New Years in Detroit

Happy 2015!!  We had a great New Years Eve and I hope you did, too!  We spent the holiday in Detroit with some of our new friends we've made here in Michigan.  Originally we were thinking about planning a quick trip but when our friends suggested this little getaway, we thought it might be easier (and cheaper).  I'm so glad we went this route because we had such a good night and now we can put that extra money towards spring break :)

NYE actually started out in panic.  We had cleaned our floors with some heavy duty stripper on the 30th and after we were done, we caught Brady licking the floor.  We weren't too concerned because we had cleaned everything up but we still kept an eye on him.  He seemed fine... until our three hour car ride to Detroit the next day. (Possible TMI ahead)

About halfway there, he had diarrhea and of course managed to get none of it in his crate and all of it in the car.  We pulled over to clean it up and he was acting off, heavy drooling and really out of it.  We started panicking, thinking he was poisoned from the cleaner so we found an animal hospital nearby and headed over there.  Not without him throwing up in the car on the way there, too.

They quickly got him in, ran tests and determined it wasn't from the cleaner but something else he must have ate.  He was given an IV to settle his stomach, medication and a strict diet for the next week.  Poor guy.  He seemed to be feeling better once he got his IV so we decided to continue on to Detroit.  We felt terrible leaving him with Nicks parents for the night but knew he was in good hands.  He's feeling MUCH better now thankfully, however I'm thinking I may need to purchase a muzzle for this guy because he puts literally everything in his mouth and these vet bills ain't cheap ;)

Because of our pit stop, we made it downtown much later than planned and sadly missed out on getting BBQ for lunch.  We met up with our friends at our hotel and grabbed a few drinks at the hotel bar and another place nearby before catching a shuttle to the Joe Louis for the Detroit Red Wings game.

It was a good game and the Wings won 3-1!  Afterwards, we grabbed dinner and drinks at a local bar to ring in the New Year.  I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that it's 2015 now.

We made our way back to the hotel and played Heads Up for a good hour before passing out around 2:30am.  It was a fun night and it was great to spend some more time with our new friends!

New Years Day was an extremely lazy one.  We picked Brady up from Nicks parents, drove home and the rest of the day was spent on the couch, watching college football and eating Chinese food.  2015, I'm liking you already.

I'm SO behind on blogging right now but I wanted to say thank you to everyone for your well wishes from Christmas and the New Year!  I'm hoping to get through my inbox and Bloglovin' feed this weekend :)  Enjoy the rest of your holiday breaks!

  7. I'm so glad that Brady is on the mend! That had to have been so scary. I laughed when you suggested him wearing a muzzle to protect him from himself. Glad you got things resolved so you could all still enjoy NYE. Hope your new year is filled with many smiles and happy times in your new home.
