Wanderlust: USA Edition

I love traveling and am constantly planning my next vacation.  The day I get home from one trip, I'm thinking about the next.

I've been lucky enough to visit half of the 50 states so far and one of my bucket list goals is to get to every single one.  But when it comes to overseas travel?  I haven't been anywhere.  Just Canada, Mexico and a couple Caribbean islands.  There are so many places I want to see all over the world but I always run into the same "problem".  Every time I start to think about planning an overseas trip (like possibly visiting Paris/London this fall), I tend to get distracted with another awesome idea (now I'm thinking a Pacific Coast Highway road trip) and we stay in the good ole U.S. of A.  There are just so many amazing things to see right here at home that I haven't felt a super strong desire to leave yet!  Anyone else know what I'm saying?

Here are a few places in the great 50 states I haven't been to that I can't wait to visit, in no particular order...

1.  Aspen, Colorado

2.  Dallas, Texas (really anywhere in TX!)

3.  Savannah, Georgia

4.  Cape Cod, Massachusetts

5.  Grand Canyon National Park

6.  Washington DC

7.  San Francisco, California

8.  Seattle, Washington

9.  Key West, Florida

10.  Alaska

Where have you been and where do you want to visit next within the U.S.?   Anyone want to plan a summer vaca?!

  1. Nice list! Here are some of my suggestions... Having lived all over the country, I am somewhat well traveled! Washington DC in the spring (when cherry blossoms are in bloom), San Francisco in the early fall (September is best). Seattle in summer, and I would love to give your recommendations since I lived there for 5 years! And instead of Grand Canyon I would push for Glacier National Park!

  2. Thats a great list but you should definitely come and visit London and Paris! I love Paris and am so lucky it's only an hours flight from the UK. I used to live in London, if you make it over give me a shout and I'll show you around! I have a USA bucket list, having only been to Florida (I say only I've been three times) and Maine x

  3. Yay Key West!!! :) I really want to go to Savannah, The Grand Canyon and Seattle too! I've heard they're all wonderful cities to visit! And sadly, I think Savannah is only like 4 hours from my house yet I've still never been haha!

  4. I also want to go to Savannah! It's so funny seeing people's travel lists and seeing places like San Francisco and Cape Cod, since they're both places I've live(d) very close to and are just a quick drive haha. But Chicago is on my travel list!

  5. Well on your way to the cape you obviously have to stop by to see me! You'll love Savannah because of how similar it is to Charleston!!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  6. DC is beautiful in the Spring and Fall, skip the summer though its way too hot! We just knocked Savannah off of our list and it was beautiful, a lot like Charleston like Biana said. I personally think we need to get a group of bloggers together for a Napa/Sonoma trip. Any takers? :)

  7. Great list! I'm usually trying to plan our next international getaway because I always feel that trips within the U.S. are much pricier and are more easily accessible. But after hitting up Chicago last year, I'm back on a U.S. cities kick! Next up, I'd like to see San Francisco tied in with wine country, Seattle, Denver for a Rockies game and brewery tour, and of course Hawaii :)

  8. I'm first on your list if you come to Dallas!!! I definitely want to go to the Florida Keys, Seattle, Portland, Maine, Vermont (for the Ben and Jerry's factory....), New Hampshire (to see where my hubs went to college), and basically anywhere else in the U.S. I haven't been!! ;)

I've heard amazing things about Aspen and Savannah, those are both on my list. And you know you need to get your rear to Alaska :)!

  11. I really want to make a trip up the New England coast. I've covered most of the southeast, but the west and north and uncharted territories for me.

  12. I have lived in Florida (Sarasota) for 15 years now and have yet to go to Key West! I am thinking about planning a trip there soon! I have an awful case of Wanderlust but more to travel overseas. I just love the foods, culture, and architecture over there!

  13. Yes I totally know what you mean! I've mostly only been in the Southeast US so there are so many places right here in the US that I would love to go!

  14. There really are so many places here to visit! Cape Cod during the Summer is the best and a Pacific Coast roadtrip from Seattle down is a great trip! Aspen is gorgeous all year! But traveling abroad is so great and easier to do pre-kids!

  27. I'm the same way as far as planning trips- it's always fun to have something to look forward to! I think a trip out west would be cool but I'm also dying to go to Europe. I think Ryan and I are going for our 1 year anniversary- we have decided that before the honeymoon lol :)

  28. While I'm partial to my home (New England/Cap Cod) and my current home (Lowcountry/Savannah), I'd say the first trip you definitely need to take is San Fran!! There is SO MUCH to do in that city!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I really want to get back to New Orleans. The food is so good! I'd like to see San Francisco too.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You should come to Austin! Much better than Dallas. :)

  37. You've got a great list! My hubby wants to do a Colorado trip sometime before kids - Denver, Aspen, Vail. I really want to visit Chicago, NYC and Boston (went there in 6th grade and would love to go back). A Cali road trip sounds amazing too!

    ReplyDelete
  38. The Cape is amazing!!!! I will gladly accompany you to the Keys anytime you want to go!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Nice list! Someday I want to go to Cape Cod!
I don't see Oklahoma on your list; though there isn't tons to do here! haha
We are going to South Padre Island (TX) for vacation this year--we rented a condo for a whole week and I can't wait!

  40. Great list! I would love to go to Seattle some day. I have been to D.C. a few times and it's a great city. There is a lot to see and do. Chris's parents live near Savannah and it's beautiful. Key West I remember going to when I was a kid, and San Francisco is one of my favorite cities. :-) I hope that you get to go to all of these cities!! I'm sure that you will. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I hope you make it to Dallas someday! Actually Austin is even better....have you been there? I haven't seen much of the NE...just NYC and DC so I'd like to visit more places up there. I also want to go to Charleston :)

  42. What a fun list!! Good choice with Key West (you must try their key lime pie on a stick), San Francisco (head to Ghirardelli square, Muir woods and Golden Gate bridge park), and Savannah (tour all the squares in the city). The Grand Canyon is amazing and so are many of the national parks out west - Tetons/Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Yellowstone, Bryce and Death Valley that are all amazing. I've always wanted to do an East coast driving tour, finish seeing some national parks, Washington DC in the Spring, Alaskan cruise and the UP of Michigan.

  43. I have been to many of these places. Key to a great weekend is just to get done what you want! I was in the Keys for a whirlwind trip, and I had no plan. I saw a lot, did a lot, ate a lot...drank a lot! So incredible. I'd love to go back with my husband so he can enjoy some key lime pie!

  44. Key West and a couple other small beaches in Florida are on my list. I'd also like to head up to Maine in the summer. I think it would be beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  45. We have a lot of similar places on our lists. Savannah and D.C. are just fabulous! I can't say enough good things about each. Key West is definitely on my list! xo

    ReplyDelete
  46. I really want to see Savannah and Aspen. I have also never gone to any beach cities as a romantic trip - only with family when I was younger, and once as a single twenty-year-old. I hope that my husband and I can go to Myrtle Beach, SC soon.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I completely agree, I love traveling outside of the U.S. but there are so many wonderful places to see here too! San Fran and Savannah are two great choices! Alaska is definitely on my list too! Xo, Stephanie
