2015 Progress Report

I don't know if it's the fact that this weekend is AUGUST (what?) or the loss of Leslie - probably a combination of the two - but I've been thinking a lot about myself and my life this week.  Where I'm going, what I'm doing, how I feel about things.  Just taking stock, I guess.

One big thing that keeps crossing my mind are the 'goals' I set for myself for 2015.  To be honest, without looking up the list, I could have told you only one of them: to read more.  Other than that, I barely even remember what I wanted to accomplish this year which is so sad.  I think today - a little more than halfway through the year - is a great day to get back on track.  Because although 7 months are behind us, we still have 5 months to go so it's not too late!

ONE | House Crackdown
Oh you guys.  Yikes.  We haven't done ANYTHING on our house this entire summer.  We did do a bunch of things in the winter/spring but honestly, we were getting a bit burnt out and needed a break.  So that's what we've been doing and it has felt good.  We've decided that we're going to get back to business at the end of September when wedding season is over and I'm actually really excited about that.  Hopefully I'll have some rooms to finally feature - only one year later :)

TWO | Give Back
Fail #2.  So so so bad about this.  I need to set up a auto-payment like I had at our old church in Chicago or otherwise I forget.  Adding that to next weeks to do list!

THREE | Blogging
Other than this summer... I've been pretty happy with how blog things are going.  I still love being here every day so I'm considering this a win!

FOUR | Visit Europe
I'd buy a ticket tomorrow if it were up to me but unfortunately, I also need someone else's permission ;)  Nick is a work in progress but I'm hoping to get him there!  Probably not in 2015 but good chance for 2016.  Fingers crossed.  In the mean time, if anyone else wants to go to Europe with me, just let me know, ha!

FIVE | Print Pictures
I actually did this last week!  Yay!  I printed some of Brady but I have a lot more to go.  Where do people buy photo albums these days?

SIX | Be A Better Friend
This is one that I've really been making an effort at.  So many of my friends have huge life events happening this summer - from weddings to law graduation to babies - and I've tried my absolute best to be there in every way that I can.

SEVEN | Bye Bye Student Loans
Haha.  That is all.

EIGHT | Read More
I've been doing a TON of reading this summer!  Right now I'm in the middle of All the Light We Cannot See and loving it.

Definitely an eye opener to realize I'm majorly slacking on like 75% of my goals for this year!  So glad that it's not too late to get back on track. What about you guys?  How are you doing on your 2015 goals/resolutions/whatever you want to call thems?

  1. I'm totally down to go to Europe! :) Haha! I need to print some pictures too. My office is SO empty! I even have empty picture frames all around. So bad. It's definitely not too late to get on track!

  2. You have some great goals for the year! As far as the house stuff goes, it's ok to take a break--sometimes you need to, especially after you've done a ton. I know exactly how you feel!
One of my goals has been to be a better friend, too, and its definitely been worth it :)
I'd be up for a trip to Europe!!! :)

  3. The three disassembled, half painted rooms in our house totally understand where you are coming from!! We have to be intentional with our goals, but I didn't think you were doing to bad with this list! Don't be so hard on yourself :)

  4. I say let's go to Europe together next year - we wanted to go this year, but it just isn't working out with how many weddings and trips we had lol!!! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  5. I really need to be better about printing pictures -- I have so many new frames + old frames that need new pictures! It's hard to keep up with goals -- but it sounds like you have a pretty good handle on them :)

  7. Where do people buy photo albums these days is right?!! I've been meaning to make albums for a year and a half now from when we went to Europe. Which by the way, I will totally go with you I just don't know how to read maps, or speak other languages, and anything else useful when visiting another country. But I love to eat!

Also, I don't think I commented yesterday, but I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I did not follow her blog, but I took a look and she looked like a lovely person. It was such a reminder to enjoy life. xo.

  9. Euro trip, let's go NOW!!!!

But, seriously, sometimes we set such lofty goals and have all intentions of doing them and then life happens and that's okay. You'll get there when you need to get there, lady! I've been working on being a better friend too and it's fun to reap the rewards :)!

  14. I had some house projects I wanted to do but decided summer is for being outside & enjoying the warm weather haha, painting is for cold dark days ;)

  15. I totally think you can get back on track with these goals! I hear ya about the house stuff - we are doing little projects constantly, but I have yet to feel like anything is truly done (hence no updates from me, either!). For printing photos, have you ever considered just making a photo book from Shutterfly or Blurb? That's what I do at the end of every year as sort of a yearbook - it forces me to get all the photos from the year printed, and then they aren't lost! Also, I'll go to Europe with you in a heartbeat. Name the date. :)

  16. I love that you did a mid year progress report. It has inspired me to the same. Sometimes we get so caught up in the day to day life we forget our goals for the bigger picture.

Photo albums are Michael's and Joann's, good luck!

  17. I definitely need to refocus on my 2015 goals a little bit! Totally with you on the house projects. I've pretty much abandoned those until this fall/winter and then I'm going to really start working on those again!

  20. Oh man, I have been feeling the same way about my 2015 goals! Of course I started out the year really focused and slowly but surely lost my motivation. I more or less remember what I put on my goals list but I'm afraid to look at it because I KNOW most of them have been a fail so far, lol!

  21. You know, you took the words right out of my mouth! Every birthday I make a list of what I'm going to do for that year and well I haven't looked at it since who knows when. I guess I need to dig it up!

PS - I hear ya on the Europe trip. Not sure when we'll go either but its on my to-do!!

  22. Great goals!! I printed off a lot of pictures for my frames a few weeks ago and where are they… still in the envelope they came in. Ugh!! And I want to go to Europe too… Ryan and I are hoping to go for our 1 year anniversary (talk about planning ahead ha!).

  23. I always do good with my goals...for a week or two haha! I'd say you've definitely done well with your blog, you keep me coming back! :)

  24. Oh girl you already know I'd go to Europe with you in a heartbeat! We need to get that husband of yours bit by the travel bug and it needs to be a big bug :)

  25. Great job on the goals! Printing pictures is just such a hurdle in and of itself these days, I'm super impressed!

  26. good for you on reading more!
so does Nick not want to go to Europe, or does he not want to travel? KC was dragging his feet for like 4 years, so I took him on smaller trips - Vegas, NYC, then Australia. lol not so small, but because it was with family it kinda was. Baby steps, you know? Anyway, each trip he would be like 'oh yeah, this is fun!' lol.
and you all did SO much on the house when you first moved in, I think you deserved a break for sure!

  27. So, as far as pictures go, it might be easier to create photo books than actually print pictures and put them into albums. Have you thought of that? It actually might end up being cheaper that way too - not sure. I'm sure you could find some albums at places like Target or TJ Maxx, but I have noticed that they are getting harder and harder to find!

Sounds like you've made some good progress toward your goals! You've got plans to hit the rest of your goals, and 5 months left to do it. You go, girl!

  28. I've had a similar realization recently. I feel so burnt out because I'm trying to do too much and I feel like I'm not enjoying enough. Life is too short, right? I love your reflections and am totally up for a trip to Europe. I'm fighting a similar battle with DG... but I think I got it for 2016! xo

  29. I've slacked a bit on my goals as well :( but I'm trying and I think that's the most important that I'm at least making an effort to maintain them. Although I don't know if it's Sophie being older or just this summer but I feel so burned out lately, hard to keep up with blogging and my own life.

  30. Pick me! I'll go to Europe with you! ;)

Also, it's so good that you are able to be there for your friends while they are going through so many big life changes. That's awesome!

  31. Being able to spend time and celebrate with your dearest friends is the best! Europe would be fabulous! Xo, Stephanie
