Pumpkins & Squirrels

We had SUCH a nice fall weekend here in Michigan!  The weather couldn't have been more perfect - 70 degrees and sunny, yes please - and we got in lots of good friend time.

The fun started on Friday night with our friend Chelsea's 30th birthday party at The Wine Loft downtown.  And for once, I actually remembered to document my outfit ;)

Top (on sale!) // Vest // Pants // Booties

After a few hours of wine/champagne/appetizers, we headed over to another bar that plays live music.  Nick and I attempted to take a selfie and this was about as good as it was getting!  I laugh out loud every time I look at this picture.  We called it a night around midnight since we had to be up bright & early the next morning for tailgating.

The next morning came very quickly after our Friday night fun.  Nothing a little Tylenol and recovery beers couldn't fix though ;)  We headed out for a breakfast tailgate on campus before the 12:00pm game.  WMU played Central Michigan, our arch rivals basically, which always makes for an eventful game day.
I don't even know what that face is...

And we won!  It ended up being a close game, but WMU pulled out a W with a 41-39 win.  We were seriously beat after the game and headed straight home for soup, college football on TV (Go Blue!) and naps.  Speaking of soup, I made this Minestrone Soup recipe this week and we've been eating it nonstop.  SO good and really easy, too!

One person in our house had no interest in napping and his name would be Brady.  He just discovered squirrels in the last couple of weeks and loves to sit and watch for them and when he sees one, runs between all of our front windows whining.  We think it's hilarious so sometimes we let him out to chase them because he's SO LOUD and not near as fast of them so he'd never catch one, right?

Wrongggg.  We let him out on Saturday to go out and play, but we didn't realize there were two baby squirrels in the yard.  He booked it right towards them and they couldn't get away fast enough and Brady caught one!!!  We freaked out and ran outside while he ran circles in the yard with this baby squirrel crying in his mouth (I almost cried, too) - thank the Lord he knows the 'drop it' and 'leave it' commands because after a few times of screaming that at him, he finally let the poor guy go and backed away from him.  The squirrel was totally fine other than covered in slobber and slightly traumatized, but we watched and made sure he was okay.  Honestly I think we were all slightly traumatized!

After that eventful evening, we decided to stick around home to relax and it was fabulous.  We watched the first two episodes of Lost and I think we might be hooked!

On Sunday morning, we went running (yay!) and then went to check out the local pumpkin farm/apple orchard/family fun place.  It was nutttts - it was such a nice day out so I think everyone else in town had the same idea we did.  There were lines to do everything, we couldn't even get our precious donuts because I swear the line would have taken up half of our day!

We did get to pick pumpkins, a gallon of cider and maneuver our way through the corn maze which was fun.

On our way home, we stopped at a furniture store because we desperately need a new couch.  Here are our two favorite options:  which do you like better?  I really can't decide but we need to today since it's the end of the Columbus Day sale.

The too fast weekend (aren't they all?) ended with a chili dinner at our neighbors house, sitting on the back porch enjoying the beautiful weather.  I never want it to leave!  How were your weekends?

  4. I loooove that beige couch! I would totally get that one as long as the cushions are easy to clean. We have a white couch and everyone told me I was crazy but I love it! It looks like you had the most perfect fall weekend! We love a good corn maze lol! Happy Monday, doll!

  7. Ahhhhh Brady and the squirrels! Roxy is like that if she sees a squirrel, but she usually ends up catching those little lizards that are everywhere *sigh*. Looks like a fun weekend - birthday fun, football, and fall activities <3

  10. Glad your squirrel story had a happy ending! I didn't realize that dogs were so interested in squirrels :) I love the first couch. We currently have a couch with several back pillows/cushions and it's hard to keep looking good. I think it would be nice to just have two cushions and change out the pillows to match your decor. Happy shopping :)

  13. Love all the festive things you got to do yesterday! And there's no better way to spend a Saturday than at a college football game. The win makes it even better!

  15. Looks like a great weekend - congrats on the win! My parents have a golden retreiver and they routinely get animal "presents" on their back porch. I always get nervous when we see bunnies in the back yard.

  16. Sounds like such a fun fall weekend! I love that fur vest so much! That's too funny/sad that Brady got ahold of a squirrel! He thought it was a toy :) So cute you guys went to a pumpkin farm!

