Friday + Links

Hello, Friday!

I love a short week and this one was a good one.  We had a couple of 85 degree days (!!), I went on a few walks with a new friend and our 3 dogs in tow, played sand volleyball and did some shopping for my upcoming trip to Nashville.  That being said, I always am happy to see the weekend!  We're heading to my hometown for my step-sisters high school graduation festivities - what's on your agenda?

And of course, a few links from around the web this week...

+ The most delicious looking guacamole recipe from Cooking Classy.
+ So obsessed with this rug.  Trying to figure out where in my house I can put it because I need!
+ Self tanner that you apply... in the shower?  I'm very intrigued with this new St. Tropez product.
+ Going back and forth on whether I should order these wedges from the Nordstrom sale.. help a girl out!
+ I'm about to try my hand at gardening and loved this article on tips for growing strawberries (like a boss).
+ Jaclyn shares the easiest way to clean out your email inbox - because we all need help with that.
+ And one last Nordstrom sale find, a super cute tassel necklace for only $9!!!

Happy weekend!

A Week of Wear

I'm no fashionista - I know what looks good on me and what I feel good in and that's what I stick to - but I love reading these posts on other blogs.  What everyone is wearing during a normal week of normal stuff.  I thought I'd try my hand at a few outfit selfies and let me tell you, it is kind of hard.  You have to worry about the lighting, make sure the dog isn't laying on feet, hold your camera at seriously weird angles, take about fifty shots before you get one decent one (and decent as in 'good enough', not an actually quality photo) and let's not even get into what I'm supposed to be doing with my hands.

So here we go, don't have your hopes up and feel free to leave me any and all tips on how to improve these outfit selfies!

You know how much I love this top! // Jeans (on repeat, every day) // Flats, similar // Welcome mat

Let's be honest - with not working, this is what I'm wearing most days
Top // Athletic Capris // Shoes, very old and desperately in need of a new pair

THE comfiest sweater of all time (and on sale!) // Scarf (also on sale) // Leggings // Shoes // Bag

Sweater, similar // Shorts // Shoes are dv by Dolce Vita Figg sandal but are no where to be found online :(

Tank (want it in every color) // Necklace // Jeans // Shoes

Happy Thursday and cheers to being almost to our next weekend!

Summer Bucket List

Summertime and the livin's easy.

With Memorial Day weekend behind us, I consider summer to be officially here!  I'm so ready to get the fun under way- our first summer in the 'new' house, back in Michigan and with Brady boy.  Lots of good times to look forward to.

Last night, Nick and I made a 'bucket list' of things we want to do this summer... because we don't want to waste a moment.  Our list may be a bit aggressive considering the amount of wedding weekends we have to attend (SIX) but we're going to give it our best shot.
•Plant (and hopefully grow!) an herb garden
•Take Brady swimming
•Get ice cream at a popular local spot
•Spend a couple of days at Cedar Point - the roller coaster capital of the world
•Play golf
•Lots and lots of beach days
•Enjoy an afternoon on the patio at Bell's Brewery
•Visit the weekly farmers market
•Attend a Detroit Tigers game
•Christen our new meat smoker with a family BBQ
•Have a 'phone free' day
•Visit my grandparents up north Michigan

We REALLY wanted to add a trip to Charleston to our list because we had the best time ever last summer but I just don't think we can squeeze it in this year.

Also make sure to check out a few of my other ideas on my summer Pinterest board.  Here's to making the next three months full of lots of fun memories!  What's on your bucket list?

Memorial Day Weekend Snaps

The unofficial start to summer did not disappoint!  We had such a perfect weekend.  Seeing friends and family, multiple BBQ's, beautiful weather.. I couldn't be more excited for my favorite three months of the year to have arrived.  I'm going to keep this short and sweet today and just share a few snaps from the past few days.  Hope yours was a great weekend, too!

