Friday's Five 9/11

Happy, happy Friday!

We had a good week - it went by super fast (yay), and all of my pumpkin soaps and candles have made their appearances around the house (double yay).  Definitely looking forward to the weekend though, we'll be heading to Detroit for a wedding!  Let's get right into the randomness...

ONE | Cooking & Baking
I was on a roll in the kitchen this week - I made risotto and apple cobbler for the first time and they both turned out so, so, so good.  The risotto recipe came from an awesome book I'm reading called Bread & Wine.  I'm only about halfway through so I'll share a full review when I'm finished, but spoiler alert: I love it.

TWO | Fall Dresses from Nordstrom
Since we have two more weddings this fall, I was searching online for dresses this week because we all know we can't wear repeats in the same year (girl code).  I tend to stick with Nordstrom thanks to their free, speedy shipping and the fact that I had a Nordstrom note to spend didn't hurt!

Anyway, there are SO MANY cute options for not only the wedding festivities, but also every day wear.  These all would look adorable with anything from gladiator sandals to chunky heels to booties.  And then throw on a floppy hat or a poncho and you're good to go!  I want them all!

BB Dakota Plaid Shirt Dress // Free People Emma's Embroidered Swing Dress // Lush Karly Shift Dress
Free People ZigZag Shift Dress (on sale!) // ASTR Cutout Back Dress // Wayf Button Front Shirt Dress

THREE | Pumpkin at Starbucks!
I'm not a huge coffee drinker - I don't handle caffeine well, haha - so I rarely indulge in a PSL... my solution is adding pumpkin to my chai tea lattes!  Delish.
PS: I'm actually at Starbucks right now and have been here for 3 hours and this guy has been passed out/snoring next to me the.entire.time.

FOUR | After School Boy Blazer
... is my faveeee fall nail polish.  It's the perfect dark, navy color.  I actually found mine at TJ Maxx last year, so keep your eye out for Essie polishes there!  They're only like $4.

FIVE | 14 Years Later
It's just insane to me that September 11, 2001 was 14 years ago already.  I still remember sitting in 7th grade math class, watching the news.  I didn't know what the big deal was - I thought the first plane crash was just a terrible accident - but after seeing the second plane hit, made me really worried and scared.  Our school made us turn off the TV's after that, but I remember going home and watching the news coverage all night with my parents.  Such a tragic, horrible day and I'm definitely saying a prayer for everyone that was involved, lost loved ones and for our country.

We also lost my grandma two years later on September 11th, 2003 so I always think about her today.  She was such a special lady - probably my favorite person when I was little :) - and I so wish we had  had more time together.

But on a happier note.. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  See you back here on Monday!

  5. Loving that first plaid dress option. So cute! Definitely want to try out that Essie navy polish - I think it would be great on toes!

And girl, I remember sitting in homeroom on 9/11 and thinking the SAME thing - that the first crash was an accident. But then the second one happened. Our teachers left the tvs on that day until school was excused, and we saw the buildings burning. I kept wondering how they were going to get water up there that high to stop the burning. And then the towers fell. Seems like yesterday.

  21. Well you officially made me realize I'm old - you were in 7th grade when this happened, I was a sophomore in college.

I'm not a fan of pumpkin unless its bread, to be honest so I'll let everyone else indulge :)

  22. Loving those dresses & that black jacket is adorable!! I was also in the 7th grade in my Language Arts class when the teachers were instructed to turn on the TV's where we watched the tragedy. I remember all the parents had to pick up the kids nobody was allowed to walk home and we were all just scared and confused. So crazy how even 14 years ago, everyone vividly remembers where and what they were doing.
