Friday's Five

I can't believe it's Friday again!  This week totally got away from me with trying to get ready for our guests that will be arriving tonight.  Working on the bathroom, guest room and cleaning the house - that's about what I've been up to!  We've also had some seriously beautiful weather so I tried to get out and take advantage of that as much as possible, I feel like we may have experienced our last 70 degree day of 2015, so sad :(  But that also means we're that much closer to the holidays!  The only reason that's only on my mind is because I may or may not have bought my first piece of Christmas decor this week... okay, I did.  And I love it.

On to my five on Friday...

ONE | Are you guys watching Code Black on CBS?  It's definitely my favorite new TV show this fall, I'm obsessed.  I've always been a big fan of medical dramas though so that's probably why I love it.  Does anyone remember ER from the 90's/2000's?  Netflix really needs to bring that one back!

TWO | I'm beyond bored with my usual lunch rotation.  I always either have some kind of sandwich (turkey, grilled cheese, caprese) or leftovers, but lately I've been wanting to mix it up instead.  What are your favorite lunches?

THREE | Now that we have our new couches, we are in desperate need of a new coffee table.  Nick wants a traditional wooden one, but I'm kind of leaning more towards an ottoman style.  Erin Gates from Elements of Style rounded up a bunch of them this week - see here.  This one is my personal favorite, but of course it's $$$.

FOUR | Tonight, our Junior League chapter is hosting a Soup Exchange.  We each bring 6 individual quarts of soup (I'm bringing this minestrone - SO GOOD) and then 1 serving is for tasting, 1 is to donate to an organization we work with and the other 4 get to be taken home by other ladies.  I'm excited to try some new soups - I guess I can eat those for lunch, haha.

FIVE | We scheduled our Christmas card photos for next Sunday!  I'm so excited and also slightly nervous as to how Brady is going to do.  I feel like he's going to be wild and all over the place - if anyone has any tips on how to reign pets in to get a good picture, feel free to throw them my way ;)

Happy, happy Friday!  Enjoy your weekends!

  2. THis week did seem to fly by didn't it? When guests come into town there never seems like enough time, but I bet everything ready and wonderful. I love the ottoman idea, been on my list for years for my first home. WHy do we always gravitate towards the $$$ ones.

Code Black is on my to watch list, glad to hear it's interesting. And your soup exchange sounds fabulous, have so much fun! Happy Friday, fabulous!

  4. I get bored with lunches too, so I try to change it up every week. I have some kind of salad everyday for lunch. This week it has been taco salad with ground turkey, avocado and salsa. Happy Friday! Have a great weekend! :)

  5. I've been searching the heck out of Pinterest for healthy recipes that take 30 minutes or less to make for lunch / dinner ideas! I've found some of my favorite recipes that way. Let me know if you want any of them and I'll email them to you! xo

  7. I'm with you in the lunch department. I don't go out for lunch everyday so it's usually sandwiches or leftovers for me as well. The soups could definitely be a good idea for lunch tho--and what a fun way to try out some new soups!
Hope you have a great weekend!!

  9. Lunch is so hard!! I always burn myself out on whatever I'm eating at that period of time but anything with too much effort? Forget about it! Basically I have no advice so...sorry :) I bought some Christmas decor this weekend to #noshame lol. Hope you have a great weekend with all of your friends!

  10. I have code black on my DVR but haven't started it yet. I love shows like that too, and ER was the best! Made you want to work there, ha!

  13. That Soup Exchange sounds so fun! And I'm with you on the lunch - I'm trying to get better about taking my lunch to work but I just run out of ideas. Yay for Christmas card pictures - can't wait to see. Have a fab weekend!

  14. If you go the ottoman route - get the ones that have storage! Ours doesn't and I kick myself all the time for getting one w/o storage.

  15. We looked at a ton of those tufted ottoman coffee tables but ended up going with something else. We found one at Arhaus furniture. I agree with Brittany though, getting one with storage is a good idea. My sister has one like that and it's nice. Eliminates the clutter. I eat leftovers for lunch especially if I'm working that day. Have fun at your soup exchange and good luck with your photo shoot!! :-)

  16. That ottoman is gorgeous! But dang... it IS expensive!!!! I like the girl above's idea about it having storage... you could put blankets in there in the summer and whatnot.
Can't wait to see how your Christmas card shoot goes!

  17. I've been on a soup kick for lunch now that the weather is starting to get cooler. There are so many soup recipes on pinterest! You can always make a big pot at the beginning of the week. I love your soup exchange idea for Junior League! And I love the tuffed ottoman idea! Just incase you are thinking about having kids, the tuffed one would be better for when they start to be mobile. We have a marble top coffee table that we ended up moving out of the family room bc I am too afraid he's going to hurt himself! :)

  18. im bored with my lunch too -- especially now that i dont eat lunch meat anymore (it still tastes weird after pregnancy!) so now i eat peanut butter banana sandwiches, meatless chicken patty's, mac n cheese, grilled cheese, and wraps with green peppers, onions and cheese. xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  19. Love the ottoman you linked. If you do go with West Elm, make sure you get at least 20% off. Looks like that's where it is now, but you might be able to combine something else with a new email signup. It's one of the places I'll never pay full price. Happy weekend and have fun with your guests!