Ps.  I'm also sharing a few of my favorite summer beauty products over on Medicine and Manicures - check it out here :)

{Can't wait to be front porch bums all summer long!}

{Anyone know what these flowers are?  Googling "tall skinny purple flowers" isn't turning anything up for me...}

{Brady IS the baby whisperer.  He is seriously so sweet and gentle around kids, it's kind of amazing.}

{We've spent Memorial Day together up north Michigan since we were little kids!  It was fun to get together
for a BBQ with our own families this year.}

{Puppy in a box.  So cute.}

{The land of the free, because of the brave.  Thank you to all who have served!}

A Few Friday Randoms

We've had a super busy week over here!  Friday kind of came out of no where but I'm definitely not complaining about that.

+ Brady had a dental appointment this week where we found out he has Enamel Hypoplasia.  Over the last few months, we've noticed that 75% of his teeth are chipping really badly.  We took all hard toys away from him and he's never been a big chewer on things he shouldn't, but for some reason they kept getting worse.  I finally figured it might be a bigger problem than just his toys so we got him into the vet to figure out what is going on.

Basically, it's a birth defect that causes the enamel on the adult teeth to completely chip away, leaving his nerves almost exposed.   This makes it easier for bacteria to enter into his body and cause infection and his mouth is most likely in pain.  Not good and our vet recommended pulling almost HALF OF HIS TEETH OUT as soon as possible... which, ugh.  Our other option is to take him to a dental vet specialist about an hour and a half away that can try and save the teeth through bonding or caps.  Such a bummer and I feel so bad for the guy.

We have an appointment with this vet specialist coming up so hopefully we'll have a better idea of what we want to do after that.

+ On a happier note, the Nordstrom half yearly sale is here!!!  A few of my favorites include these Zella leggings mentioned in this post, two perfect summer dresses (pink and white), this Michael Kors watch and the prettiest Tory phone cover.

+ What are you all thinking of this season of The Bachelorette?  Although I was #teamkaitlyn, it was still pretty sad when Britt got sent home.  Hopefully we can never do this two bachelorette thing again.  It looks like it's going to be a pretty dramatic season (of course).

Whew, sorry that got so long.  I'll probably be MIA again today as Nick took the day off of work and also has Monday off so HELLO extra long weekend!  We have big plans including two BBQ's, finally finishing our dang bathroom and doing more yard work.  Good stuff.

Happy Friday!

Summer Sandals

Can you believe we've almost reached Memorial Day weekend?!  I honestly never thought it was going to come for a while - March and April were two extremely long, cold months.  But now that they're over and behind us, I'm so excited to say farewell to my winter boots and hello to pretty sandals.

So far I've already purchased these and LOVE them - they're the perfect neutral and the heel provides a bit of height without being uncomfortable - and there are quite a few more pairs I have my eye on.  I think these bad boys will be my next addition while they're still on sale...

Which ones are your favorite?

A "Relaxing" Weekend + Giveaway!

Since this was our last free weekend until 4th of July, I had all the intentions of making it a relaxing one.  But of course, that's about the opposite of what it ended up being.

Friday night was the only thing that was relaxing about this weekend.  Nick had a hockey game so I read and enjoyed the weather on our back porch  before having a 'spa night'.  It was pretty glorious actually - not to mention my skin was looking awesome the rest of the weekend thanks to this stuff.

Saturday brought the first farmers market of the season, shopping, cleaning and organizing the kitchen and doing the big seasonal closet switch-over.  Yay for shorts and goodbye sweaters!  Brady was quite the helper, obvs.

After Nick got home from hockey, we grabbed take-out and played in the yard with the dog until the sun went down.  It was perfect.  I kept saying a million times over this weekend "I'm so glad we moved."  Seriously, being able to enjoy a yard and a porch and all of that jazz - it's amazing after being in the city for so long and exactly why we left.

And then on Sunday, that home ownership happiness smacked me right in the face.  After church (where I finally broke out my leopard flats), we spent the ENTIRE DAY working in the yard - weeding, ripping out dead plants, laying down mulch.  And Brady did this while we worked.  The guy thinks every thing and every place is a bed just for him.

