Weekend Snaps: That Time Brady Swallowed A Sock

Highlights of the weekend:  making major process on our master bathroom (thank you Target), a clean puppy, delicious lasagna soup, an Amazon order placed (can't wait to read this and also picked up these!), cleaning out my closet and some pampering time with one of my favorite skin care products, Exfolikate.

Lowlights of the weekend:  the Dexter series finale - just, WHAT.  Terrible ending.  I realize we're a year and a half late but anyone else agree?  Oh, and Brady swallowed a sock (!!).

The guy loves him some socks.  They're the only thing that turn him into a mad man.  We keep them hidden but on Friday afternoon, he hit the jackpot and managed to get a hold of one of Nick's socks.  A lot of me chasing him in circles and bribing with treats ensued but to no avail.  Finally I used our ex-pen and set up a make shift gate to trap him and hallelujah - it worked!  I caught him and we had a two minute struggle in which I took a few paws/scratches to the face all while trying to pry his mouth open... when I heard GULP.  He swallowed the sock whole.

I started panicking.  After calling Nick, our vet and consulting Google (of course), we headed over to the emergency animal hospital ASAP to induce vomiting before the sock started digesting.  Luckily this story has a happy ending as the poor guy threw the sock up on the first try!

He was pretty loopy the rest of the afternoon thanks to the drugs so needless to say, we had to cancel our plans for that night and stick at home with him to make sure he didn't have a bad reaction.  I'm happy to report he was back to grabbing the dish towel off our counter within a few hours so he's going to be just fine ;) If only this was a lesson learned but I highly doubt this will be our last emergency vet trip...

The rest of the weekend was the same as usual - house work, lots of good eating and just hanging out.  I'm wrapping my Sunday up at the moment in my ugliest comfiest pajamas while Nick is at hockey and binge eating chocolate peanut butter gelato.  Life is good.

Hope you had a great weekend, too!

  1. Glad to hear Brady is ok. Our three dogs make it a mission to get anything they can(the recently stole a rotisserie chicken off the middle of the counter(mind you-we have little dogs) and managed to eat everything-bones and all. Needless to say, I was not paying for 3 emergency vet visits-so we waited it out and they were good as new a few hrs later. I've learned to use the vet as a last resort now:). With that being said-my house is as dog proof as you can get and the three make a very good stealth team!

Can't wait to see your finished room!!

And I am way early in posting a response. Working night shift and saw your post go up!

  6. You have been such an excellent pupper-momma to that mischievous adorable little guy! I still can't believe he swallowed a whole sock, I'm not sure how that's appetizing lol. So glad he's ok *hugs*.

  8. I want to see all your fab Target finds! Glad to know I'm not the only one working on the master bedroom. :) Poor Brady - Finn is obsessed with socks, too, but luckily he's never swallowed one whole. Sounds like you have a rebellious teenager on your hands!

  9. LOVE bedroom progress! I was working on the same thing this weekend.

Ugh.... the ending of Dexter. I will never forget my disappointment watching that finale! They really should make a movie and wrap everything up better!

  10. My dog still tries to eat socks (at 15 years old!) and was successful a couple years ago and we had to take him in to have (an incredibly expensive) surgery! It was so scary. Glad Brady is ok though! Oh gosh the Dexter finale - I was definitely crying and hating it at the same time. I heard the writers wanted to end it a different way. I feel you on that one though! Can't wait to see your Target goodies!

  11. Glad the pup is doing better! Love that gelato. It is amazing!

  12. Oh no! Glad Brady is OK! My dog has always been a sock thief, but thankfully has never shown a desire to eat anything. She doesn't even eat food until she's thoroughly inspected it to make sure it's up to her standards lol I dog sit a pup though that swallowed a rock once. It wasn't while I was looking after him thank goodness or I would have freaked out! I watched every episode of Dexter right up until the end. I found out what happened and so I just never watched it! I probably should, but I know it will bum me out, so I refuse.

  13. We have to take socks away from Harvey all the time... he tears them out one thread at a time. I can imagine those small threads wrapping around his insides!!!
Our lab used to eat socks all the time... luckily she'd throw them up on her own. Puppies are definitely a good trial run for small children :)

  16. I'm so glad your pup is doing ok, that must have been a scary moment!

I used to watch Dexter, but they lost me after the Trinity season. I didn't watch the finale, but I read a few recaps...sounds like they really dropped the ball.

