Valentines Weekending + Sales

Happy Monday!  Hope you all had fabulous weekends.  Ours can pretty much be summed up in two words: snow and food.  It snowed pretty much nonstop on Friday & Saturday, but it was kind of nice to just cozy up and stay close to home.  And I figure if it's going to be 10 degrees outside, it should at least look like a winter wonderland!

We celebrated Valentines Day on Saturday night with a pretty epic home-cooked meal.  Caprese salad, roasted asparagus, mashed potatoes, lobster and filet mignon were on the menu.  Oh, and can't forget my chocolate covered strawberries.  So flippin good!  The rest of the weekend was consumed with finishing Making a Murder - 'eh' was my overall opinion - and working on our baby registry.  You guys, why do babies need so much stuff?  Beyond overwhelming.  Tell me your #1 favorite thing you got off of your registry!

But for more exciting shopping, there are lots of great Presidents Day Sales going on right now!  I actually stopped at Forever 21 on Friday and bought three sweaters for -- wait for it -- $8.22.  Yes.  They were $2.75 a piece, how crazy is that?!  Here's a few other sales I've got my eye on...

+ Anthropologie: extra 40% off sale items
A classic white blazer and the prettiest bow earrings

+ Banana Republic: 40% off both regular (code BRFIT) and sale merchandise
Love the color options of this oversized turtleneck sweater

+ Forever 21: extra 30% off sale with code XOXO
A hooded denim jacket and an olive green utility romper will take you into spring

+ Gap: 40% off purchase with code LONGWKND
I've been living in these comfy pants on the weekends

+ J. Crew: extra 40% off sale with code SHOPSALE
A classic striped shirt and gorgeous suede loafers

+ LOFT: 40% off select styles
I've got my eye on this fringe sweater, even if I can't wear it till next winter

+ Nordstrom: up to 40% off clearance
My favorite workout leggings in hot pink and the perfect spring wedges

  3. If you are nursing, I loved the my Brest friend nursing pillow!!a sound machine is also clutch at our house. We use the sleep sheep! Good luck! Remember you can always return/exchange!!

  4. I second that, the Brest friend pillow is amazing!! I also loved, loved, loved Aden + Anais Bamboo swaddles! They are so soft and double as great nursing covers when you're in a pinch. Just remember they grow out of things incredibly fast so no need to go crazy with baby gear. I thought I needed everything under the sun when I was pregnant and most of what we got was only used for a few weeks/months. Although, I think baby clothes are the exception! There are never enough adorable outfits :) XO

  5. Your Vday meal looks amazing!! Ah registering! So overwhelming for sure. I love the Halo sleepsack swaddles, second the sound machine, Dr. Brown's bottles, the Nosefrida is essential! Good luck! If you ever have specific questions on things I'm happy to offer my two cents for what it's worth.

  7. I loved receiving practical items like bottles, onesies, washcloths, etc. Those are the items I ended up using and needing the most, and they were much appreciated later on! That pizza looks delicious!

  9. Snow and food sounds like a solid weekend to me. :) The ending of MaM was disappointing, I agree. I thought the last episode was pointless. I hope you share all these registry tips and items that you're choosing so I can save them for a later date!

  11. That meal sounds like perfection!! Especially compared to our pizza dinner we had lol! I remember baby registering being soo overwhelming. I actually did a lot of my registering online with babies r us and amazon. It was just easier for me to add and remove items that way. It's so hard to narrow it down to the 1 best thing I got, but a few things I didn't think about that I ended up needing were a hands free pumping bra (even if you plan on breast feeding, you may need to pump at some point and it is a life saver to have your hands free), a bottle warmer and the boon lawn drying rack (I ended up having to exclusively pump instead of bf'ing so these were very handy with bottle feeding). Other than that, in the beginning it's really all about the baby eating and sleeping and diaper changing... So any gadgets that help with that! ha!

  12. Oh my gosh, your Valentine's dinner looks and sounds AMAZING!! I really like shopping for baby gifts off my friends' registries, but I can't even imagine how crazy it is to register :)

  13. That dinner looks AMAZING! You guys know how to do it right! Registering is so overwhelming and babies do need a ton of stuff, but don't open it until she comes because they don't all actually need or even like all of it! That's my biggest tip! Honestly, for the first few months, a great little sleeper and a swing (but they all like different types) are what you need!

  14. I could not get into the murder series so I just stopped after the first episode.

A lot of people I know really love that grass bottle drier thing - I don't know the official name of it but many are swearing by it!

Your surf & turf looks good!

  16. Lobster! That looks delicious. It was cold here too this weekend (although nothing like your temperature) so I had a lot of couch and sweatpants time yesterday. Have a great week!

  18. Sounds like an amazing weekend girl!! Registries are soooo overwhelming, it took all of me to do our wedding registry so I cannot begin to imagine how much time it would take for a baby! I'm listening to this podcast from Real Crime Profile that is delving deeper into the series and it's so interesting!

  19. I so love end of season sales!! The BEST!
Dont get so overwhelmed. Most of the stuff people register for, you dont even use :) Stick with the basics - you'll be fine :) ... lots of onesies - that's something you'll always want.

  20. even with the snow. the food yall had sounds wonderful!!

yes babies are sooo expensive! I don't want to think about the money we've spent so far. I think of all of the items we've gotten her swing was our favorite. it's been the same swing we've used since she was born.

  27. Sounds like a wonderful weekend! I'm trying to avoid all of the deals and save up a bit. It's taking some serious self-control!

  28. Your food all looks soooo good! Glad you got to squeeze in some fun and enjoy some down time with the snow. My best registry tips are here: http://polka-dottyplace.blogspot.com/2014/05/registering-for-your-first-baby.html Hope some of it is helpful as you're navigating the overwhelming world of all things baby :) My hubby and I came home from registering the first time and both took a nap. Those stores are exhausting!

  29. Oh la la, thanks for the sale tips. Also, looks like a delightful weekend given the snow! Hope you're feeling well girlie.

  30. I'm sure registering for a baby is 10 times harder than for a wedding. I went into Babies R Us to pick up something for my future sister-in-law and walked out after realizing that I can't navigate the aisles so.... online shopping it was!!

  31. Your Saturday night meal looks delicious! I can only imagine how overwhelming registering is! We are always amazed by how much "stuff" babies need when traveling with our friends that are new parents!

  32. Snow and food is a good combo! :)
Start making that baby an IOU tab. How rude! lol

  33. Girl, I thought that meal was from a fancy restaurant! Looks so yummy!

  34. Hands down one of my favorite baby items is cloth diapers. Never ever have to deal with blowouts! Plus better on baby's bum! Plus better for the environment. I also love Aden+Anais *bamboo* swaddled blankets (especially for a summer baby). Baby carriers are a must, I love ring slings & mei tais. Tulas are good too.
