Airplane Travel Outfit

What to wear while traveling has always been a struggle for me, especially when traveling to a destination that is on the opposite end of the temperature spectrum like this past vacation.  How do I go from 25 degree, snowy weather to 80 degrees without freezing before leaving and dying of heat once I arrive, while still looking put together but decently comfy?  It's a tall order but I think I finally nailed the perfect outfit on our trip to Clearwater.  The biggest key is LAYERS - all of the layers.

The base of this outfit is the white tank top and the white jeans.  You can easily strip down to just this when you arrive to your warm weather destination.

A neutral sweater is essential for easy layering.

To top off the layers, a jean jacket.  My jean jacket is easily the most worn item in my closet.  I bought one from Old Navy maybe five years ago and I wear the thing to death.

So remember my big tote debate?  I ordered the J Crew downing bag but really didn't love it when it came in.  I ended up returning it and going with the Cuyana tote and couldn't be happier!  It's perfect to throw everything in while traveling.

Converse are great traveling shoes because they're pretty easy on/easy off and comfortable if you find yourself running to catch your plane!

I'm always freezing, especially while flying and so I like to bring my huge blanket scarf in my bag to keep warm.  Still loving this one from Amazon for only $10 - such a great deal.

And as for accessories, sunglasses because obviously.  I always go with cheap ones since I break or lose them so easily!  These faux diamond studs are simple and pretty and I always like to wear my watch while flying because I turn my phone off and it drives me crazy if I don't know what time it is.

Anything I missed or could improve on?  Only two months til I'm off on my next trip :)

Clearwater Beach Spring Break

I'm back!

We had the very best time on our little spring break getaway last week.  Florida is my happy place and we had so much fun discovering a new beach city in Clearwater.  The weather was gorgeous, although it wasn't too hard to beat the freezing temps we were leaving behind!  It was around 80 degrees and sunny almost all week - except for one rainy morning which was the perfect excuse to do some shopping at the outlet mall :) - and we took full advantage of it.

Our hotel - the Hilton - was beachfront and we spent every possible second out on the beach.  Swimming, hanging out at Tommy's Tiki Bar, playing volleyball or watching the sunset... it was pretty great.  Thanks so much to Lindsay and Amanda for all of your recommendations - you guys were spot on!

A few pictures (all from my iPhone, sorry for the terrible quality!)...

...and highlights from the past week in Clearwater Beach.

Sunsets at Pier 60
Pina colada's at The Sandpearl beachfront bar
Anything at Clear Sky Cafe - we ate here twice for breakfast and lunch!  So good.
The view from Jimmy's Crow Nest rooftop
Red velvet ice cream at The Ice & Cream Creamery
A fancy dinner at The Beachcomber
Relaxing at Tommy's Tiki House
THE BEACH! :)

Hope you all had a great week, too - can't wait to get back to regular scheduled programming here on the blog!  Happy Monday!

And We're Off

...to Florida for our annual spring break trip!  We're leaving this weekend for a few days of fun in the sun in Clearwater Beach. Words can't express how excited I am for warmer temps, swimming, seafood, sleeping in, all of it.  We will miss our Brady boy (first time leaving him for more than one night!) but my family is coming down to stay with him so he'll be in good hands.  As long as they keep the socks away from him ;)

This is also our first time visiting this area of Florida so any restaurant or 'to do' recommendations are very welcome!  I'll be taking next week off from the blog and will be back on Monday, March 30th so make sure to follow along with our adventures on Instagram

Happy Friday!

Thursday Thoughts

After my facial last week, the esthetician sent me home with a few samples of Neocutis Lumiere Bio-Restorative eye cream (that's a mouthful).  I wasn't looking for a new eye cream since I've been happy with the one I have but after using the Neocutis for 8 days now, I am seriously blown away.  It's so moisturizing and is actually helping some of the fine lines that have started to pop up around my eyes.

Thanks to Kristina for this heads up - all of the swimsuits at American Eagle right now are buy the top, get the bottom free!  I picked up this one in green.

Nick and I are currently obsessed with Shark Tank.  We've been watching an episode almost every night before bed.  Also need to catch up on Southern Charm and get into Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - everyone seems to be loving it!

Our new dining table is being delivered today!!!  I was planning on going with the Carroll table from West Elm but after popping into a local furniture store one day, I fell in love with a different one.  Now I just need to find chairs - torn between these tufted ones and these nailhead ones.  Decisions, decisions.

We made Ashley's baked chicken chimichanga's for dinner last night and they were delicious.  Only thing we changed was adding in diced onion and jalapeno for some spice and crunch.  They've officially been added to our dinner rotation.

And that's all the randomness I've got for today!

