Holiday Bucket List

It's our first holiday season in our new city, in our new house and with Brady - so it's going to be a big one!  This year is going to look totally different than it has in the past but I'm excited about making new traditions with my little fam.

I had fun putting together my fall bucket list - even though I totally sucked it up and accomplished a whole five things on it - so I put together a (shorter) holiday version.  I'm going to blame my fall failure on getting the dog, he was the best 'to do' :)

Here's what I'm planning for the next 6 weeks...

Black Friday
You guys, I'm a sucker for Black Friday.  I love it.  I love getting up in the middle of the night, the madness and the deals.  However, I refuse to go out on Thanksgiving and think it's so terrible that employees are being forced to work on a holiday like this one.  I mean, it's called Black FRIDAY, not Thursday.  End rant.

Candy Cane Lane
The downtown of our city gets all decked out for the holidays, including a 'Candy Cane Lane'.  I will definitely need to go check it out and take a picture (obviously).  Nick and I can grab dinner down there after and it will be a fun little date night!

All of the Lights
Drive around neighborhoods in our warm car with comfy clothes on, Christmas music playing and Starbucks in hand while ooh-ing and ahh-ing over Christmas lights.

Sugar Cookies
I love me some cookies but I've never been a big fan of the decorated sugar cookie ones.  I do still want to make some though so I think we'll bag them up and pass them out to neighbors, co-workers or friends :)

Sleep by the Fire
We STILL haven't had a fire in our fireplace yet!  There are a couple masonry issues that need to be fixed but as soon as that happens, I'm moving the air mattress in there and we're going to watch Christmas movies all night and fall asleep listening to the fire crackling.

Christmas Eve Church
This is probably my most favorite Christmas tradition.  Growing up, we always went to our churches Christmas Eve candlelight service after a big dinner at home.  Last year was the first year I spent away with Nicks family and I really, really missed this.  The two of us went to a church near his house but it just wasn't the same.  So excited for it this year!

And of course we'll be decorating the house inside and out, doing lots of shopping and watching all of the Christmas movies.  It's the most wonderful time of the year!

What are your favorite holiday traditions?

  1. So I love each and everything mentioned on your bucket list. Especially agree with the black FRIDAY not THURSDAY!!!

Christmas lights, sugar cookies and the Christmas eve service are three of my favorite things about the season!

    Have a fabulous thanksgiving!

  3. The first few holidays after getting married are always so strange! Especially for someone like me who hates change and thinks my family does it all the best way, ha! But Conor & I have loved starting our own traditions over the years. This is the first time we'll do Christmas Eve at home together. Anyways, enjoy those nights by the fire!

  4. That candy cane lane looks amazing, I'll have to hunt down something similar around here! Loving your list, now that we have a "fireplace" I can't wait to cozy around it while decking the halls and enjoying hot cocoa :)

    Happy Thanksgiving Eve gurlie!

  5. This is a great list of things to accomplish throughout the coming weeks! I'm pretty excited to start making traditions with my new little fam, too. You even could take Brady in the car with you to see the lights!

  7. Love your list and I hope that you get to do all of those things. I always want to have Christmas-y drinks. Not necessarily grown-up drinks, just ones that have a holiday theme. :-) So not a fan of stores being open tomorrow either. I think that it's awful. I will be working on Friday though, and I'll send some waves your way that you get good deals! :-) Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

  10. I love all of these... I wonder if our fireplace works... They do carriage rides here - I've always wanted to try that. It goes through one of the most decorated neighborhoods! There's also Christmas at the Gaylord hotel that is supposed to be amazing... I love candlelight services! I haven't been able to go in several years, but maybe this year...

  11. I totally agree with you, and will not be going anywhere near a store on Thanksgiving Day. That day is meant for family, and I will not contribute to other people being forced to be away from theirs simply so that I can shop - which I can do any other day of the year. However, you can bet I will be out and about on Friday morning (the TRUE Black Friday), to see if I can score some deals! Love all of your bucket list ideas. Totally fun. And totally doable!:) Happy Thanksgiving, sweet girl!

  20. I normally would agree with all the BF stuff people are complaining about with it starting on Thursday. However being an employee that has had to work it the past few years because people need places to stay when they visit family, I am torn on both sides of that argument. But hopefully you get all your deals - we'll have to see how safe it is here in STL for Black Friday.

  25. I love driving around and looking at Christmas lights!! We actually just put our lights up. It was daytime so we couldn't really see what they looked like, but then it got dark and we were like, "Wowza!" They are so bright haha Our neighbour told us it's not really Christmas until you cause a plane to veer off course so there you go!

We have a new tradition that we just started last year. We'll be going to the same little cabin for a weekend getaway for the second year in a row. It will be just my boyfriend, our pup, and I. I'm really excited to have a new little tradition for our little family!
