6 Must Read Books

I've always loved to read but it's definitely one of those things I don't do enough of.  There are few things better in life than curling up with a blanket, cup of tea and a good book and it's something I want to make more of a priority in 2015.

Here are six of my all-time favorite books...

//Devil In The White City
A true story coming from Chicago at the 1893 World Fair, this book tells the story of mass murderer, H. H. Holmes. It's chilling, historical and actually pretty crazy that this really happened.   Leonardo DiCaprio owns the film rights - hopefully coming soon - so that should be reason enough to read it!

//Unglued
Lysa Terkheurst books are the best.  They just speak to me and once I start one, I can't put it down.  Unglued explores how we can better control our raw emotions and reactions to said emotions.  I always feel like a better person after I read her books.

//The Memory Keeper's Daughter
A fiction novel taking place in 1964, a doctor delivers his own twins in a snowstorm.  One of the twins has Down Syndrome so without the mothers knowledge, the doctor/husband sends the child off with the nurse to 'get rid of her'.  The nurse ends up raising the child as her own while the mother believes the child died.  Obviously not all stays hidden...

//My Sister's Keeper
My favorite book of ALL TIME.  I've read it at least 5 times and I think I'm going to start again since it's been a while.  Some of you may have seen the movie that came out in 2009 - ugh, that movie sucked.  It does not follow the book at all and I was so disappointed.  Read this, I promise you will love it!

//The Glass Castle
This is another true story that kind of blows your mind.  Jeannette Wall's memoir gives the term 'bad parents' a whole new meaning.  The family was raised in poverty as nomads - family lessons included how to shoplift and steal money for alcohol.  It's pretty crazy, that's all I have to say.

//Love Does
Bob Goff shares his 'legendary' stories in this book, like how he pursued his wife for 3 years before she agreed to date him, spent 16 days in the Pacific Ocean and took his 3 children to Uganda to have ice cream with the President. It's a lighthearted and fun read - one that will inspire you.

What's your favorite book?

  8. These are some great recommendations! I need to get on reading Devil in the White City - I know that's one of my dad's favorite books, too, and if Leo owns the film rights, well - that's reason enough to read it, right? :) I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought My Sister's Keeper (the movie) sucked, lol. The book is so much better!
