Socks, Mexico & Ice Cream

How's that for a random title?

First of all, THANK YOU to everyone that joined in on the Thanksgiving link up fun yesterday!  I loved reading all of your posts and was all but drooling over your amazing recipes and tablescapes.  Not to mention all of the great hosting tips!  One day I'll get my chance to put them to work.  I hope you'll link up with us again for our Christmas edition coming Tuesday, December 16th (also known as my half birthday).  It'll be here before we know it!

Now back to the randomness.  My favorite Chicago girl, Nina at Flowers In My Hair, nominated me for the One Lovely Blog award so I'm here to share seven random things about myself today!  Let's get right to it.

I must wear socks to bed, even in the summer.

I despise crying in front of other people.  I'll try my hardest not to, even in the saddest of situations.  Nick is another story, though.  I've cried in front of him just because I was over tired a few times, haha.  And while we're talking about crying, the cry face that will never get old...

I haven't started Christmas shopping yet. For anyone.  Only 35 days to go... :|

My high school/college summers were spent working at an ice cream shop near Lake Michigan and it's still my favorite job to date.  The place was quite famous, actually - it was featured on the Today Show and President George W. Bush even stopped for a treat during his 2004 campaign!

My goal for 2015 is to get rid of Nick and I's student loans.  Those things haunt me.  Any tips on how to do this as quickly and painlessly as possible are welcome.

My friends and I went to Mexico for our high school senior year spring break trip, in which I brought home an e.coli infection.  You honestly couldn't pay me to go back there.  I'm scarred for life.

Two years ago, Nick and I made a game out of how long we could go without turning on our heat.  We made up "No Heat November" and we were flipping freezing.  I've never been so excited to see December 1st in my life.

The rules call to nominate seven other bloggers so here's who I've got... only if you'd like to participate of course!

Amanda @ As The Wine Cork Turns
Elise @ High Heels and Glittering Eyes
Jessi @ Jessi's Design
Kristina @ Medicine & Manicures
Lindsay @ Pink and Fabulous
Diana @ Wonderfully Made
Katie @ Yellow Mango Life

Now, tell me something really random about you!

  1. I can totally see not wanting to cry in front of people - I have the ugly cry too LOL!! Yikes on e.coli...I can see why that would be terrifying to go back to!! Thanks for sharing - love these posts!!

  2. I hate crying in front of people too! If you find the secret to get rid of student loans let me know! Theo and I already decided our kids will have zero loans. Think of how much of your pay check goes to them? And if you both have loans that doubles. It's depressing!

  3. Awwww I'm so sorry you brought home ecoli from Mexico... I say give it another chance! One of my favorite trips was to Cancun, you can't beat the gorgeous water and unlimited food and drinks. Just make sure you check the reviews of the resort and stay somewhere 4 or 5 star ;-)

Love the No-Heat November, although even here in FL, we turned our heat on last night. It was in the 30's! Yipes!

  4. No heat November? That sounds like something my husband is trying to participate in ;) I never cry in front of other people either.... and that epic cry face always brightens my day ha! Hope you have a great day (and stay warm!!)

  5. Umm no heat November sounds horrible! I'd freeze to death! I have the heat on here in FL today because it's only 40 degrees out. I got e.coli once from Friday's... it was the worst. I haven't been back to Friday's since then so I don't blame you for being scarred from Mexico!

  6. I'm dying at the photo of Kim Kardashian - it really never gets old! It's always so fun to learn a little bit more about you. Ryan and I do something similar with the heat - we don't swear it off for an entire month, but it's usually a game of how low we can keep it during the day and for how long. I'm not a huge fan!

  7. We just paid off our loans!! I'll send you the spreadsheet I used!

  8. OMG Kimmy K's ugly cry is the best!! Eeeeek! And loved learning these random facts about you! I never ever wear socks to bed and Ryan is the same way about heat (although it's quite different around here) but this girl likes to be warm! Have a great Hump-Day!! xo

  10. My dad kept the thermostat on like 65 all of the time when I was growing up. So yesterday I was here and I was a little bit cold, checked the thermostat and it was on 62!! I'm so used to it being cold I don't mind. But girl no heat at all?! I give you a ton of credit for that because I would seriously go nuts. That picture of Kim K..LOL. I feel bad laughing, but I kind of don't.

  11. Oh my gosh, y'all aren't using your heat yet?! That makes me feel like a pansy because our hosue got to 65 degrees one night and I turned it on and didn't look back. haha. Good luck with the student loans... I've got those too, so depressing!

  12. I cannot believe you went without heat for all of November! That is crazy. That is awful that you got sick in Mexico. I'd kill for a beach vacation in Mexico about now! That picture of Kim K! haha. So funny.

  13. lol this is great! i love the pic of kim k... so scary! as for the student loans you just have to autopay those things every month, that way you wont forget and you wont miss the money if it doesnt stay in your account for long! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  16. Love these posts and learning random things about my favorite bloggers! Thank you for making me feel better about not starting my Christmas shopping yet {except for that one I bought in July...and then lost!!!}...but then when I read just 35 days it nearly induced a panic attack! Wait...you didn't turn the heat on for all of November...and this was when you lived in Chicago?!!? I can't even wrap my head around this...whoa. That's dedication!

  20. we definitely try and wait as long as possible to turn on the heat, but it's a bit hard with the weather being like it is! when we lived in a second floor apartment we rarely had to turn it on because the heat came from the people below us!

  22. Girl, I have to wear socks to bed too. I'd be scared for life if I brought home ecoli, ewww!

I've always wanted to work at an ice cream shop, but then I worry about how much I would weigh. I love icecream.

  28. Oh Kim Kardashian...so incredibly hideous! hahahahah
You e.coli???? That is so awful!! I'm scared to go to Mexico too! I don't think I'll ever take that chance!

  29. We tried our hardest not to turn the heat on, but there is no way we cold make it to December 1st! I don't have any great advice for student loans other than start with the smallest and pay as much as possible on it, then move on to the bigger ones once that's paid off!

  30. Girl, I went to Mexico when I was 14 and again at 26 and come home sick BOTH times! No, I didn't drink the water, either... When I lived in Minneapolis, I remember that terrible period when the weather was cold but the landlord hadn't turned on the radiator heat yet (ahhhh, communal heating!). Those days were rough! Good luck making it to December. Even in Dallas, our heat is cranking... And it's mid-60's during the day here ;)

  31. Whoa...that getting sick in Mexico sounds rough! And I try really, really hard not to cry in front of people. But Stephen has seen me cry wayyyy more than he could ever want to haha. Cue ugly cry!

  32. The only time I went to Mexico I got horrendously sick, too. Not good memories! I was throwing up everywhere. I think it was the ice cubes in the water?? Or something I ate.

  33. I wish I couldn't cry in front of people! When my waterworks start they can't stop!!

  34. What a terrible souvenir to bring home!!

  35. I hate crying in front of other people, too! I always look like a hot mess once I start crying so I avoid it at all costs, and save the tears for at home. haha. This was a fun post to read and get to know you better!

    xo Always, Abby
