pay for" isn't always true, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Sugar Paper collection at Target this year is SO cute! I ended buying a lot of stuff too! I can't resist cute stationary or paper. Good choice :)

Can you send your cold weather my way? It's supposed to be 80 degrees on Thanksgiving and I'm a scrooge.

YAY for skipping on the white comforter ;)

  36. All that snow! Ahhh! I love Christmas music, probably because it is so short lived you can't get sick of it. Love that planner, I have an EC but probably wont purchase another! You will surely find something better once the bedroom is painted, good luck! I think we are going to do "adopt an angel" through Reeces Rainbow. They're my favorite website to donate a little extra money when I can (the money goes toward special need children's adoption fee! Hope to you have a good weekend!

  37. Oh no - what happened to the white linen?? I was so excited for you! Love your planner - and Operation Christmas Child sounds like our charity in SA called Santa Shoebox.
Enjoy your time in Chicago x

  38. That's a TON of snow!! Good thing you already found great snow boots for the season!! Brady is adorable as always :) Good luck on the bedding hunt... I think it's harder to pick out the perfect bedding than paint colors :) Hope you had a great time in Chicago!

  39. It's so hard leaving them isn't it?? Our dog is almost two and I still hate it even though I know she has so much fun at her doggy camp :) We have to leave her for 8 days over the holidays and that will be the longest time we've ever spent away from her :( I'm sure I'll have more trouble with it than she will!

That is a lot of snow!! Yikes!! We don't have any yet, but I'm totally in the Christmas mood and have started watching Christmas movies and singing carols.

One of the best things about a new year is a new planner!! I can't wait to pick out a new one. And I've always wanted white bedding. I wonder if I'll change my mind once I eventually try it out one day too! It will probably show all the dog hair and I'll hate it ha!

The Christmas shoe boxes are a great idea. I've done it in the past, but haven't actually thought about it yet this year. I'll have to look into it before it's too late!

  40. I love that picture of B in the snow! How cute is he? DG's family is in Buffalo and got dumped on too! It's insane how fast that snow fell. I love your new planner. I love my Erin Condren planner, but I do love Target's selections. I use a May Book to keep in my purse. DG and I are adopting a local child and buying them Christmas gifts. xo

  41. 19 inches of snow?!?!?!?! That's crazy!!! Specially for this early in the year! At least your super cute puppy seems to be loving it ;) Hope you're enjoying Chicago :)

  43. 19 inches?! No way, no how! We got about three inches and I'm over here reeling because of it. So not ready for this weather! Hope you had the best time in Chicago and saw all your faves and did a ton of great stuff. Looking forward to hearing about it and adding to my list for our December trip. =)