My Favorite Neutral Lipglosses

A little 'makeup rule' I've heard is that you should play up either your eyes or lips, but not both at the same time.  Since I tend to prefer to accentuate my eyes (bring on the mascara), I like to stick to a neutral shade on my lips.  Here are my five tried and true, favorite neutral lip glosses:

Buxom (White Russian) - A very nude pink that also provides a tingling, lip plumbing sensation.
NARS (Orgasm) - This is a light pink with a hint of gold shimmer, perfect to use on a tropical vacation to accentuate a tan.
Bare Minerals Moxie (Spark Plug) - Very hydrating and made with all natural ingredients, it's my most favorite lip product.
NYX Butter Gloss (Tiramisu) - This gloss provides medium coverage so I like to use it for nights out.  You can't beat NYX prices!
Benefit (Sugarbomb) - Another shimmering gloss that's never sticky and actually has a pretty great flavor, too.

Do you have a signature lip color?

Green Juice

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  In the spirit of all things green, I bring you my favorite green juice recipe.  Drink it in place of green beer while you're at work today -- or use it as a detox for afterwards :)

INGREDIENTS
1 cucumber
2 apples
4 celery stalks
6 kale leaves
1/2 lemon

And because I'm a ginger freak, I like to add in a dash of that, too.  Just throw all of your washed, peeled produce in the juicer and voila!  Enjoy!

Spring To Do

While we don't officially usher in spring until this Friday, it's definitely in the air here in Michigan - 67 degrees today!  There is a lot to love about this transitional season and to really take advantage of everything it has to offer, I put together a list of a few things I'd like to do over the next couple of months before summer sets in...

Go for bike rides through our neighborhood
Watch baseball - go Tigers!
Have a picnic
Spring clean the house, top to bottom
Celebrate the Kentucky Derby (with Mint Juleps, of course)
Begin gardening and cleaning up our yard
Pink nails - this shade is my favorite
Bake a pie

What are you looking forward to doing this spring?

When Your Husband Is Out Of Town

I'm mixing things up today from my usual Friday five since this week was kind of a boring one.  Nick travels for work occasionally and has been gone for the past 4 days, just leaving me with my boy Brady.  I used to really dread him being away (still do a little bit) but I've also come to realize alone time comes with a few perks.  Here are my favorite five ways to entertain myself while he's out of town...

ONE | Eat Whatever
My extent of "cooking" this week was baking tater tots and making grilled cheese.  Other than that, it was all take out!  Mostly sushi since I'm obsessed with it and he's not crazy about it so we don't eat it often.

TWO | Schedule Fun Activities
Hanging out at home can be sort of boring by yourself so make sure to schedule fun things to get out and about.  I got my first facial on Wednesday and it was the perfect way to treat myself!

THREE | Take Over The Bed
I think I slept practically sideways in our bed every night and it was glorious.

FOUR | Comfy Clothes
Now this doesn't work as well if you have to go to work but since I am at home, I pretty much just rotated through my sweatshirt and leggings collection this entire week.  It's probably been the comfiest week of my life.

FIVE | TV Hog
Watch three hours of The Bachelor and all the Bravo TV you want and it's no big deal.  Although I did miss Nick's commentary to my 'girl shows' it was nice to not have to flip over to check out the score of the hockey game ;)

He's home now and although I'm back to cooking, cleaning, sleeping on my side of the bed, getting properly dressed and watching Fox News, I wouldn't have it any other way.  Happy Friday!

Confessions

I've started to really track and follow my stats (using Google Analytics) and every month, my confession post is the most popular one - via both page views and comments.  I don't blame you, they're some of my favorites to read, too!

Now for my March fess sesh...

I confess that while I was happy with the ending of The Bachelor, I am not excited about the idea of two bachelorette's. Especially one of them being Britt.  I just don't understand how this is going to work?  Are they both going to be on the whole season or do the guys chose one on the first night and the other goes home?  So weird.

I confess that I'm patiently waiting for these to come back in stock in my size.  Not sure if I'm sold on the idea of jogger pants or not but for this price, I really want to give them a try.

I confess that I think I'm losing my memory.  My favorite eyebrow pencil and hand cream have just vanished into thin air and I have no idea where they went.  I want to blame Brady but unless he figured out how to break into our bathroom and open my makeup drawer... I just don't think that's a viable option.

I confess that I spent way (way) too many hours 'spring cleaning' my Pinterest this week.  Organized boards, fresh covers and eliminating dead links - it feels good.

I confess that I finally had to give up wearing these shoes.  They are so cute but have zero support (for me) and were KILLING my hips.  I think I'm going to try these next, anyone else have them?  Luckily they're still pretty cute :)

Spring Training

Maybe it's the weather or the rapidly approaching swimsuit season, but I always find this time of year the most motivating to workout. And if anything provides an extra boost of motivation for me to workout, it's cute activewear.  Bright shoes, pretty water bottles and patterned leggings make getting your butt in shape that much more fun.

Here are a few of my favorite spring workout clothes...

Weekend Snaps

blue // pink

The weekend started off in the best possible way - shopping!  I picked up a couple of swimsuits and a new swing dress for our upcoming Florida vacation.

I held off for so long but I finally couldn't resist the Girl Scout charm while running errands on Saturday morning.  Which flavor is your favorite?   I'm all about the Thin Mints and honestly, they'll probably be gone by tonight - not good news for those new swimsuits.

