The Big Baby Registry Post

The highlight of the weekend was not binge watching House of Cards, going to trivia night with friends, or even setting up the new crib (well, that was a close one) - oh no, it was finally finishing our baby registry!  You guys.  Making that thing was no joke.  For a seriously inexperienced baby person like myself, I had no idea what I was doing or heck, what most of this stuff even was.  To say I was overwhelmed to begin with would be an epic understatement.

But, after a lot lot lot of research (this book was a life saver), reading practically every Amazon review out there and consulting plenty of mom friends, this is what I've come up with.  I figured today I'd share WHY I picked some of these items and plan on writing a follow up post later this year about if I'm still happy with my decisions.  And please, feel free to weigh in - tell me if something sucks or if there is something that you loved that I neeeed to add.  Okay, here we go!

ONE | Nuna PIPA Car Seat (in Night)
Why I'm Excited: Sleek design, the most lightweight one I tested out (only 7.7 pounds!), True Lock installation to ease the pain of clicking the seat into the base, Dream Drape canopy shade to protect baby from rain/sun/people ;) and checks all the safety requirements.

TWO | Bumbo Multi Seat with Tray (in Aqua)
Why I'm Excited:  Everyone raves about the Bumbo so I knew it was a must have and I love that this one comes with a tray so that it can be used during meal time, too.  Being honest though, I decided to go with the multi seat (over the original Bumbo) because I cannot find a high chair that I like.  It's the one big thing missing from my registry still so feel free to throw any recommendations my way.  I figure this will get us through in the mean time!

THREE | Fisher Price Newborn Rock N Play Sleeper
Why I'm Excited: Because everyone says this is what baby sleeps in at the beginning!  A great price with a neutral design, the seat pad is machine washable, plugs into the wall so you can avoid the battery suck, and is light enough (8 pounds) that I can move it around the house.

FOUR | Ergobaby 360 Baby Carrier (with Infant Insert)
Why I'm Excited: 4 different carrier positions for baby, super easy to put on and the straps are comfortable and don't dig into your skin - per us trying it on in the store, of course.  I really wasn't sure if I would be into baby wearing, but the idea is really growing on me.  Having the ability to be hands free to at least get stuff done around the house (hey, maybe even blog) will be nice!  I also registered for the Boba Classic Wrap.

FIVE | Aden and Anais EVERYTHING
Why I'm Excited:  Aden and Anais products have always been my go to gifts for baby showers so I'm excited to have some of their cute stuff around my own house now!  Love how soft and well made everything is.  I registered for A&A swaddles, burp cloths, bibs, crib sheets, you name it.

SIX | Baby Jogger City Mini GT (in black)
Why I'm Excited:  You mean why I'm obsessed.  I love this thing.  It's lightweight, you can fold it up in one easy motion, the attractive design, adjustable handlebar, and rides so so smoothly were all features that sold me.  We also registered for the adapter to be able to click our Nuna car seat into the frame.

SEVEN | Sophie the Giraffe Teething Toy
Why I'm Excited: Because she's adorable and is included on every single registry must have list :)  Other toys included are Baby Einstein Take Along Toons, this Sassy Bumper Ball, and this Skip Hop Puppy.

EIGHT | Marpac Dual Speed Dohm Sound Machine
Why I'm Excited: If my baby is anything like me, she will not be able to sleep in silence!  I have a fan going all night, every night, 365 days a year.  I love that this sound machine has a two speed motor so there are plenty of different sound variations and that it's small enough for easy travel.

NINE | Motorola MBP36S Digital Video Monitor
Why I'm Excited: Large color screen with infrared night vision, two way communication to baby's room, PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) feature to allow you to scan the entire room, displays room temperature and able to connect to up to 4 camera's for multiple rooms.  SO many mom's recommended Motorola brand so I feel confident with this decision, despite there being a million choices.

TEN | 4moms Breeze Playard
Why I'm Excited: I'm all about ease and I love that this one opens/closes with one simple step, then you can throw it in the portable travel bag which will be great for traveling to see our families.  It also comes with a removable bassinet so that's another sleep option for her when she's a newborn.

