Sunburns, Invisible Fences and an Earthquake

...pretty much sums up our weekend.

The weather was AMAZING - our first 80 degree day since maybe September?  Basically forever.  Having spent almost the entire weekend working outside, we're sporting some pretty nice sunburns right now.  But it feels good, it feels like summer is finally here!

Friday we kept things low key with dinner at our favorite neighborhood restaurant (that we're basically becoming regulars at) and then back home to play outside with Brady and watch Sons of Anarchy.  We were in bed by 11pm - just how we like our Friday nights now.

Saturday started off with the exciting news of the royal baby (yay for a girl!) and then the sad news that my friend that was supposed to come to town came down with the stomach flu.  Since Nick and I were up early, we decided to go garage-saling and spend the day working around the house instead, checking things off my never ending 'to do' list.

First up was installing an invisible fence for Brady so Nick ran up to Home Depot to grab supplies while I stayed back at home to have a quick lunch.  I was sitting at our dining table when there was a huge rumble coming from the ground and our entire house started shaking like crazy.  Brady was totally spooked and barking his head off and I had no idea what to do or what was going on so I grabbed him and ran outside.  Come to find out, it was a 4.2 magnitude earthquake.  Nothing for you west coast people but totally unheard of in Michigan!

The rest of the day was spent on our hands and knees installing said fence while boss man Brady watched on.  That dog better be appreciative, the things we do for him ;)

Sunday was spent dismantling our bathroom to start painting and putting up wallpaper, training the guy to not get shocked every time he goes outside and eating way too many double chocolate muffins.  The usual.  Hope you all had a great weekend, too!

  2. How fun that you have spot that you're becoming regulars at! Bonus points if it's walking distance, especially during snowstorms?! Sounds like a fun weekend, and yay for the royal baby! Now if only we could get a name...

  5. I can't believe you guys had an earthquake, that's crazy! I've never experienced one, but I'm sure it's scary when you don't know what's going on. Boo for the stomach flu, hopefully your friend is feeling better and you guys can reschedule soon :)

And Brady is too stinkin' adorable relaxing and watching as you guys install is invisible fence. It's rough being a duggy isn't it?

  7. I felt the same way the first time I felt an earthquake (within the past two years) here in Oklahoma--it was so crazy! We have them periodically, but they are all pretty small. Can't wait to see the bathroom redesign!

  11. Yes to the fabulous weather! I'll be curious to hear what you think about the invisible fence. We opted not to install one for Finn because he does just fine on the big rope and stake that we put into the ground. I can't believe that you had an earthquake ... That's just craziness!

  12. Earthquakes are insane! I was at the epicenter of the one in VA a few years back, and it was pretty awful. Not only that, but we had a tornado cut power lines to our town the next night, and a hurricane two days later.

  16. So crazy y'all had an earthquake!! We've had a few here but I never noticed them so I don't think they were as bad. Can't believe you installed your own invisible fence?! We had one of those for my dog when I was growing up and it was so great.

  20. Sounds like a wonderful weekend. Isn't it amazing what some sunshine and warm weather will do for your mood? That tree is just beautiful and I'm sure you're loving being out in your yard. The invisible fence will be so nice once Brady gets used to it. Midwest earthquakes are the strangest. I felt some in Indiana and there was one not too far from us in Mississippi this weekend. Odd Spring weather :) Hope you have a wonderful week and can't wait to hear more about that bathroom wallpaper!!

  35. YAY for gorgeous weather! So happy for you! We are in the low 80's this week which is HEAVEN compared to our triple digits last week (too soon!! My pregnant body hates it, ha!) YIKES about the earth quake! That is crazy!!

  36. I've never experience an earthquake but I bet it was scary! I guess this is a little late now but we use a wireless containment system that you just plug up and it creates a radius around the box so you don't have to bury the wire. Hope Brady gets the hang of it soon though. I hate to see ours get shocked.
