April Goals

Oh buddy, is April going to be a busy month.  We're just getting back from California (recap coming tomorrow!), my baby shower is in a couple of weeks, I have another baby shower and wedding shower to go to, along with a baby basics class and a hospital birth tour.  We also have friends coming to town to visit, a couple doctor appointments and Junior League commitments.  I'm already tired thinking about it all, but at least it'll make the time go fast.  It's kind of wild to think that this could be our last full month without a baby if she comes early in May!

A quick March goals recap... nailed it.  Seriously, I am so proud of myself haha.  I accomplished everything on the to do list except get a new computer.  We just have so many other things we're spending our money on right now that I'm going to try and ride this thing into the ground.  Now that I've got all of my photos and documents backed up (see how here), I'm not quite as nervous about it just randomly dying on me.  So now for April - naturally this months goals revolve around baby, baby, baby!

Baby Shower Host Gifts | Nick's mom and my step-mom are hosting my baby shower on the 16th so I need to come up with thank you gifts for everything they've done for us!  I've been considering going the 'shower' gift route - body wash, bubbles, nice lotion and candle, that kind of thing - but it might be fun to do something baby themed, too.  Any ideas?

Baby Shower Thank You's | Pretty self explanatory, but I want to have all of these written and in the mail by the end of April.  I'm thinking about ordering these thank you's because they pretty much match my invites - so cute!

Finish Nursery | We still need curtains, a lamp (crushing hard on this one), wall art and a few other random things.  It's so close to being done though and I can't wait to share.

Spring Cleaning | Tis the season!  I have a whole list of stuff that I want tidied up around the house.  My organization board on Pinterest isn't helping things.

Book Newborn Photographer | Holy sticker shock.  I've looked into a few photographers in our area and can't believe how expensive this is.  Does $500 for 15 pictures seem right?  Maybe I'm just being cheap! Either way, I need to get someone booked up.

Read Baby Books & Get a Library Card | Nick's sister got us this book that I plan on reading cover to cover because I know nothing about babies and I want to read a couple of sleep books, too.  I've heard a lot of good things about this one, taking any recommendations!  I also need to get a library card now that I have a Michigan drivers license because buying books really adds up $$ after a while.

Schedule 4D Ultrasound | This one I'm on the fence about.  My regular doctors office doesn't do these and actually as long as everything is healthy, the only ultrasound I'll have this entire pregnancy was my 20 week anatomy one.  We have a boutique in the area that does elective 4D ultrasounds and it may be cool...

Organize Office | Because it's a m-e-s-s.  Everything that was in the baby's room just got thrown in there and I can't even stand opening up the door because it's a disaster area.  Must. Organize. ASAP.

Hair Pampering | I really want to try this hair shine gloss treatment before my shower.  I also just started using this weekly mask again and forgot how much I love it!  It's good stuff.

Plant Herb Garden | I'm nervous about this one because of my black thumb, but also excited!  It'll be my first herb garden and I'm hoping (key word there) to grow basil, mint and cilantro.  How cute are these chalkboard markers?  Again, any tips very welcome on this front!

What's on your to do list for April?  Any spring cleaning?

  6. I loved the 4D ultrasound we had with Rowan! He was biting his bottom lip which is something he still does now. I'm not sure I would do it with the next baby but I definitely recommend it for the first! As far as newborn photogs go, that does seem a little steep but maybe its normal for your area! Our photog said we'd only get 20 photos but she ended up giving us the whole session which was like 50 photos so maybe that is something they will do for yours!

  7. Way to ROCK your March goals, lady! That is super duper awesome.

Maybe for the shower gift something themed with the baby, like a shirt? Not necessarily world's best grandma but maybe something with whatever her name will be when the baby comes?

  8. I feel like I have photography sticker shock every single time but I guess it all matters what it includes especially if you get all the originals with no watermarks....

  9. Wow so much going on! Photographers are SO expensive..to be honest, I have a family friend who does it on the side and her work I have found to be as good as the professional. She has taken all of our photos basically since after Jackson was born..if you know anyone who does it 'not' professionally, it is worth looking into!

  10. Sounds like lots of 'nesting' going on! I think I'm starting to get to that phase too! As far as baby book recs go, I loved "Moms on Call" and "Happiest Baby on the Block". MOC helped me with setting a feeding/sleeping schedule early on and sleep training when it came time. It also goes over introducing solids, medications to use and remedies for common baby illnesses and rashes. Happiest baby on the block helped with soothing a crying/cranky baby. An yes, the baby photography is a racket! We got some taken at the hospital that were about that much and I really wish we would have waited and got them done at home with the whole family. It really is worth it when you look back at those photos down the road.

