Glam Makeup Storage

My makeup "storage" (if you can call it that!) is a disaster - anyone else?  I have all of my products just thrown into two bathroom drawers and it's a total mess.  Worst of all, I don't use half of the stuff that's crammed into the back of the drawers because for me, out of sight = out of mind.

Nick recently refinished a dresser for our bedroom and upon getting it set up this weekend with the new mirror, I realized how amazing the natural light coming in a nearby window would be for getting ready.  I decided to officially claim the dresser as my vanity... but now I need some pretty storage for my makeup.

Ahh, the acrylic makeup holders.  Glamboxes were made famous by the Kardashians a few years ago and as much as I would LOVE one of these, I could never bring myself to pay the (insane) amount they're asking.  I've heard good things about these shoe box containers from The Container Store, but does anyone else have a similar, more affordable option that they use/would recommend?

I love to use my Anthropologie initial mug to hold my makeup brushes (I just ordered a few Sigma brushes and I can't wait to try them!) and empty Diptyque candles make great storage for q-tips or cotton balls.

And of course, a small vanity mirror that has a magnifying side is a must for eye makeup application.  I've seen this one in store and can attest to the beautiful gold and that it is a super sturdy little mirror.  In fact, I think I'll be going back for it ASAP.  All this paired with some fresh flowers would make for one gorgeous vanity!

What's your go-to form of makeup storage?  Can't wait to share the vanity with you once it's all put together!

  1. I really want a glambox, maybe I'll get one for my birthday! I use a vase and coffee beans to store my make up brushes, gives em a sweet smell and they look pretty too!

  3. I have an acrylic make up box just like that one and I LOVE it!! They are so pretty, and a fun way to organize everything. It's actually the one that Biana is talking about--I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% off coupon!

  5. I absolutely LOVE my acrylic make up holder - it stores my make up and brushes with ease and I found mine at Homegoods :)!! It's definitely a cleaner look than having all of my make up in a bag or stuffed in a drawer!

  6. My makeup is a disaster and would LOVE one of those glamboxes but who has that kind of money for that?! Let me know when you find something that works for you!!

  7. Love these ideas. I just use a small, short glass jar/vase. I recently got a couple Sigma brushes too and love them!

  9. My mom always finds the best acrylic organizers at Home Goods/Tuesday Morning/TJMaxx/Marshalls. I never do, but that woman does!

  10. Love all of these, but yeah glambox wow sticker shock. I use some clear plastic ones from target and I keep my brushes in a leather case so they don't get dusty and such (what my MUA suggested)

  14. I have had my eye on one of those initial mugs for some time. Love that you use it for your make-up brushes!

  15. I've had my eyes on Glamboxes for awhile, but for now I have some acrylic drawers from Amazon, I'm running out of space though. Zahra Beauty has some great acrylic pieces as well, I recently purchased a 5 slot organizer.

  16. I can't wait to see how it all comes together! I can not figure out a good way to store my makeup in our bathroom. I hate having stuff on our counters but maybe I could organize it all in one of those acrylic things and just pull it out every morning. I'm sure your's will be perfect!

  17. My makeup is a little bit organized, but I have an acrylic organizer on my Amazon wish list. The one in my cart is only like $20 from Amazon.

  18. I purchased several acrylic holders last year and I love it! It makes everything look so pretty and organized and I actually know where everything is now, as opposed to before where it was all in a giant makeup bag. You can find great deals on them through Amazon or in-store at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

  20. I want to see your dresser! As much as I love my antique vanity table, I'm trying to come up with another solution because it takes up so much space in my office. Have you checked out MUJI for acrylic drawers? That's what I have and LOVE them (I think I wrote a post back in the day about them ...). They are affordable and have held up very well.

  21. Our bathroom is small and has a pedestal sink, so there is nowhere to set up a pretty vanity area, so my makeup is just kept in a cosmetic bag. I hope to someday have a pretty dressing room or area with all my make-up and jewelry displayed nicely!

  22. Your vanity is going to be beautiful!! Can't wait to see how it turns out :) I've reused B&B works candles to hold q-tips and cotton balls and it works great!

  23. I use things from the container store.. And also I was in need of smaller mirror for my vanity and I think that one from Target is right up my alley. Thanks!

  24. I love that mirror! So adorable! Also, you're going to love the Sigma brushes. I've had mine for a couple years now and they hold up super well :)

  25. That mirror is adorable!! I cannot for the life of me remember where I got my makeup organizer from, but I just looked on Amazon and Target...here are the links so you can check out what works for you (these are similar to what I have)..

    Target

    Amazon

I hope this helps, can't wait to see the final result!!

  26. Love that little mirror. I don't like to have my make up sitting don't have a great cabinet set up in our current master so my make up is grouped by items and stored in pretty travel pouches. I keep them all in one big Vera travel bag in a cabinet. A perk of this system is that everything I need is already ready to go when it's time to head out of town haha :)

  27. You make me want to get a little vanity mirror now... but my vanity is covered in so much STUFF!! I need to really get organized

  28. I got the Container Store shoe boxes for my makeup and they're awesome! I love them and got more for our office, too! I use my Anthro mugs for my brushes, too! I use empty candle holders for brushes and other stuff, too so I fully approve of this set up!

  31. ahh my makeup storage is a mess as well! i have a couple of acrylic 'bins' that go in the cabinets. i wish i could have pretty storage, but my cats would mess with it lol

  32. Love the idea of brushes in a mug. All my makeup is tossed into one make up bag which is always a disaster!

  33. Ah the Kardashian boxes (I didn't even know the formal name until right now) I have a similar type but the drawers are smaller - just from amazon that I'm actually sharing tomorrow! I love that you keep the brushes in your mug, I keep pens in mine but might need to get another one now!

  34. I got a drawer organizer from Bed Bath and Beyond for my bathroom drawers, but man one day I need one of those dressers hahaha. I just started using my IT Cosmetic brushes to put on my liquid foundation and under eye concealer and holy crap what a difference it makes--my makeup looks flawless!

  35. Ooh I like this idea! I should organize my make up more! We travel so much that my favorite makeup stays in a travel bag all the time, haha!

  36. So jealous of your vanity! When we move into a new place, one of my first orders of business is creating a space like that where I can do my makeup. I love the look of acrylic ANYTHING!
