The Bathroom Project (Or Not)

Amen.

Remember that time I mentioned that we were wallpapering our bathroom?  Welp, it's still not done.  The wallpaper is here, Nick dismantled all of the plumbing fixtures a couple of weeks ago and the supplies have all been purchased... but I can't get myself motivated enough to start working.  Mostly because we need to paint first - we're wallpapering the top half of the walls and doing a chair rail and white paint on the bottom - and I am so over painting.

You know it's bad when these are the things I've done instead...

Argued with the insurance company over a doctors bill
Washed our duvet cover and pillows
Organized all of the pictures on my computer
Did some weeding in the front yard
Cleaned out my email inbox and unsubscribed to like 50 million newsletters
Changed my last name on my Delta Skymiles account (almost two years later...)
Washed my makeup brushes

Clearly I have issues because some of these things are much worse than painting.  Tell me how you get motivated... or at least say a prayer for me before Nick disowns me for leaving our only main floor bathroom out of order for almost a month.

Happy Thursday!

  1. Sometimes I ban myself from certain things (ice cream, blogging, etc.) until the thing that I am putting off is done. Telling other people about the ban helps, so they will know if I cheated.

  2. But look at how much you did get done - I think it's a win and you'll get the bathroom done soon! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  3. Girl, I get being over house projects! Maybe you should plan a dinner party or something a few weeks out so that you basically HAVE to get it done by that time since you will have company? Good luck :) I can't wait to see it finished!!

  4. Yay for unsubscribing to so many unwanted emails, definitely something I need to do.

Honestly when it comes to projects like that, you just have to get up and start doing it. And once you start you look at everything and know you have to finish because you can't leave the huge mess :-P

  5. I don't blame you for the lack of motivation! haha. I get super excited about projects like than (though, I've never wallpapered) then when the time comes I'd rather do anything BUT that project. haha

  6. The list of things you've done instead made me laugh! Yeah...the procrastination is BAD if you'd rather deal with an insurance company. Or wash your makeup brushes. haha

  7. Ha, good luck with your motivation! I wish I had some to send you. I feel your pain.

  8. Oh how true that image is! The bathroom will get done eventually :) and you should be proud of all the other stuff you've accomplished in the mean time.

  10. I'm cracking up right now. I feel your pain! As much fun as home projects are and can be, finding the motivation to do them can be a different story. Maybe wait for a gloomy day when you're stuck inside and can't do anything else. :)

  12. I feel ya girl! Sometimes it is so hard to get on top of a project. Try making a day just for that project. Get rid of any distractions and turn on some music. Once you start seeing the progress it should help push you to move forward and get the project done. You can do it!!!

  15. LOL.... yeah, you sound like me. Also. Painting is the worst. And we need to do so much of it. and today, I just need a nap. And it's only 9:45.

  16. I get motivated by simply FORCING myself to do it! Lol. It's like a mental motivation speech, "Amber you're going to [insert task here] NOW!" And sometimes I give myself time limits, like, okay in 5 minutes I'll get up... or this task has to be done in 20 minutes so I can... Yeah. Haha. So no worries... I'm jealous all your computer photos are organized! That's been on my list for like, at least a year! I need to get on that ASAP. What was your process? Did you delete a ton? Was it hard to part with them?

  18. I'm with you on putting things off that I don't want to do! My apartment needs serious attention but I find any and everything to do before I do that!

  19. Getting motivated to start a project like that is so hard, especially when it is nice out. But it sounds like it is going to look amazing and being that it is a smaller space it may take less time than you're thinking! Either way, you will make it awesome :)

  20. haha i dont blame you...putting up wallpaper sounds terrible! but it also sounds like a two person job so nick cant get mad unless he helps you put it up ;) xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  22. No shame in feeling totally unmotivated! That is how I felt about chalk painting my chairs. I was all gung-ho and have painted one coat on one chair and they have been sitting in the garage for months. Whomp.

  23. Lol cleaning my makeup brushes and unsubscribing to news letters is a huge indicator that I DO NOT want to do something.

  24. It sounds like we've all been there haha. I think that you should do it when its rainy or gloomy outside. On a more positive note, you have been productive with other things!! :-)

  25. It is always hard to find motivation to complete house jobs but it does sound like you get a few important jobs done. I am sure once you finish the bathroom you will love it!

  26. Pretty sure I'd choose wallpapering over unsubscribing to e-newsletters - it's so easy to just keep hitting "delete" instead!

  27. I love that you've gotten so many random things done to avoid doing the wallpaper. I can totally relate! Calling to settle medical bills is rough so you must really want to avoid this project. Maybe you can give yourself some incentive like dinner at your favorite spot or a fun accessory you've been wanting when you get it done :) I can't wait to see the finished product. I'm sure it'll look amazing and I'll have wallpaper envy :)

  28. I know that feeling so well, you just wish that you could snap your fingers and magically the project was complete! You got this! Xo, Stephanie