  18. Brady is so adorable, but he likes to keep your life busy! ;-) Big Little Lies is on my to-read list, so you will have to share if you like it or not.

  19. I saw the sock incident of Insta, I'm so sorry!!! Good thing you were home to get him to the vet, but I know how pricey those trips can be. Eek!!!! Also, I loved BLL, and her other book What Alice Forgot was even better!

  20. Oh my gosh, I seriously cannot believe he swallowed a whole sock! haha Its funny to think about but I'm sure it was scary at the time.. so glad he is okay!! Target has been killing it with all of their home decor lately, I'm sure your bathroom looks so good!

  21. Oh no!!!!! Say what???? Wow he really tries to make things interesting for you right? I'm glad he is okay but a sock??? I got into some gelato this weekend as well. I think I'm just going to throw in the towel on this whole wedding diet thing......

  22. So glad Brady is okay! And yes, I am sooo with you about Dexter! I was not a big fan... I have this hope that he will come back someday haha

  23. That "Big Little Lies" book looks cool! I will have to check it out. I haven't ever heard of it before. P.s. gotta love a clean puppy. We're taking our oldest (5 year old Shih Tzu) for a good scrub and hair cut on Saturday.

  24. I just...HOW! haha! How did he possibly generate enough saliva to swallow an entire sock!! I have trouble swallowing regular sized pills WITH WATER!! It's seriously not funny at all, but I can't help trying to picture the situation! I'm so sorry you guys went through such a scare but I'm glad he's okay! Our cat has an obsession with socks too. He'll dig in the laundry basket or look for socks accidentally kicked under the bed and then I'll see him stealthily walking into the living room with it in his mouth. Then he brings them into the fireplace. I'm sure he has a major stash back there!

  25. oh my goodness - that is terrifying.. and slightly hilarious that he is obsessed with socks. hopefully he gets over it as he gets older!

  26. Poor pup! After a couple of bouts of my dog (when he was a puppy) eating stuff he wasn't supposed, my vet told me that we could induce vomiting at home with a couple teaspoons of peroxide... I don't know if it'd do the trick with a sock though, it worked well when a pan of brownies were eaten!!! -Dorrie @ Bear Den Plantation

  28. Oh my gosh, poor Brady but I'm dying over the mental image you painted here LOL I'm just glad all is ok!! Oh animals, never a dull moment huh.. I'm anxious to get home today, it's the first day we've left Harley cat out all day. The boy gets into everything, he's going to think his name is "HARLEY, NO!" haha. Gotta love them ;)

  30. Our little Brady's (ok mine is not so little anymore) look so much alike! Glad to hear he is ok after his scary experience! No doubt, scarier for you though. Your lasagna soup looks delish!

  31. oh my god how scary, I was dealing with a choking five year old this weekend too and it was not fun at all. I'm adding Big Little Lies to my reading list. I loved the Husbands Secret so i'm sure i'll love this

  32. Sweet Brady! I'm glad he's feeling better. I finished Dexter last fall and was PISSED! That is seriously how they chose to end one of the most plot twisting shows?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh my gosh- that Brady really is racking up those vet bills isn't he??? Glad to hear that he's okay!

  34. Ah the Dexter finale was terrible! Every TV series these days is ending with the protagonist as a lumberjack in the Northeast.

I hope Brady is feeling better!

  35. Oh, Brady! So glad he vomited it up! I remember our childhood dog Chip had something coming out of his butt and my mom pulled... and pulled some more... and out came an ENTIRE pair of white tights! They are crazy, those dogs!

  36. Dexter spoilers!!!

I agree, the ending was horrible. I hated that he lived. Even though I did like Dexter it's not fair that Deb had to die... Dexter and Hannah should have died (seriously Dex, Rita was way better than Hannah...I'm still mad that they killed her off too!! UGH!!!) and Deb should have lived taking care of Harrison. Great series, but... bad, bad ending. I still love it though (the show) and would recommend everyone to watch it!

  38. One of my best friend's pups loves socks too! Glad Brady is okay!

We started watching Dexter this summer and finished this fall and I am seriously missing him! After binge watching 7 seasons he felt like a part of the family, haha! I was definitely disappointed by the ending too--SO sad for Harrison and Hannah!

  39. I'm so glad Brady is okay! Crazy puppy! That lasagna soup looks awesome! I have made something similar to that, but come on anything with pasta, cheese and tomatoes how can you go wrong??
