Our Guest Bedroom Decor Inspiration

Home decor/reveal posts have been few and far between here for one reason: I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to decorating.  I was buying things but nothing was really going together, I was just picking paint colors off the top of my head... I had no real "direction" for any room.  It has been kind of frustrating (first world problems, I know) having all rooms about 50% finished.

Until I came upon this blog post that changed everything.  Apparently I was doing things all wrong - no surprise there.  Instead of picking paint colors first, you're supposed to pick one fabric and build the room around that.  Well, I tried that with my guest bedroom and I have to say it really does work.  I was wanting to repaint the room but didn't know what color and then I stumbled upon these pillows in TJ Maxx (can't find anywhere online, boo) and it all just came together.  I picked a beautiful, clean white - Benjamin Moore's Chantilly Lace - for the walls so the focus could be on the accessories and chose other accent pieces to tie in with the colors in the pillows.  While I haven't bought much for the room yet, I at least finally know where I'm going with it and am super excited.  Here's what I'm thinking...

We inherited a matching black headboard (similar) and dresser from my family and will be keeping that.  I went with white bedding as I love how clean and crisp it is and provides a neutral backdrop for the room.  The rest I still have to buy.

I've been obsessed with this Marrakesh Shag rug (75% off right now!!!) for as long as I can remember and am so happy to finally have a room to use it in.  These Wisteria nightstands are the perfect size for the room but I think I'll change out the knob to black ones to tie into the other black furniture.

This gold gilded mirror is seriously gorgeous and will sit on the dresser.  The infamous Lulu & Georgia Audrey lamps will be on the nightstands. And while these aren't the exact pillows we have in our room, you can never go wrong with anything by Caitlin Wilson (flowers // spotted).  I also hope to pick up this chair for one of the corners and some other decor.

Ps.  What programs do you guys use to build collages like this?  I've always used Pic Monkey but it is. so. flippin. slow.  It takes me a good two hours to build one of these and most of the time, it crashes before I finish and have to start over.  I'm in desperate need of a better solution but have no idea what!

Happy hump day!

  1. For collages I use keynote (if you have an apple computer), but before that I was using power point! Both are pretty easy! Love those pillows!!!

  2. I almost bought that that rug and now I'm sad I didn't. Although I'm sure in my living room it would have gotten extremely dirty with my pup. Your guest bedroom definitely sounds like some place I'd like to stay! :)

  35. Love all of your picks and I'm sure this will come in handy when I paint and decorate a new place.. when that day comes! And I primarily use PicMonkey and sometimes Polyvore. I'm sure you could do lots of things in Photoshop but it's so damn expensive. I had a free trial and it was so hard to use- I just gave up!

  36. Love those pillows!! I can see how everything would come together nicely after finding gems like those. I've noticed that on decorating shows they often find a fabric/pillow/curtain/wallpaper and build the rest of the room around it. Glad to know it worked so well for you. I've decorated rooms around a rug that I loved and a painting that I loved. Those are my favorite rooms in my house.
