Adopted Grandparents, Books and Colorado (!!)

Hallelujah, it's Friday!  This week actually went super quickly.  I spent the first couple of days recovering from last weekends wedding festivities, and after that we were pretty busy.  But I am seriously so excited for this particular Friday because we are staying H-O-M-E, all weekend long!  I really savor these weekends with how busy we are this summer.  On the books: the beach, ice cream, sleeping in, grilling.  Gah, I can't wait.

Oh, and are those not the most amazing shoes above?   They literally have 'sexy thing' in their name, and I couldn't agree more.

Here's what we were up to this week...

+ My 'adopted' grandma, Carol, was in Michigan this week, and we were able to grab lunch on Tuesday.  We met Carol and her husband Dwight about 12 years ago, when we used to camp up north all summer.  We've stayed in close touch with them and make sure to get together whenever they're visiting from Arizona!

Fun side story: we actually met them because as kids, we were obsessed with their dog, Brandi who was a Golden Retriever.  We would walk her and play with her all day long, and that's when I fell in love with this breed.  I knew a Golden was the only type of dog I wanted when we started talking about getting one!  Best decision ever :)

+ I'm working my way through my summer reading list.  I just finished All the Light We Cannot See and LOVED it, probably more than any book I've read in a really long time.  It was so well written and despite having zero in common with the characters, I truly connected with them all.  I was so sad when I finished the book because I just didn't want the story to end.  I've already started onto What Alice Forgot and it's a much lighter, different read but I'm enjoying it as well.

+ This has nothing to do with what I did this week, but I want these shoes.  So cute.  And for that price, I'd like them in both colors.

+ We officially booked our Colorado skiing trip for winter 2016!  We're heading to Breckenridge and Denver for 5 days - give me all of your recommendations!

+ I went to my first Junior League prospective member event this week... and I think I'm going to join.  I know SO many of you are JL members, have you had good experiences?  I'm kind of excited about what I've heard so far!

Aaaand that's a wrap.  Have a fabulous weekend - see you here on Monday!

  1. You should have booked a Park City ski baca instead!!! ;-) And I always wanted to join Junior League but then I became a mom and got immersed in things more central to parenting. I would to hear more about JL if you join!

  3. Woohoo for a chill weekend at home. That's on our docket too, we need one after all our fun this summer. Those shoes are super gorgeous, love them, need them. What a cute story about your adopted grandparents, glad you were able to do some catch up.

HOOORAY for a ski trip in Breck and Denver. I was JUST there in July and it is amazing, just amazing. I laid out most of our favorite places here [http://pinkypersistence.blogspot.com/2015/07/rocky-mountain-fiiiiiiiiive.html] but let me know if you have anymore questions. Breck is the CUTEST lil town, so fun, and Denver has some AMAZING food places.

JL has been on my radar for awhile, I just haven't taken the time to check it out. I've heard amazing things about it though!

    HAPPY FRIDAY, GORGEOUS! xoxo

  22. Aw, that's so neat about your 'adopted' grandparents. And how Brady came to be ;) I was a JL member and ended up good terms (fulfilled all obligations) if I want to return, but our chapter is 1,000+(!!) members and I never saw the same face twice, so getting to meet new people was difficult. Go you and trying JL for yourself! The volunteer opportunities are fantastic. Happy weekend, girl!

  25. Skiing in Colorado?!? That sounds ahh-mazing. That is a state I really want to visit sometime soon, it looks so beautiful. And what IS junior league exactly? I've heard of it before but didn't know what they actually do... let me know!

  26. Darling shoes (and flowers, too, that photo is just so happy). Thinking about JL for next year but ours starts in the spring...

  27. Oh I'm jealous of your locations for skiing - Colorado is my 2nd home. When are you going, I have a lot of suggestions for you!

As for JL, my cousin is the secretary for the chapter here and while she likes it, she warns of the girl drama so to speak that comes about with any group so as long as you don't get yourself wrapped up in that, you should have a good time

  28. 5th year active in Junior League here (as you already know).... I don't have girl drama problems; probably because I focus on community placements, rather than in-league.... but I have friends who love their in-league placements... SO DO IT!!! :) YAY for an amazing ski trip!!

  29. OK i'm ordering that book you're the second person in two days to mention it. Do JL - you'll meet tons of new friends. And Colorado - girl, I have so many suggestions for you but I'll leave you with two: Breck: Two Rivers Bistro is my most favorite date night spot of all time. And Denver: Rioja in Larimer Square. Amazing.