  20. The previews for Code Black looked good, but I haven't watched it yet. I'm a big Grey's fan so I'm not sure I can handle any more medical shows haha. Love that ottoman! Coffee tables are so hard to agree on - my hubby likes big and functional ones and I'd prefer a pretty, tufted, functional one :) I always love having grilled chicken salads for lunch. Grill the chicken all at once and then just make a fresh salad each day. Switch up the dressing so it doesn't get boring :)

  21. I cant wait to see your Christmas card photos! I bet Brady will be so good. Our dogs were crazy during our photos but I thought later that I really should have brought treats and put them in my pocket to keep them focused. You could always try that!

  22. Wear him out before... don't let him take a nap.... you want his energy SPENT before that photo session. Take treats for the photographer to hold to get his attention.

  23. Omg I can't wait to see your Christmas photos!!!! When my in-laws were here last week I had them take a few pictures for us (like literally for two minutes outside lol) and all we did was yell "TED TED TED TREAT TREAT TREAT!!!" Haha. But it worked, I got the one I needed. He wouldn't have lasted much longer. I say just let Brady run wild lol I think that would be so funny.

  24. What was the Christmas decor item you brought? I'm so excited for the holiday decorations hitting the shelves. :)

I'm not watching Code Black but I loved ER. I love police/hospital shows. Are you planning to watch Chicago Med? It's a new series coming this Fall from the producer of Chicago Fire & Chicago PD. I watch both those shows and love them so much so I'm excited for the new show to premiere.

I hope you have fun at the Soup Exchange and I hope your Christmas photos come out lovely. :)

    Have a great weekend!

  26. Hooray for a soup exchange! How fun, the weather is perfect for it this weekend, too. :) Girl, we took our family photos early this week, and it was quite the challenge with Finn ... basically, just have a death grip on the leash at all time and constantly tell Brady to sit and stay - eventually, he'll get the point. Happy weekend!

  27. I am so boring when it comes to lunches - I literally eat the same basic thing every day but I love it. Sorry for being no help :/ Have so much fun tonight at the soup exchange! That sounds like a lot of fun! Also, have an amazing weekend with your guests!

  28. I've been loving to mix up a big greek quinoa salad each week and eating on it all week! Pasta salads are also yummy and keep well!

  29. I am all for the ottoman coffee table. We don't even use our traditional coffee table in our room it's so useless to us with a child around, and I'd much rather recline my feet on something comfy.

Lately I've been eating greek yogurt for lunch because I'm too lazy to cook a real meal. But I love having chicken, mac n cheese with broccoli. I know that's weird.

  30. I am the worst with lunch time! I usually just eat leftovers but it gets old fast. I am still trying to learn to cook the correct amount and not too much that we have to eat leftovers forever! Good luck with the Christmas photo! I am sure it will turn out really well!

  32. I so wish we were doing Christmas card photos! I keep trying to figure out how to do cards with ones we already have but we haven't had professional photos taken in a long time. Have a great weekend, Katie!

  33. I'm so with you in the lunch department! Soup sounds so good- especially this time of year! I've recently been making a taco salad and it's been hitting the spot! Have a great weekend!

  34. The soup exchange sounds like so much fun! I have been on a potato salad with applegate hotdog kick for lunches. I make a paleo friendly potato salad on Sunday night and it makes enough to last the four lunch days I eat in (a group always goes out on Fridays).

  35. I totally agree with you on the lunches thing. I have been taking left overs to work, but I'm so bored with that. I can't wait to hear how your soup exchange went! And I'm excited to see your Christmas cards! xo, Champagne&Suburbs

  36. Lunch is the hardest meal for me. I try to make a ton of salad to last a few days and then do open faced sandwiches everyday. And some days I just have to get take out ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I rotate between ham sandwiches and frozen meals. Not very exciting. But there are a few really good Smart Ones and Lean Cuisines. There are soups too. And I went on a single side Mac and cheese kick there for awhile too. :) Happy Weekend!

  43. I'm definitely a fan of soups for lunches! So that'll be nice to have a few new ones to try from the JL ladies. :) I'm so looking forward to seeing your family photos! I'm photographing a couple and their dog this weekend and I'm super excited about it! :)

  44. Now that it's cold as you know what, my favorite lunches are a bowl of thick soup like broccoli cheddar or chili and a nice roll. I also like tuna salad with a multi grain roll and a Greek yogurt. Yum.