ELEVEN | Puj Tub (in white)
Why I'm Excited: It's super soft (looks way comfier than the plastic ones) and super small, perfect for our smaller kitchen sink and for storage purposes.  I have NO IDEA what tub to get for when she out grows this though - suggestions?

TWELVE | Dr. Brown's Deluxe Bottle Warmer
Why I'm Excited: Fits almost all brands of bottles, heats up bottles quickly and later can be used for warming baby food.  However, I want to use this sparingly (I say this now) to hopefully avoid a picky baby that only takes warm bottles.  Same with a wipe warmer, do I really need one of those??

THIRTEEN | 4moms mamaRoo Infant Seat
Why I'm Excited: 5 different motion options, bluetooth enabled so you can control with your phone, adjustable seat recline and of course, it's actually cute.  I've heard nothing but good things about this from pretty much everyone!  Another question: do I still need a swing, too or will just this work?

FOURTEEN | Halo Sleep Sacks
Why I'm Excited: Because I will do anything to help baby sleep.  You know how much I love my sleep.

FIFTEEN | Ubbi Diaper Pail (in white)
Why I'm Excited: You can use regular trash bags!!  So excited about this- no need to buy special diaper pail trash bags ala the Diaper Genie.  I also think it's a lot better looking than the DG personally.  I went with white, but it comes in lots of fun colors.  Also easy to open with a sliding top.

SIXTEEN | Baby Brezza Baby Food Processor
Why I'm Excited: This guy automatically steams and purees food all in one with the touch of a button.  It's BPA free and can be thrown in the dishwasher: win win.  I can't wait to try and make my own baby food!  I also registered for these freezer trays that seem to be super popular.

SEVENTEEN | Baby Brezza Formula Pro One Step Bottle Maker
Why I'm Excited:  Due to a medication I take, I am not allowed to breastfeed.  Since I'll be straight formula for the beginning, I think this splurge will be worth it.  It's basically a mini Keurig for baby bottles!  With just a push of a button, you can prepare a bubble-free bottle in seconds.  Especially perfect for the middle of the night ;)

EIGHTEEN | Boppy Newborn Lounger
Why I'm Excited: Because it's adorable?  Ha no, I think this will be nice for baby to just chill on.  Love that it's lightweight so it can be moved easily throughout the house and that you can just wipe the easy clean material down if it gets dirty.

NINETEEN | Boon Lawn Drying Rack
Why I'm Excited: Another must have you'll find on everyone's baby registry.  Perfect drying spot for all those little bottle accessories.  It comes in green or white, two different sizes and it's BPA free.  I also registered for the twig drying rack which sits right in the lawn (that was such a weird sentence).

TWENTY | Skip Hop Chelsea Diaper Bag
Why I'm Excited: 12 pockets!  It's a stylish bag that seems big enough to hold everything.  Love that you can wear it with the straps (that are also perfect for hanging on a stroller) or as a crossbody.  It's stylish and the black means that it will go with everything - and that Nick won't mind being seen with it.  I also registered for the Skip Hop Pronto Changing Station that fits perfectly in the bag.

Okay, whew, that was a lot.  Obviously there are a million more things on my registry, but these were the biggest pieces that I put the most effort into researching, so hopefully this helps out some other soon-to-be moms!  And like I said, feel free to send any recommendations/advice my way, I'm all ears!

  1. Very solid picks, for sure! Creating a registry is definitely a more stressful process than I feel like it should be - but there are so many options out there! Congrats on being done with it :-)

  2. My mom and stepmom had the same bumbo for the same reason. She never grew out of it and just transferred to a booster seat. I thought t wa genius to not have a high chair!!

  3. Crazy that littles need so much stuff. I always by my friends a Sophie, she's the best and I KNOW it's a toy little ones love. Most of my friends have the grass drying rack, good choice.

