4th of July Fun

My weekend recap coming to you way late because I just couldn't bring myself to admit that it was actually over.

This summer is pretty nuts for us.  It's full of weddings, showers, bachelorette parties, etc. - literally almost every weekend is devoted to celebrating our friends.  And of course we are having a blast doing that, but 4th of July was one of our only two weekends the entire summer that we could do whatever we wanted so we were pretty pumped.  Thank the Lord the weather did not disappoint and we were able to cram in every fun activity we wanted to do!

Nick had off of work on Friday so his parents came into town for a BBQ and we all went golfing.  I'm dying to learn how to golf - golf courses are just so relaxing and peaceful and pretty.  Plus you get to wear cute outfits.  I was able to shoot a few balls and it was a blast but let's just say I'm a work in progress.  Afterwards, we grilled brats back at the house and had a campfire during which I acquired about 45 mosquito bites.  It's not a successful 4th of July without mosquito bites everywhere, even your butt, right?

Saturday morning we took Brady to a little lake here in town and hiked around it.  4 miles was the best way to kick off a day that pretty much revolves around food!  Our friends also dropped off their pup, Remy, for us to watch for the night.  We were supposed to watch her all weekend but their plans changed unfortunately so Brady only got his playmate for one night instead.  After we let the dogs run wild outside, we headed to our next door neighbors BBQ and stuffed ourselves silly.  We ended the night with fireworks and friends!

On Sunday, we were up bright and early to head to Chicago!  We dropped the pups off at our friends house and hit the road at 9 am.  Since it was a work night and we didn't want to impose on friends, we decided to get a room at the Kinzie Hotel and I can't recommend it enough.  Really reasonably priced, it's just been completely updated and is right in the middle of everything.

We had lunch at Big Bowl, one of our favorite places ever, and then did a bit of shopping on Michigan Ave.  Our favorite stop was the new Dylans Candy Bar - oh.my.gosh.  Thank goodness I don't live there anymore or I'd be at that place all the time.  It was so cool and we definitely stocked up on all things sugar!

We met up with a bunch of our friends around 4 and set off on a mini bar crawl.  Hence why the pictures ended ;)  It was a really fun night and so great to see everyone and just be back in the city.

Monday we slept in, hit up the cupcake ATM, did more shopping (picked up one of the best candles ever and these cuties), ate at another favorite restaurant, Greek Islands, and headed home to our pup.  Who actually swallowed another sock while we were gone - yes, he did.  Thank goodness for hydrogen peroxide.

SUCH a great weekend for us and I hope all of yours were as well!  Only two days til the next one :)

  8. Weekends where you have no real plans are the best sometimes! That s'more looks so good (and your nails are so pretty!), what a fun weekend in Chicago! I'm sure it was so nice to hit up all of your favorite places again!

  9. Hooray for such a fun weekend! I hear ya about every weekend being booked up this summer - it's the exact same situation for Ryan and I, especially since all our weekends are cut in half anyways because of his work schedule. Such is life, I suppose! I had no idea that Dylan's Candy Bar opened in Chicago - that definitely would be dangerous to live by!

  10. Those s'mores had my mouth watering all weekend! And hell yes to golf! I really want to take lessons and get better, but for now I can at least (barely) make my way around the course! I have far too many golf skirts for how little I play!

  11. Looks like such a great weekend! Ha, we tried to make smores at our campsite, but there was no place to start a fire. We ended up having "dry" smores - definitely not as good. ;)

  16. Okay this whole weekend looks perfect! Every time I'm at the store I walk by the graham crackers and marshmallows and comment on how s'mores sound so good...but we have no where to make them! And trust me, I've tried the microwave route before, no good. And your doggie is just so pretty. Get him (him right?) in a catalog!! And Sprinkles!!!!! I used to go there every time I went downtown to shop! (we lived outside of chicago last year.) The German Chocolate cupcake..oh my god. Now I'm not going to stop thinking about s'mores and cupcakes all day.. THANKS! ;)

I was shrieking (I LOVE CUPCAKES) and had the best time...people probably thought I was crazy. Dylan's Candy Bar looks really cool...love all the bright colors! What a fun weekend for you :)

  26. I have walked by Dylan's Candy bar and looked at it from across the street. I'm afraid to go in there haha. Makes me happy that I don't live any where near it too!! I also thought that Greek Islands place was closed for some reason. I remember going there on one of my first dates with Chris and everything that I tried to order, they were out of!! Haha. It is a good place though. Next time you are here and if you are in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area let me know, maybe we can meet up! :-)