The weekend ended with BBQ bacon cheeseburgers - thank goodness weekend calories don't count - and the Mad Men series finale.  Tear.  Did anyone else watch?

Lastly, a couple of my favorite blogging friends and I are super excited to bring you a chloe + isabel giveaway!  Below you'll find a bit more about the brand and enter to win a pair of these gorgeous teeny tortoise stud earrings.  I'm obsessed, I'm thinking I'm going to need to order a pair for myself.  Good luck :)

1. Can you tell us a little about Chloe + Isabel?

The Chloe + Isabel Brand was inspired by a concept we call "The Friendship Philosophy" - the idea of two best friends with different personalities and styles, united by their passion for style and self-expression. Chloe and Isabel are names that represent the two personalities we see in our customers, our Merchandisers, and ourselves.

“Chloe” is a fearless fashionista, always in search of the season’s hottest trends, while “Isabel” appreciates, above all, timeless, beautifully-crafted pieces. Whether you're a Chloe, an Isabel, or a Chloe-bel (that's a bit of both!), we are a destination for all women!

2. What made you decide to start working with Chloe + Isabel?

I decided to start working with Chloe + Isabel because I'm not completely fulfilled in my current position and I was looking for another way to generate income and see where building a business would take me. I hosted an online party with my friend who is a merchandizer for Chloe + Isabel. My party did very well and I got free jewelry. I love fashion & jewelry so it just made sense.

3. What are your favorite pieces?

The c+i jewelry is awesome. Some of the really nice features are that all pieces are hypoallergenic, nickel-free, and lead safe. We offer a lifetime replacement and 30-day money back guarantee on every piece. From timeless to fashion-driven, our pieces start at just $18. They have a really unique concept called convertibles, where the pieces are multifunctional.

Some of my favorite pieces are Bouquet Rouge Double Pendant Necklace, Gilded Reeds Aventurine Long Pendant, Heirloom Tortoise Link Necklace, Color Code Crystal Bracelet, Starburst + Seed Pearl Long Pendant

4. What advice do you have to give to someone who is considering getting started in a venture like C + I?

Feel free to reach out to me! I would love to answer any questions you may have. I would definitely recommend this company and opportunity to anyone who is looking for a little more financial freedom and would also love a few new piece of lifetime guaranteed jewelry.

If you just want to purchase some beautiful jewelry, visit my boutique!

Can't Live Without It

Welcome to my first 'can't live without it' post!

There are lots of things that I can't live without... but this particular item is close to my heart and I mean that literally.  It's the most worn piece in my closet: my denim jacket.  I've owned mine for going on five years now and I'll keep it until it falls apart on me.  And then I'll buy a new one.

This jacket has the perfect fit - not too boxy like so many others but also not too fitted that it's uncomfortable.  I wear mine at least twice a week from spring thru fall and I can say that it goes with anything and everything.  But best of all?  It's under $30 and even on additional sale right now if you're looking to snag one (find it here).

You'll want it for chilly summer evenings, to throw on over sundresses to make them more appropriate for indoor wear and most definitely for traveling.  It makes for the perfect layering piece while en route and it's so versatile that you'll be able to pair it with anything else you may pack.

Travel outfit post here

All in all, it's a staple piece for sure.

On another note, I honestly can't believe it's Friday already.  This week flew by!  Nick has a hockey tournament here in town and Brady and I will just be doing our thing- eating, sleeping and going on walks.  This is my last weekend with zero plans until 4th of July weekend.  How insane is that?  Definitely going to be soaking up as much relaxation as possible!  Oh, and painting.  Have a good one!

The Bathroom Project (Or Not)

Remember that time I mentioned that we were wallpapering our bathroom?  Welp, it's still not done.  The wallpaper is here, Nick dismantled all of the plumbing fixtures a couple of weeks ago and the supplies have all been purchased... but I can't get myself motivated enough to start working.  Mostly because we need to paint first - we're wallpapering the top half of the walls and doing a chair rail and white paint on the bottom - and I am so over painting.

