Airplane Travel Outfit

What to wear while traveling has always been a struggle for me, especially when traveling to a destination that is on the opposite end of the temperature spectrum like this past vacation.  How do I go from 25 degree, snowy weather to 80 degrees without freezing before leaving and dying of heat once I arrive, while still looking put together but decently comfy?  It's a tall order but I think I finally nailed the perfect outfit on our trip to Clearwater.  The biggest key is LAYERS - all of the layers.

The base of this outfit is the white tank top and the white jeans.  You can easily strip down to just this when you arrive to your warm weather destination.

A neutral sweater is essential for easy layering.

To top off the layers, a jean jacket.  My jean jacket is easily the most worn item in my closet.  I bought one from Old Navy maybe five years ago and I wear the thing to death.

So remember my big tote debate?  I ordered the J Crew downing bag but really didn't love it when it came in.  I ended up returning it and going with the Cuyana tote and couldn't be happier!  It's perfect to throw everything in while traveling.

Converse are great traveling shoes because they're pretty easy on/easy off and comfortable if you find yourself running to catch your plane!

I'm always freezing, especially while flying and so I like to bring my huge blanket scarf in my bag to keep warm.  Still loving this one from Amazon for only $10 - such a great deal.

And as for accessories, sunglasses because obviously.  I always go with cheap ones since I break or lose them so easily!  These faux diamond studs are simple and pretty and I always like to wear my watch while flying because I turn my phone off and it drives me crazy if I don't know what time it is.

Anything I missed or could improve on?  Only two months til I'm off on my next trip :)

  2. This outfit is perfect for traveling! I'm getting chills just thinking about how cold the Atlanta airport was on our honeymoon layover. MISERABLE. This outfit is perfect for the bipolar weather that is spring in the Midwest too!

  4. Perfect travel outfit, except for me I like to wear something looser fitting than jeans so I don't feel constricted (as jeans always do) while sitting on a plane. My husband always dresses for the warmer climate and looks at me like I'm crazy when I'm bundled up in layers. He'll rock his shorts and no jacket without a problem, even when we're flying up north when it's cold :-P

Where are you headed in 3 months?

  5. Great outfit, lady! I always travel with my blanket scarf too, it's the best when I'm cold and can be a pillow in a pinch. It also just looks so put together too. I hate not being comfy on a plan so I"ve been living in leggings recently!

  10. Very cute outfit! When we went to Singapore (its hot there year round) I dressed in layers and brought a scarf. The scarf was my lifesaver because the plain was freezing at times. Then we got to Singapore and I was like umm shorts asap. Haha. Thanks for sharing and I hope that you have a lovely day! :-)

  11. This is the perfect travel outfit! You're right - layers are the key to getting it right. I love packing an oversized scarf, too to use as a blanket if I'm cold on the plane. Where are you headed next?!

  14. I love traveling with a large blanket scarf like that because it easily turns into a make shift pillow ;-)

  19. I am so with you, traveling is such a fashion nightmare for me. I always like to be casual, but my last boss always used to wear a blazer when we flew for work, so I always felt weird not being dressed up too (as you can imagine, it was the worst haha). I love your layering idea, and I just need to remember to make room in my carry on - I always seem to pack that to the top lol!

  21. I'm the same, and I'm cold no matter what! Like I barely wear shorts in the summer unless we're going to be outside only haha. Jean jackets & cardigans are musts for me.

  22. I almost always wear my biggest bulkiest shoes when I travel to make sure I leave some room in the suitcase, so in the winter that's leggings and boots. in the summer that's zippy wedges! I agree though, all about those layers!

  26. Yesss to layers! I love that entire outfit- especially the sunglasses! I got a cheap pair that I love from F21, but they're oddly heavy and hurt my ears and nose if I wear them for more than like 5 minutes, so annoying :(
