Ways to Stay Creative

As bloggers, I think most of us would consider ourselves to be at least somewhat creative people.  We show up here every day and write and share and discuss.  Some of us have even been at it for years, and at times I think it's totally natural to 'run out of ideas' or become uninspired.  This always strikes during the winter for me.  Life is slower and quieter and it's so dang cold out that we're all just hunkered down inside (watching Netflix).  I have to work to keep myself inspired and I have a feeling I may not be the only one that suffers from the winter blahs!

Here are a few of my favorite ways to stay creative when I'm not always feeling it...

Carry a notebook everywhere with you to jot down ideas
Step away from the screens - the phone, the computer, the TV
Get some fresh air
Listen to different music
Meditate
Browse a magazine
Spend time with other creatives
Sweat it out
Move to a new surrounding - a different room in your house or a coffee shop
Ask for feedback from readers
Don't force it - take a day off instead of putting up a mediocre post
Clean or organize your workspace
Drink a tall glass of water
Collaborate with other bloggers
Write out a list of your blessings
Set a 30 minute timer and free write
Pick up fresh flowers for your desk

How do you stay inspired when posting 5x a week for 52 weeks a year?!

  1. I love these ideas! I've definitely been known to have my creative juices stop flowing around random months and sometimes, I just let that be okay instead of forcing myself to keep writing. I've also noticed the more I get out and about, the more I tend to have to share, so sometimes, just taking myself out of the house gives me all the kick I need! xx

  2. All great ideas! Sometimes I get in a rut an don't know what to write about and then I don't know whether to take a break or just write something but I don't want it to feel forced. Going to have to try some of these! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  7. These are awesome tips! I feel like if I step away for a few days and just completely focus on other things I will get creative while that is happening... it just sort of starts flowing. I write as my other job and it can be SO hard to be creative and get through the writers block!!

  8. Awesome tips gurlie! I've found that blog ideas come to me at the most random times, so I jot them down or add them to my notes in my phone. January is such a "blah" month with the cold weather and the excitement of the holidays being over that hunkering down with Netflix marathons always sounds like a good idea <3

  9. A big reason I switched from 5x a week to 3x a week was because I just couldn't stay inspired every single day! Love these things -- I am constantly making notes because I'll have an idea but forget about it 10 minutes later!

  10. Good points! And I remember there were a few weeks where I'd post 3x/week but I just can't do that anymore. It's all about finding balance :)

  11. I take notes at all times in my phone, such random thoughts bring some good post ideas. I love the idea of changing your surroundings-- I need to hit the library, coffee shop, and other places to switch it up. Love all of these ideas!

  12. I love these ideas! If I have an idea for a post, I make sure to write it down right away, and I feel like this has helped me somehow have more ideas in turn. Also its important to take the pressure away because that definitely stop the creativity from flowing! Thanks for sharing!!

  15. I love this list! I have felt uninspired lately too. I keep a notebook with me and anytime I see something I like or think of something I want to read about, I write it down. It helps to keep me organized and the ideas coming. :) Thanks for the inspiration today!

  16. You are one of the amazing bloggers who can always busy out content. I try not to overthink it... If I don't have anything to write about, I'm fine leaving my space empty for a day or two.

  19. These all are great ideas! I pretty much always have a notebook and pen with me in case inspiration strikes, but the Notes app on my phone also comes in handy for the same thing. You can't go wrong with a good sweat session at the gym either!

  20. Great ideas!! I'm always on the hunt for blog inspiration and have an ongoing list of potential blog posts on my phone. I love to blog about things that are interesting to me so it's fun to look around my house for blog inspiration - organization, DIYs, holidays, decor, shopping, events, family fun and pregnancy. I also enjoy cooking and my blog is good motivation for me to try out new recipes. I've been known to look through Pinterest for motivation, too.

  26. I always have a notebook with me because I'll get an idea at the most random times of the day. Great advice!

  27. I definitely suffer from the winter blahs, the Christmas season is over which makes me sad, I am back at school and January is my busiest month, the weather is cold and raining so can't do much so all I do is watch Netflix!
Such good ideas that I will use in the future.

  28. Good ideas! My blog is kind of a "all the things" blog so I pretty much always have something to share when I take the time to write (whether it's what we're up to or a recipe I made recently or what I've been thinking lately or house projects, etc). I think I would have a hard time staying inspired to write frequently if my blog where just one main category. So these are great ideas for getting inspired again!

  29. I love this list. I'm a big fan of changing scenery to help the inspiration. I want to collaborate more with other bloggers this year. I love bouncing ideas off of people. The energy of other people helps serve as an inspiration.
