Looking Ahead

While January may be my least favorite month - so cold, so dark, so much snow - there is something exhilarating about the start of a new year.  2014 was great to us but I still love the blank slate/fresh start feeling that comes with January 1st.  I've been thinking a lot lately about what I want to get out of 2015 and have come up with a few things that I think will help make this coming year the best it can be.  Resolutions or goals - whatever they're called - here they are!

ONE | House Crackdown
We've really been lagging on the home front.  It's totally because of the holidays and new puppy but it's time to get crackin' again.  I have a list of things I need to buy and projects I want to do - I just have major ADD when deciding what to do next and then don't do anything at all so I need to focus on one room at a time!

TWO | Give Back
We were doing this consistently at our church in Chicago but not having a 'home church' in Michigan (a 2015 to do, for sure) has kind of put giving back to a stop.  There are other ways than giving through a church but I just need to find one that Nick and I both support.

THREE | Blogging
Starting with the new design in January, I really want to take this little blog to the next level.  Not sure what that means exactly but I'm looking forward to blogging a bit more 'seriously'.  Maybe I should start with taking better pictures, not on an iPhone ;)

FOUR | Visit Europe
I'm still working on convincing Nick of this but I really want to do a London/Paris trip in the fall.  Neither of us have been to Europe before and now's the perfect time before kids are in the picture!

FIVE | Print Pictures
I still haven't printed my wedding pictures and literally all of my pictures from the last few years are just on my computer.  I need to print them off and start organizing them - heaven forbid something happen to my computer and I lose everything.

SIX | Be A Better Friend
We have seven weddings to attend this coming summer - so many huge, exciting things happening for lots of our friends!  I want to really be there for them and help in anyway I possibly can to make their celebrations the best they can be.  I'd also love to make some new friends here in Michigan!

SEVEN | Bye Bye Student Loans
Not sure if this goes well with planning a trip to Europe ha, but I'd LOVE to get rid of our student loans.  Or at least get rid of a good chunk of them.  Paying them off was a huge focus for 2014, too and we've made progress but how nice it would be to say goodbye to them forever.

EIGHT | Read More
Pretty self explanatory.  I love reading but only read a total of TWO books for fun this year.  I definitely want to change that in 2015 - at least one book a month.  Although, I did read the entire Bible in 2014, something I've wanted to do forever and am pretty proud of :)

But most of all, I want to live every single day to it's fullest.  Put down my phone more and live in the moment.  Be completely 100% present with whatever I'm doing and make lots of memories.  And just be happy.  Life is too short to be anything but happy.

I hope you have a wonderful and SAFE holiday!  I'll see you back here on Friday.  Happy New Year, friends!

  7. Such great goals! I would love to go to Europe again! I'm definitely wanting to read more -- I love it, but never save time for it anymore, which is very sad. Can't wait to see the new blog design and see where this blog goes! Love stopping by here every day! Happy New Year!

  8. We need to start giving back more too! We don't have a "home" church that we are totally plugged into right now, so our tithing has been spotty, and I hate it. We always gave regularly at our last church, and it was just something that we enjoyed doing. Definitely want to get back to that. And, I too have a lot of pictures to print. I realized that it may be a while before I would ever get around to doing it, so B and I bought an external hard drive for me to store them on so that if something did happen to my computer, they wouldn't all be lost forever. That might be something worth looking into, at least for now! We picked up one at Target for less than $100 and it has ALL of our pictures and videos on it. We store it in a waterproof/fireproof safe, so I know all my precious memories are safe:)

  9. Great goals. I definitely can understand the read more. I think I may have to steal it! I'm always scared there's going to be a fire and I'll have to grab my laptop first so I can have all of my pictures. I understand your pain!

    Happy New Year!

  10. Great goals! I have at least 5 similar ones (fix up house, give back, start blog, student loans, read more). It's always a struggle to keep on top of them!

Completely unrelated, I had been reading your blog for a while and bought the beige/plaid blanket scarf you reccomended. I love it! It was such a great reccomendation! It also kicked off my scarf buying binge - I bought an unreasonable amount - but as soon as I realized how warm blanket scarves were, I needed them in every color! My wardrobe thanks you!

  11. Those are all great goals, lady. A home church is so importnat, right? You'll find the right one, I hope soon!

I also hope you get to Europe. My husband and I are trying to plan a possible Europe trip this year too. Hopefully I can print my pictures out, like you do. I'm so bad about my wedding pictures, ugh!

I agree about being more present, it's fun to document things but then you lose the moment.

    Cheers to 2015!

  12. These all sound perfect and simple :) This is the first year I really don't have any major goals. I want to enjoy the year to the fullest and be a better friend, wife and daughter. Happy new year, don't celebrate too hard tonight ;)

  13. I love your list! I need to focus on most of these things this year too- I love the variety and that you didn't keep anything too specific, gives you room to expand on each of them however the year takes you. hope you guys had a great new years celebration :)

  21. Great goals! We were just talking about printing pictures the other day. I've got tons on our external hard drive. Europe in the fall would be amazing! But my favorite is to live every moment!

  22. Great goals. It's always nice to make a few new friends when you move to a new city. It's always harder than I think it'll be especially when you are out of school and aren't working outside the home. Good luck!! I'm excited to hear about your travel plans and always enjoy reading about your travel and DIY adventures. It can definitely be overwhelming to decide which house project to start on first. Maybe pick one room at a time and stick with a room until you feel like it's done? Easier said that done, I know :)

  24. Student Loans suck :( I want them to just disappear I am thankful because I work for the state of Texas and after 10 years of public service (I have 5 years completed), my loans will be forgiven. So for now, I am just paying the minimum!

Praying that your 2015 is by far the best year yet. Praise God for his blessings. So glad Ive gotten to know you through blogging :)

  29. I love your list! The home front is still on our agenda, after 4 years. I'm convinced once we get our house the way we want it, it'll be time to sell! :) Europe sounds amazing! And, 7 weddings?!? Wow! I'm with you on taking my blog to the next level. Can't wait to see your new design! xo
