Simple Ways to Improve Your Every Day

Maybe it's the beautiful weather, the fact that I (finally) have a few close friends here in town now or how busy we've been staying this summer, but I've come a LONG way in the 'happy' department since this post back in April.

I've made a genuine effort to focus on doing little things that help improve my day - or better yet, improve someone else's day - on the reg and it's made a world of difference.  Whether or not you're struggling with where you're at in life right now or not (we've all been there), here are ten ways I've found to make each day a little bit happier.  Give one of them a try today!

Get outside - go for a walk, garden or even just relax on the porch.
Buy fresh flowers.
Play fun music while getting ready for the day.
Compliment a stranger.
Make your bed first thing in the morning.
Put away the phone for 30 minutes.
Get a manicure.
Make a to-do list.
Stretch or meditate.
Read a daily devotional - I love She Reads Truth.
Tidy up your house before going to bed.
Drink a green juice.
Send a piece of snail mail to a friend.

What's your favorite pick me up?  Enjoy today!

  2. I like the idea of putting phones away. Fifteen years ago, we were all fine without constantly having a phone near us.

  10. I love this! Making my bed first thing, fresh flowers, and listening to music are huge feel-goods for me. Also, getting outside! I definitely get a little depressed during the winter months when I'm trapped inside the house so much.

  12. Love this happy little post. I am a religious bed maker. I feel like it makes the room so much cleaner and organized. And fresh flowers and manis always brighten my day!

  13. I've been stopping into Trader Joes and buying a cheap bouquet of flowers lately and it makes such difference! I feel like I'm really treating myself (and without calories which I usually treat myself with haha) and I love looking at them on the counter. What is is about flowers that makes us feel better instantly?! There has got to be some scientific study on that..I should look it up ;) Also YES make your bed!! That one is huge for me too!

  40. It is alllll about the little things when you are having some lows in the 'happy' department. DC has not been my favorite place to be, so I am constantly struggling with feeling a bit down and gloomy. I am going to keep your list at hand so I can try some of your pick-me-ups in addition to my own. One of my favorites is doing something creative- go to a paint your own pottery studio, or buy some watercolors at the grocery store and just have fun. It helps me forget about whatever has me down and gets my creative mindset working a bit better! SO glad to hear you are feeling more settled though. That has to be a wonderful feeling!