You know it's bad when these are the things I've done instead...

Argued with the insurance company over a doctors bill
Washed our duvet cover and pillows
Organized all of the pictures on my computer
Did some weeding in the front yard
Cleaned out my email inbox and unsubscribed to like 50 million newsletters
Changed my last name on my Delta Skymiles account (almost two years later...)
Washed my makeup brushes

Clearly I have issues because some of these things are much worse than painting.  Tell me how you get motivated... or at least say a prayer for me before Nick disowns me for leaving our only main floor bathroom out of order for almost a month.

Happy Thursday!

Sunless Tanning Tips & Tricks

Ahhh, the beginning of swimsuit season.  It's exhilarating and also terrifying.  We're so ready to ditch our winter bundles but we are also SO PALE.  Sunless tanning products are must haves for this time of year and while I shared my favorites last spring, I thought today was a great day to share my tips & tricks when it comes to a flawless fake tan.  After all, Memorial Day weekend is less than two weeks away and that's what I would consider the official start of summer!

+Before tanning, take a warm shower (to open up your pores) and exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!  Get all of that dead, dry skin off to allow your tanner to really soak into your skin.  This is my favorite exfoliator - cheap and from Target, win win.

+Make sure to use the correct application products.  My absolute favorite self tanner is the Tan Towels because they don't require any additional products but if you're using a mousse or a gel, I would recommend picking up an applicator mitt.  St. Tropez makes a great, reasonably priced one.

+If you run into any streaks or don't use a mitt and need to get residue off of your hands, baking soda is the solution.  Mix with warm water and gently rub into the area you would like to even out or remove the tanner from and then dab dry with a towel (that you don't mind getting dirty!).

+After application, be sure to let the tanner really dry.  You can use a blow dryer on your skin to speed up the process but I prefer to just wait 15 minutes before putting on any (dark) clothes.

+I also like to tan at night so that the tan can fully absorb into my skin before I'm out and about.  The next morning, I take a quick rinse of to get rid of any of that tanner smell.

+Use a really moisturizing lotion twice a day to make your tan last as long as possible.  I've been faithful to this lotion for years and years, it's the best.

+Once your tan is fading and/or starting to peel, use your exfoliator in the shower to remove it.  And then start the process all over again :)

What's your favorite sunless tanning product?

Weekending - A Day Late

Good morning!

Coming at you with my weekend recap a day late, thanks to a non-stop weekend and allergies that are seriously getting the best of me right now.  This picture of Brady prefering to nap during our walk than actually walk about sums up how I feel right now, too.

Despite the annoying pollen induced headaches, this weekend really was a great one.  Friday was our only downtime so we hung out at home- testing out our new grill, painting our nails (or that was just me) and catching up on the Shark Tank spin-off, Beyond the Tank.

Saturday was our crazy day.  We had lunch with Nick's family half way across the state, then booked it back home to meet with a sprinkler company and frantically clean the house before our dinner guests arrived.  This was our first 'official' dinner party with our new dining table and it was a success!  We had caprese salad, pretzel rolls with pimento cheese, sauteed green beans, grilled steaks and of course, the highlight - chocolate pie - followed by a late night of Catch Phrase and Cards Against Humanity.  And now I'm drooling.

Dining room work in progress

When I first woke up at 6:45 on Sunday morning to take a whining Brady outside, it was pouring rain and I knew there was no way we were making it to church.  Sometimes it's just too hard to get out of bed so we ended up sleeping in until 10am and it was pretty blissful.  We cleaned up from the night before, got ourselves ready and then it was on the road again - this time to my hometown to celebrate my dad's birthday.
We spent the day playing with the dog, checking out their new Home Goods, doing dinner with the whole fam all while taking zero pictures unfortunately.  I'm making a mental note to start taking more pictures so I don't just throw my used Instagram ones at you every Monday.  But anyway, it was a great way to end the weekend - even if we did pull into our driveway way past our normal Sunday night bedtime.

