Winter Fashion Blahs

This is about the time of year that I get real sick of winter.  The holidays are long past us and we still have a good two or three months until any real signs of spring show up.  It's cold, it's dark, it's just BLAH and my main goal in life is staying warm.  All I want to do is wear my leggings and an over-sized sweater every.single.day and besides, who can even see what I'm wearing under my giant North Face parka anyway?

But, I'm a big believe in the fact that getting dressed everyday (in a decently cute, put together outfit) makes you feel so much better about yourself.  A sequined cuffed sweater can make a dreary day a bright one and a pair of leather leggings can make you not even care about the freezing temperatures because at least you look good.

Here are a few pieces that are a must in your closet to help beat the winter blahs...

A Beautiful (Warm) Coat
I've had my eye on this one for quite a while, just patiently waiting for it to come back in stock.  Expensive, yes, but considering that we wear coats here in the Midwest 50% of the year, it will more than pay for itself in cost per wear!

Over The Knee Boots
Perfect for date night!  I have a major obsession with over the knee boots right now.  I don't own a pair because I'm still waiting to find the *perfect* ones, if they're out there.  This Sam Edelman pair might be it, although I'm kind of partial to lighter colors.

Blanket Scarves
Nothing new here but they're warm and they're cute so they're a winter staple.  I just ordered this one, from American Eagle of all places!  It's really reasonably priced and comes in a bunch of different colors.

Winter Whites
I love love love this look but still haven't taken the plunge myself.  Doesn't this look like the coziest sweater?  I need.  I like that it's not bright white - leave that to your white denim.

Anyone else just want to live in their yoga pants this time of year or is that just me?!  What's your favorite winter weather look?

  2. I seriously love all of this! And I'm definitely obsessed with over the knee boots. Those Sam Edleman ones are amazing. I have a black pair but now I really want taupe or gray.

  4. I'm sick of winter even here in FL, and longing for warmer temps and cuter clothes. I can't even imagine how you guys all feel where it's really cold....brrrr! This is why I shake my finger at everyone who's "over summer" and so ready for fall every year lol.

I absolutely love winter whites! So crisp and clean looking, I think I'll sport some tomorrow :)

  5. Ugh, I hate winter wardrobes. I mean the pieces you posted are gorgoues but I only have the blanket scarf in my closet. My spring/summer wardrobe is so much better and I miss all my cute clothes :(!

  7. You should totally take the plunge on winter white!! And I'm so with you on this blah winter.. I am so ready for spring (which so happens to include my birthday) and summers at the beach. So over the cold!!

  8. Ok, so lots of things on this post: 1. Winter blahs are the worst. 2. That J. Crew coat is pricey - but SO worth it. I have had a J. Crew coat since high school, and it's still my favorite coat. It's warm and has held up great. Definitely worth the cost per wear. 3. I am considering some knee high boats as we speak (not over the knee, but similar premise). They are taupe and I think I need them. They'll be on my blog tomorrow, in fact:) And finally, 4. Get that sweater. I bought a similar one from Gap earlier this year, and am still wearing it now at 26 weeks pregnant. You literally can't go wrong with it - whether you pair it with white pants, jeans or leggings. You def need it:)

    PS: I'm a horrible influence;)

  10. I have a pair of over the knee boots and I love them. I like them because they keep your legs warm when you're not wearing snow boots. Love the winter whites outfits, and the coat on the right is pretty too. Try not to let the winter fashion blahs get you down too!! :-)

  11. The struggle has been real as of late to get out of my sweatpants and sweatshirt - I mean, it's freezing out and if I'm not going anywhere, why do I have to get dressed?! Ha. :) I 100% agree with all your above choices - you need to take the plunge with wearing white jeans this time of year. I was so hesitant, but now I love it!

  12. Ugh, it has been terribly blah in Minnesota as of late. I am totally in love with all of your pics! I definitely think you need to splurge on the J Crew coat, you will not be disappointed. I have had one for years and am over the moon in love with it still today. PS: Totally love that AE scarf... I may have to pick that up for myself. Totally agree that dressing up makes you feel a million times better though!

  14. Ugh I'm so sick of winter! It doesn't help that my winter wardrobe has been diminished to about 5 outfits due to this pregnancy. I love that grey coat and need to add some more scarves to my collection! Love your picks. :)

  17. I love the over the knee boots! It's true... the few times I have 'dressed up' this winter, I've felt so much better about myself! It's hard to do when it's so frigid out!

  19. I am seriously dreaming about sundresses. My poor closet is just covered in sweaters that I'm sick of. New, fun scarfs at least help mix it up a little bit.

  20. American Eagle had some good scarfs this year! I considered buying one before I found the Target scarf. And I love that silver (ish) looking sweater but I'm always afraid to try the winter white look!

  23. I love all these looks! Favorite after-work/weekend look: T-shirt, yoga pants, and a big chunky cardigan. Totally nothing special but it gets the comfort job done ha.

  24. Loving that sparkly white sweater on the left... gorgeous! Sweaters are at least one little perk of these freezing cold months. :)