  17. I like the gray couch, but I love using gray. :) Looks like such a fun weekend! Sad you didn't get your doughnuts, but waiting forever in line stinks.

  18. Oh my vote is for the 2nd couch. It is such a great neutral and you can dress it up with pillows and throws. Oh that story about the squirrel! I'm glad it is okay and Brady was a good boy who listened ;-)

That picture of you in the corn maze is my favorite!

  19. I can't believe Brady caught a squirrel! I would have been freaking out, so glad the little guy was alright! And I like both couches, I imagine the gray would stay cleaner looking though. We have a gray couch that Jamo thinks is his bed, but it's held up well over the past three years!

  20. What a fun weekend! Love your outfit on Friday night. What a traumatizing experience all around with the baby squirrel! Glad he's okay - good luck to Brody with the adult squirrels though. That pasta dish looks super delicious and we've thought of getting into LOST after finishing up The Office. Love your plaid shirt and the apple orchard looks like a blast!! Both of the couches look great but I'm leaning towards the 2nd one. Happy Monday!

  21. Oh no! I can't believe he got a baby squirrel! That would be traumatizing, but I'm glad the little baby was okay! I like the white couch but white is so hard with puppy hair everywhere! They're both cute! Let us know which one you chose:)

  22. The pumpkin/apple farm looks like a blast! Love the Friday night outfit too. I'll be checking those pieces out ASAP. We live in Ohio, so we probably have pretty similar weather. I was so thankful for such a gorgeous weekend! I'm sure there aren't too many left, so I was soaking it in!

  23. I like the 2nd one, it looks more comfy!!

  24. Oh my goodness- I'm glad baby squirrel was okay. I'm traumatized just reading that- ha! So glad your team won too- nothing better than a football and fall filled weekend :)

  25. Aww poor baby squirrel. Nice job training Brady though!! We still need to visit the pumpkin patch this year! Cute picture in the corn maze. :)I love the couches you picked. I think the first one is my fav. Good luck deciding!

  26. I love that first couch, something about the shape is just interesting :)! It looks like a ton of people decided to hit up the pumpkin/apple farms this weekend, the one by my house (Goebbert's) was absolutely jam packed with people!! OMG that's such a scary and traumatic event for that poor baby squirrel, but at least Brady listened and left the poor guy unharmed. That fur vest is adorable by the way :)!

  27. Ooh I really like both couches, but think I prefer the second one.

  28. I swear, picking out a couch is the most stressful but excited task ever! There are just too many options! But I think I like the second one best. This past weekend really was the perfect fall weather. We're in Northern Indiana so we got to experience the same weather as you! :)

  29. Love your selfie with your husband :) yall definitely were having a fun time that night. Well I am glad that Brady caught an animal, but I'm really glad that he let it go too

I feel like couch 1 would hide stains better but I really love the fact that couch 2 could hold more people, like they're three cushions for three people, instead of the awkward four people squishing onto two cushions. We have a couch similar to 1.

  39. Ok i LOVE your vest. So jealous that it is cool enough to wear it. It hasn't been cool enough here to break it out.

  40. I'm so glad you had a fun weekend! The pumpkin patch sounds like a great idea, which I guess is why everyone was there. lol.

I'm glad the squirrel was okay. My dogs used to go nuts chasing the squirrels. The squirrels got smart and stayed on the top of the fence and we would just run around the whole fence back and forth and the dogs would be on the ground barking and running whichever way the squirrels were running. It was pretty comical.

  41. I can't believe that Brady caught a baby squirrel! I probably would've been crying, too! He must be so fast - Finn recently has gotten into the squirrels, too, but he just sits at the bottom of the trees and looks up hoping one of them comes down to play. That soup looks delicious, and I like the second couch option with the three cushions - hope you guys picked one out!

  42. I love BOTH of those couches! Two great choices! I look forward to seeing which one you decided on. :)

I'm amazed that Brady dropped the baby squirrel. That would have freaked me out too!

And hooray for finding a pumpkin despite all the craziness!

  43. OK your weekend looks like the cutest and the absolute best fall weekend! Didn't know you were located around Kalamazoo! My best friend went there for college and for her masters! I grew up going to Michigan for our summers (White Lake--an hour north of Holland.) The corn maze looked like so much fun!