  4. I mean you basically did all the work for me for when that time comes and I have to register lol!! Thanks for sharing this and I definitely pinned for future use!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  5. I think this looks like an amazingly comprehensive list! Having no babies of my own I can't tell you how useful or not they are, but they sure all SEEM useful! Especially the white noise machine--our friends who recently had twins were just talking about how the babies love a white noise app our friend has on his phone so I think they're going to look into an external speaker to have for them.

  6. Well, our registries look identical - we must read the same blogs :) 4Moms JUST released their highchair yesterday and it immediately went on my Amazon registry! I was having the worst time finding one, too. Here's the link!! http://shop.4moms.com/shop-high-chair?utm_source=housefile&utm_medium=email&utm_content=4&utm_campaign=High%20Chair%20Announcement-030716

  9. Yeah!! I bet you had so much fun putting this together :) I can't believe how much things have changed since three years ago. Baby products just keep getting better and better!!

  10. I seriously don't know how you guys can decide with so much out there! I am definitely going to keep some of these brands in mind for the next baby shower I have!

  11. Yay for completing your registry! I feel like I kept updating mine constantly. lol. I love the diaper bag you chose - it was one of my top two contenders and I kind of wish I'd went with it! Love the Ubbi pail, halo sleepsacks and boon lawn. The formula making machine sounds fancy and nice!

  12. My friend swears by Sophie. She won't leave the house without her! And I bought her the Boon Lawn Drying Rack for her baby shower and she is still obsessed with it! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  13. #17... I thought the same thing - its a baby keurig! That's GENIUS!!!!
& I love the drying grass :) I want that myself for our dishes!!!

  14. great list! and genius that diaper pail takes regular trash bags! I do love my genie though, I buy the bags infrequently enough that the price tag doesn't really bother us!
One other item to keep in mind that I HIGHLY recommend is a wipe warmer..not so much once baby is older, but in those first few months using warm wipes for changes makes such a big difference when you are stripping down a cold baby in the middle of the night!

    1. I DO NOT recommend a warmer. See my note below. Its a fad that unfortunately parents buy into. Yeast growing on butts is terrible, gross and the baby is so miserable.

  15. I can't give much advice/feedback, but I know all babies love Sophie!

  16. I thought I would love the idea of a travel system. Turns out, we rarely used it. We use the carseat all of the time, and the stroller when Sophie was older, but never together. And it was originally a must have on our registry.

That's a serious heavy duty camera! We ended up with a summer infant but I think I like your pick far better than ours. We got ours for the same reason though, the PTZ was a must as well as two way communication. Is yours radio or wifi? We liked the summer infant because it would be harder to hack into.

I wish we had a baby keurig for when Sophie was younger, she was also formula fed quite early on so having that instead of trying to be awake and measuring properly would have helped a lot!

  17. The bottle machine that is like a keurig - how amazing! I love the video monitor too - it's crazy how hi tech and clear they've become! Definitely will be peeking back at this in the future!

  18. Great list of must haves! We loved the rock n play, bumbo, Ergo, drying rack, bumbo and Dr. Brown warmer (we loved everything Dr. Brown makes - pacis, bottles, warmer, etc). I've heard great things about the IKEA high chair that's white and gray and really affordable. I'm thinking we may go that route with #2. Cute diaper bag! I just bought my 2nd Kate Spade diaper bag because I really loved my last one so much. They're great, cute and really durable. I never had a wipe warmer and we did just fine. I heard mixed reviews on whether or not it was a must have so I opted out. Glad you've gotten your registry done - let the fun begin of showers, presents and preparing for baby girl!

  19. Super solid list! As far as high chairs (we have that gumbo seat too), I'm OBSESSED with the Phil and Teds Lobster travel seat. Just back sure you have a counter or table that will work for it, but it's amazing for travel and really sleep too. We've been using it from about 4.5mths on!

  20. Yayyy it is so exciting to finally get your list together. I know it takes awhile to compile and research. Honestly, I probably didn't do as much research as I could/should have, and it all worked out great. Also, I definitely have to recommend onsie footies with a zipper for the first three months of her life (like daily). Snaps are impossible at 1 a.m., 3 a.m., 5 a.m., etc. hahaha.

