Weekending Highs & Lows

Happy Tuesday!  Getting going after the Super Bowl is always tough and this weekend was an especially busy one all around, so excuse my recap a day late :)  We had the best couple of days and I'm still wishing we could rewind back to Friday and do it all over again.

HIGHS
Nick and I kicked off the weekend by grabbing dinner at one of my favorite restaurants - I had shrimp tacos and he ordered a jalapeno bacon burger, but instead got a veggie turkey burger, haha - and then went home to hang with Brady and watch Making a Murderer.  We're half way through the Netflix series and definitely hooked!

Saturday brought a massive Chili Cook Off at a beach town near us.  There were 26 restaurants offering free chili tastings, horse drawn carriage rides, ice skating and hand carved ice sculptures around every corner.  Such a fun winter day and it was so nice that the weather cooperated with pure sun (although it was freezing cold)!

We were up bright and early on Sunday to head for the Chicago suburbs.  We shopped all. day. long and it was so productive.  We bought this dresser for the nursery and ordered this crib (in white)!  Can't wait for it to come in.

It was so great to stop at Buy Buy Baby, too and I think we've finally decided on a stroller and car seat.  I'll probably do tons more research before adding anything to our registry, but right now I'm leaning towards the Baby Jogger City Mini GT and the Nuna Pipa car seat (and the adapter of course).  Does anyone have either of these and have any thoughts?!?

PF Changs for lunch was a wonderful decision because while I've always loved pad thai, but I have had a serious obsession with it since becoming pregnant.  It was actually one of the ONLY things I could stomach eating in the first trimester - so random, ha.

I picked up these boots for our upcoming Colorado trip.  They're on sale right now, but going fast!

While I didn't have a major favorite for the Super Bowl, it was pretty cool seeing the Broncos win as I really think that was Peyton Manning's final game.  Going out on top is definitely the way to do it!  Other highlight: this commercial. Anything with dogs, seriously.

LOWS
As you can imagine with a productive shopping weekend, it was an expensive weekend!  But I really think we got a great deals on the purchases we made - I mean, how can you beat a dresser for $250? And I really did show some restraint so I was proud of that.  It took everything in me not to buy one of everything at PBK!

I've been dealing with some sciatic nerve pain these last few days.  Hot showers, stretches and massages help, but it hasn't been fun (especially at night when I'm trying to get comfortable).

Our Chick-fil-A is still under construction, so whenever we're back in Chicago, it's always a must stop for me.  BUT we were in the city on Sunday and I totally forgot they were closed on Sundays until we were pulling into the parking lot :( :(  So sad, although I do give them major props for taking a day off.

This bag seems to be completely sold out!  I can't believe how fast it went.  It's gone online and I couldn't find it in the store either - bummer.

All in all, a pretty great weekend.  Hoping yours was as well and that your Mondays weren't too rough.  Only 3 days now till Friday, we can do it!

  4. Sounds like a great weekend! I haven't had PF Changs in forever, but I did love that place, so I understand why you were excited for it :) I feel like I always crave Chik Fil A on Sundays. It's like my body's way of rebelling haha.
Can't wait to see the nursery come together!

  5. Sounds like you have SO much accomplished for the nursery and making big decisions for stroller etc... I remember that taking me forever!! Also, I can completely relate about chick fil a. I crave it so badly and have NO access to it in Canada (probably not a bad thing) but you better believe that every time we head back to the states, I map out the nearest one so try and visit!!

  8. I seem to crave Chick-fil-A the most on Sundays! Hope the one in your town opens soon. I miss having a PF Changs nearby - their lettuce wraps and chicken lo mein are amazing. Great work on all of the nursery finds this weekend. I'm excited to see how everything comes together for little miss. I loved seeing the Broncos win the Super Bowl and it definitely had a final feeling for Peyton. What a way to go out :)

  9. We have that same dresser for Logan's nursery and I LOVE it! It holds so much stuff and looks really nice. I really wish we had one in our room. lol. Glad you got some baby stuff accomplished!

  10. We looked at the same dresser for the nursery! And I'm so glad we don't have a PBK anywhere near us because that would be really hard. I hear ya on the expensive weekend, though. I think any time a trip to IKEA is involved, it adds up quickly! Where are you have the sciatic nerve pains? I had some awful pain in my right lower back (almost going down by butt. TMI, I know.) this weekend and it was awful! Hope yours has given you some relief!

  12. Such a great weekend, and now I want to eat some Asian food, haha. I love the crib you ordered, it's so classic and pretty! PBK is so dangerous - good job holding back, it's pretty hard to there!

  13. I bought the exact boots last week! Loving them so far! I walk through the snow whenever possible to prove their waterproof-ness :)

  14. I am currently wearing those boots, they are the best! Also quality choice on the dresser. I have the PBK version of it (looks exactly the same almost) for Greyson's room and it was such a waste of money. We have the stroller and I LOVE it. I cannot say enough good things about it! So durable, has held up for years, and when you have another child, the riding board is such an awesome addition! Plus, it's so easy to open and close, especially when you have a baby or car seat in hand. Super productive weekend and I am sending you CFA thoughts!

  15. Those boots like perfect for your trip, glad you were able to snag a pair while they're on sale! And yay for making progress with your nursery purchases! I can't imagine how hard it is to decide on things like strollers and carseats!

  16. I am the same way with chick fil a...never crave it unless it's closed and I really can't have it!

Looking good on the baby items!

  17. A chili cook off sounds perfect for a cold winter day! I hope your back pain starts to go away, I know I've had some girlfriends with similar issues. I think one of them used a foam roller and it helped a little bit.

I also know the pain of pulling into a Chick-fil-a on a Sunday. It's a bummer!

  18. That sounds like the best winter day full of all the yummy chili to try.
I'm totally into Making a Murderer right now too... what passes the time on the treadmill.
Bless your heart - sciatic nerve pain is MISERABLE!! I know - I deal with it - but it helps when I get on the inversion table - something I know probably wouldnt be too safe for a PG momma... Keep getting those massages & stretch however you can.

  19. I cannot wait to see the nursery come together, such an exciting time in your life!

  24. LOVE the dresser and crib! They're going to look amazing! The chili cookoff sounds like an absolute blast! Hope you feel better and the pain goes away!

  25. I'm sorry for your pain! If it makes you feel better about your dresser purchase, I am using all the furniture that has been in my room since I was born (except the crib haha!) right now! It came in such handy!

    ReplyDelete
  26. That is the dresser we are going to get (except in the white stain)! We just have to get moved into the new house first so we can make a trip down to Dalls to pick it up. Also, we heavily considered that crib! We were going to get the city mini gt but ultimately decided on the city versa (it's discontinued in the U.S., but you can snag it on albeebaby for a great price) since you can remove the seat and attach a car seat and turn the seat forward or rear facing, and I loved the Nuba pipa but it wouldn't fit in my car, so we went with the cybex Aton q (definitely worth considering if you haven't already). Can't wait to see the nursery coming together (yours and ours haha)!

  40. Okay, my thoughts: strollers are not necessary. We have been a no stroller family with both kids. I baby wear and find it so much easier. and for car seats, they are in the infant seats for such a short amount of time that I would go starlight for a regular seat. We love the Diono Radian. They can use it from infanthood all the way until they are completely out of a booster. But keep in mind, I am totally a hippy and hear aren't theses suggestions definitely aren't the mainstream route. ;-) Also, try wearing a support belt to help with the nerve pain.