  11. As for the photography thing - I will say, baby photography is pricey... I typically think you can find a cheaper photographer, but in this case you want someone that does specifically baby pictures. You can get others, but if they are not familiar with babies, it can be kinda dangerous. Like those pictures where the baby's holding up their head - some people will actually attempt to do this. When the baby has no head strength. Its actually done by taking like 3 pictures & editing them together - each one, having someone spot the baby's head / arms/ hands... so many cute baby pictures that are dockered up to get the look that someone not as familiar would think, Oh, I can do that picture.... so check into them & then know if they're more categorized in this area, its worth the price.

  12. Sounds like a super busy month filled with exciting things! Can't wait to hear your Cali babymoon recap, and as far as shower hostess gifts - I went with that "shower" theme as a thank you to my bridal shower hosts and they loved it and thought it was such a cute idea! And holy sticker shock is right! I had no idea they were so pricey! Do you have any friends who are photographers who may be able to do a shoot for you for much less?

  13. What a busy month - it will FLY by!!! Newborn photos are crazy expensive!! I ended up finding a photographer that does 'grow with me packages'. We ended up getting a package that includes newborn - 4mo - 8mo & 1 year photos for $900. Still spendy, but it's for an entire year of pictures!! If you find a photographer you like - it's worth asking if they have that option!

  14. What a fun month ahead!! Lots of exciting things to look forward to! Can't wait to read all about your Cali trip!

  15. You are booked to the max this month, but it's all exciting stuff! I can't wait to see the nursery, I bet it's adorable. And, yes to all things spring cleaning - it's a constant task in this house these days!

  18. holy moly $500 for 15 pictures?!!! that is insane. i do agree with rebecca above like you want someone who specifically does baby pictures but that is insane. you have a fancy camera right? maybe get someone to do the 15 amazing pictures and then you can take a bunch more on your own. but holy sticker shock indeed. good luck with the rest of your goals!

  19. I wish I was half as proactive as you were! And you're pregnant dealing with hormones and other peoples baby showers! Rock on!

For us, cleaning and organizing is an absolute must for this April. We are super excited for some house updates and changes.

  20. Only one ultrasound?! That's such a bummer! Maybe that's normal at most places? Most of my friends have had at least 2 or 3, though. I'm glad that baby has been so healthy and there has been no cause for concern, but at the same time I totally understand wanting to see baby again!

  21. Bummer you only have one ultrasound! I didn't have many with my first and then had lots with my second. It was fun to check in on them regularly. Newborn pictures are super pricey!! $500 seems a little high, but it all depends on your area and how long the session is. I think that $200-$300 range seems really common and sometimes the hospital works with local photographers to offer great packages. We went that route both times and loved the professional options. I will say that you'll never regret spending money on great quality newborn pictures and find someone who'll give you a CD of pictures instead of prints. They're only that tiny for such a short amount of time so find a photographer you love :)

  23. I dont think you are being cheap! That seems like A LOT! I know pictures can be super expensive though.. there has to be something cheaper though! I hope you find someone good! Those newborn pictures are so precious!

  24. You have some great goals for this month. Holy busy you aren't kidding about how much you have going on this month. A newborn photographer charges that much for a handful of photos....that's ridiculous!! Yay for all the cleaning that's been going down, I'm sensing you're going full nesting mode now that the baby's arrival is closer.

  25. Maybe you could give Nick's mom and step-mom shower themed gifts with spa items to pamper themselves, but also includedsome baby bath necesities? Cute washcloths, a rubber ducky, and baby shampoo/body wash, so that their homes are stocked for baby's visits to their homes?

  26. Eek! I want a 3 or 4d ultrasound too, so badly! But I'm having trouble deciding if I can spend the money on it haha. I haven't seen our little guy since 20w and I am dying to see his face! :) For hostess gifts, I got both Grandma's-to-be a cute 'brag book' photo album they can keep in their purses, etc along with a nice candle/lotion. I'm reading http://www.amazon.com/Heading-Home-With-Your-Newborn/dp/1581104448 and almost done with it- I've found it super helpful, as I know nothing either and it's written by 2 pediatricians!

  27. You should be able to find a much more reasonable photographer. Instagram is a great place to look. Just use hashtags to search like #michigannewbornphotgraphy and other variations of that. And I would personally find someone that gives you all the digital copies. Not just 15 photos.