I'm off to pop some more aspirin and look into getting allergy shots again.  Happy Tuesday!

Friday's Five

Friday!  Yay.  Let's get right to it...

ONE | Chocolate Pie
We may be a tad over-booked this weekend: we are going out to brunch with Nick's family, hosting a dinner with friends at our house, having some sprinkler work done on our yard and going out to celebrate my dad's birthday.  Busy, busy but at least it's all fun stuff.  The thing I'm looking forward to the MOST?  Making my chocolate pie for dessert on Saturday... yummmm.

TWO | SheInside Floral Dress
Remember this gorgeous Goodnight Macaroon dress from my Wednesday post?  Amanda found the exact same dress for only $24 at SheInside!  I immediately bought it and can't wait for it to get here.

THREE | Hinge Neta Leather Wedge Sandal
Another purchase this week was these wedge sandals.  I love the baby heel and the neutral color - they'll go with everything this summer, even my new dress ;)

FOUR | Brady and the Invisible Fence
We've spent a lot of time in our yard this week thanks to the amazing weather and training Brady on his invisible fence.  He has only gotten shocked once and it was the saddest and most hilarious thing at the same time.  One shock was enough and he won't go anywhere near the boundary flags we have set up for him.  So far it's a success!

FIVE | Twitter
I suck at Twitter - I tend to forget I have it for days/weeks at a time but I really want to get better, as a way to connect more with you guys and to grow the blog.  I'd love if you followed me here @ktelizabethblog!

And that's all I've got for today.  Make sure to follow along on Instagram (and Twitter now, ha) for our crazy busy, fun weekend!

Favorite Home Decor Websites

One thing I miss most about Chicago?  The shopping.  As materialistic as that sounds, I loved having every single store you could imagine (sometimes even multiples) within driving distance.  When it comes to our new town, let's just say that the shopping is... lacking.

Especially lacking is home decor shopping.  We have a Target, TJ Maxx/Marshall's and World Market but that's about it.  I've been doing the majority of my decorating via online which isn't a bad thing - you can get lower prices and you don't have to worry about whether or not you can fit stuff in your car because they just deliver it right to the house, among other reasons.

I've compiled a list of my favorite sites to find reasonably priced, quality home decor - click through to browse. And don't forget to share your favorites in the comments below!

+Horchow  {Neiman Marcus decor site, can be pricey but they have amazing sales.  I just snagged this beaded mirror for our bathroom on super sale, thanks to Sara for the recommendation!}

+One Kings Lane & Joss and Main  {The two biggest flash sale sites - buy quick because nothing lasts long.}

+Pottery Barn  {While I've only made one home purchase from PB so far, I'm always drooling over everything in their catalogs.  A little on the pricier side but everything they sell is great.}

+Target  {Obviously, of course!  They have a HUGE selection online compared to what's in the stores.}

+Rugs USA  {The go-to spot for any and all rugs.  There are always having some sort of sale but hold out for the 70-75% off ones which is happening right now!}

+West Elm  {Half of my home purchases have been from West Elm - I'm a huge fan.  A more modern take on Pottery Barn, if you will.}

+Wayfair  {What can't you find on Wayfair?  They have literally everything, at all different price points.}

+Ballard Designs  {Traditional pieces and an amazing fabric selection - a great place to shop for anything upholstered.}

+Shades of Light  {If you need a new lighting fixture, make Shades of Light your first stop - and probably your only stop.  We love our entryway light fixture from them!}

+Serena & Lily  {Pretty would best describe their products.  Their bedding, pillows and art selection are the highlight.}

+Z Gallerie  {Glamorous accent pieces - my favorite being this mirror of course.}

+Crate & Barrel  {Started in Chicago, they combine classic lines with modern touches.  How gorgeous is this coffee table?}

+Furbish  {So may fun and girly accessories!  Lots of pink and gold, perfect for a bachelorette pad.}