  21. Wow! You really had a good weekend! I can't imagine how stressful picking out baby stuff is. From what I've heard from my SIL & mom friends, seems like you've got all the big important things covered! The rock and play sleeper seems to be what every newborn uses - I don't know why people get super expensive bassinets. I'm not sure if you have this or not but the wubbanub paci's are a huge hit! My SIL said they're even good for baby hand-eye coordination

  22. You did a great job registering! I LOVE our City Mini and have been using it for years! It's the best! FYI, the lawn drying rack is excellent for wine glasses ;)

  24. Girlfriend, I'm saving this for later so I know what the heck to register for - ha! It looks like you researched and found so many great products!

  25. Girl, this is an awesome list! You've got the best of the best right there! Maybe add a lightweight stroller for easy access in and out of stores/malls/quick trips, etc. I used a snap n go with our car seat for the first few months and then when he grew out of it used the jogger everywhere. It got a bit bulky, so we just got a lightweight/umbrella stroller and I wish I would have a while ago! Also, I have heard great things about that baby Breza formula pro! I am seriously contemplating getting one for baby 2 for when I wean him to formula. Making those bottles in the middle of the night is annoying! You will love that machine!

  26. I am totally going to have to share this with a friend who is due in a few months - she texted me the other day so overwhelmed by this process haha!

  27. How cute is that baby Kuerig for bottles! I'll have to pin this for the not-so-distant future <3

  32. Great list- my one add on, the miracle blanket!! If you love sleep, you will love the miracle blanket. I used it with both of my kids, and it was a life saver. Look it up on Amazon :).

  33. I DO NOT recommend a wipe warmer. I'm a nicu nurse and they are dark warm places that breed Bactria. And trust me when I say, nothing is more gross than seeing a parent bring their baby into the hospital with mold and yeast growing on their butts due to the warmer.

  34. I'm currently pregnant and working on my registry as well. Personally, I think it's a rude to include big ticket items on a registry as if I'm expecting someone to buy it for me, but that's just me. I really like the info and links to the small stuff though!

  35. Sophie and the fake grass drying thinger are always a huge hit with my mom friends!

    ReplyDelete
  36. The rock & play is a lifesaver! And you don't need a highchair for quite a bit (mine is almost 8 weeks old and ours is still in storage for the foreseeable future) so you have some time to find something you like!

    ReplyDelete
  37. The list looks great! I have no idea but this will be so helpful whenever I have future little ones. I have heard great things about the playard. Jess at Just Jess

  38. Great picks! I don't have kiddos of my own yet, but the little girl that I keep a couple of days a week was 6 weeks old when I started nannying her. So I have a bit of newborn experience. You have so many solid choices on here! I'm so excited for you that your little one will be here so soon! :)

  39. We registered this past weekend and I left feeling so frustrated! I was way too overwhelmed. So, we had planned on using the Rock and Play in our bedroom for the baby to sleep in and I started hearing that it wasn't recommended for the baby to sleep in because they aren't flat. Have you heard anything like that?

    ReplyDelete
  40. i love baby jogger strollers - they are amazing, and so unbelievably popular. i hope you do an updated post down the line on how everything worked out, i love reading those!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Looks like a great list! You will quickly figure out what you like and don't like. My thoughts: a pack & play is completely unnecessary. We love our wipe warmer (but we use cloth wipes, so that makes a difference). I cannot recommend cloth diapers enough (hello NO blowouts!) but I know they are not for everyone. I think the Tula is a better carrier than the ergo (more comfortable), but Ergo is the common name everyone hears. Yes to everything A+A. I think their bamboo swaddled are better than the regular (especially for a summer baby). I also love their sleep sacks and their dream blankets for when your baby is a toddler. We have a keekaroo high chair and I love it. It easily blends into our kitchen table. That's probably enough for now!

  42. I'm sure things will change quite a bit by the time I'm ready to have kids, but saving this for when its time (or someone I know is having a baby). This looks like a great list!

  45. You have added pretty much every thing here. It's actually helpful for me because I am first time mom!! Can't believe how many newborn things I've already forgotten . Thanks for the such a great round up!