Yep, we're still painting.  We gave our ceilings on the main floor a fresh coat of white paint and while it was not fun, it's amazing how much of a difference it has made.

And on Sunday, we needed coffee to tackle our first spring cleaning project - our closets.  Yikes.  Two garbage bags of trash and a few donation bags later, it feels so good to have that done.

Hope you're having a happy Monday!  I can't wait for The Bachelor finale tonight (team Whitney) and it's going to be 50 degrees here this week - hallelujah, we survived another winter :)

Friday's Five 3/6

Hello, Friday!

ONE | Puppy Graduate
Brady boy graduated from puppy class this week!  He's got a diploma and everything to prove it :)

TWO | Target Goodies
When I saw that these were on sale while researching for this post, I had to get them.  And then I had to add in the gold flatware so I could get free shipping of course.  Girl math.

THREE | House To Do's
There wasn't a follow up to my February home goals for a reason.  We did nothing!  We were just so busy and honestly, I don't know where the entire month went.  Hoping to pick the momentum up again this weekend with painting our ceilings (could there be a more boring project?) and finally ordering the wallpaper for our powder room.

FOUR | Shopbop Favorites
I'm sure you've heard, but Shopbop is having a big sale right now.  I've been majorly crushing on this bag and couldn't wait to order it but it was sold out before I even had the chance.  Fingers crossed they restock before it's over on Saturday.  Here are a few more of my favorites...

February Favorites Round Up

Joining Mia and Kelli today for a review round up of products that were mentioned on the blog throughout the month of February!

Bare Minerals Neutralizing Primer (seen in this post)
So, it's just okay.  It does what it's supposed to do - minimizes redness - but that's about it.  It'll do for now but it's nothing compared to my beloved MUFE primer.

Better Call Saul (seen in this post)
Anyone else watching?  We are loving it so far!

Chicwish Trench (seen in this post)
I can't even review this trench because it STILL HASN'T ARRIVED.  And I ordered it on Feburary 12th!  They don't offer tracking on their shipping so I have no idea where the coat is/if it's even coming.  If it doesn't arrive by next week, I'm definitely going to be giving Chicwish a call.

Lancome Eye Makeup Remover (seen in this post)
I wanted to hate this - I really did - because who wants to pay $30 for eye makeup remover?  But of course it's awesome.  And I'm hooked.

Thayers Witch Hazel Toner (seen in this post)
LOVE this stuff!  My previous toner did a really great job at clearing the remaining makeup off my skin and so does Thayers but it goes a step further and is really evening out my skin tone.

Tote Bag (seen in this post)
Decisions, decisions - thank you for all of your input!  The J Crew tote is on its way to me now :)

Big Little Lies (seen in this post)
My February book had a slow start and it took me forever to really 'get into' it but once I did, I couldn't put it down.  Definitely recommend it and now I can't wait to check out The Husband's Secret.

And as for the Fitbit (here) and pretty white pants (here) - I never ordered them.  I know myself and know that I'll think the Fitbit is cool for about two weeks and then I'll be over it.  And the white pants, maybe when I have a specific occasion to wear them but for now, I didn't feel like spending the money.  Too many other fun things to buy instead ;)  What were you loving this past month?

Guest Room Essentials

Our apartment in Chicago was a revolving door to guests.  It seemed like once a month we had friends or family coming into town and we loved it!  Unfortunately, our "guest room" at the time was more of an office/Nick's closet/storage room so it's been really nice to have a proper bedroom devoted to our visitors in the new house.  Over the past four years of hosting, I've come to learn what are essentials for a guest room and what aren't.  Here are a few things I would recommend keeping around to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable in your home.

Pictured above: Floral arrangement // Mirror // Chair // Bedding // Coffee mugs //
Reading material // Bedside lamps (save) // Candle // Faux fur blankets (on sale!)

What would you consider a guest room 'must have'?  Happy Tuesday!

Weekend Snaps

Fresh flowers, sunshine and House of Cards made for one great Friday!  We were able to get in four episodes this weekend and are loving the new season so far.  We did take a little break to watch Marley & Me since we hadn't seen it since it was in the theaters and now I remember why - talk about a tear jerker, oh my gosh.

Saturday morning we tried out a health club that I think we're going to join.  Racquetball was our warm up, although I spent most of the time in the corner hiding from Nick whacking the ball as hard as he could.

After living in our town for four and a half years combined (four in college), we finally made it to the brewery we're famous for - Bell's!  It was a fun night with friends and lots of good beer.

An Amazon order came in including this goodie - my March book.  A really easy, cute and lighthearted read.

This big dawg turned six months old on Sunday!  He's a little over 40 pounds, loves anything cloth (towels, pillows and especially socks), going to puppy class and napping on the couch - but only if we put him up there, he refuses to get up himself which I don't mind so much ;)

Where does the time go?  Not complaining though, I couldn't be happier to see March.  We're that much closer to spring!  Hope your weekends were great, too!
