A Due Date Birthday

Image via

Today is my birthday!  And my due date!

I'm writing this on Wednesday evening, the 15th, and unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting a baby for my birthday, haha.  She seems just a little too comfy in there.  I do have a doctors appointment this morning at 8am so fingers crossed for some progress at the very least.  I can't believe I'm already at 40 weeks, it honestly went so fast - once I got through that super fun first trimester.  It's truly been a wonderful experience and I couldn't be more thankful for how well everything has gone.

Same with this past year of my life!  It's been a really, really good one.  We celebrated tons of our friends last summer with a bunch of wedding festivities, spent plenty of time at the beach while Brady swam (can't wait for that again this year), got pregnant, completed LOTS of house projects and really made it our home, developed a strong group of friends here in town, spent time with family, went to California and Colorado, and crammed in as many date nights as we possibly could.  28 will be a hard one to top.

Today I'll be spending my birthday at a doctors appointment, taking Brady to a vet appointment, a friend is stopping over with her new dog, and doing laps around the neighborhood.  Trying to get this baby out!  And tonight Nick will be grilling up steaks for dinner and getting ice cream is a must.  Before I go, just a few things I want to remember from the last couple of weeks (and hopefully the end of this pregnancy!):

+ Nick always asking if I'm going into labor and if my water is breaking, haha.  It makes me laugh every time.  He's not going to believe it when it really finally happens!

+ I thought I was escaping pregnancy without any awkward stranger exchanges, but I finally had my first one this past week.  I was in line at the hardware store and a lady in front of me was relentless with the questions and the 'opinions' - wanting to know if I was going to breastfeed (and when I said no, asked why and then proceeded to lecture me on how I should be), telling me there was no way possible I was having a girl because I didn't gain enough weight, and she was about to touch my stomach when she was up next at the register.  Thank the Lord.

+ I finished my bottle of prenatal vitamins 5 days ago... and just didn't order more.  So I haven't been taking any vitamins for the past week because I figured she would be here any day, but nope and now I feel bad about it!

+ Pretty sure a few stretch marks have appeared.  I'm not 100%, they could be veins, but I'm thinking they're stretch marks.  Wahh.  Also, my rings have come off this week.  The heat has been KILLER.  It's been around 90 degrees and humid.  It is never, ever this hot at the beginning of June in Michigan - except this year of course.

+ One thing keeping me happy in this heat is watermelon slushies!  Fresh watermelon, pineapple, a splash of apple juice and some ice all mixed up in the Magic Bullet.  I cannot get enough of watermelon right now and my drinks can't be cold enough, the thirst is unreal.

+ I'm feigning for a club sandwich.  I've already requested it for my first meal post baby.  With a glass of champs of course.  Would it be weird to ask to put my champagne bottles on ice when we get to the hospital?  Just kidding ;)

  1. That slushie sounded so good when you told me about it last week! So sorry it's been so hot and humid--of course it would be when you're pregnant. And a big ew to that woman in line. Whyyyyyyyyyy do people think it's ANY of their business?? Glad she survived that encounter without you punching her--you'd have had every right :)
    Happy birthday!!!!!

  2. That's so funny! I was due on my birthday as well with baby #2. Took my daughter to the playground in the morning, then in the afternoon my contractions started, my son was born at 2am so he missed it by 2 hours! Good luck!

  4. Happy, happy, happy birthday beautiful wonderful friend! I hope you get a baby for your birthday :)!

Wow to that lady in line, why do people do that? So strange and rude. I think it is perfectly acceptable to put your champs on ice when you get to the hospital, because hello you just had a baby ;)!

  16. I know people who actually did bring alcohol to the hospital because they weren't breast feeding. The nurses accommodated for her so maybe you should see, just to see what kind of look you get, haha!

  18. Pregnancy legit brings out the crazy in people.... I had several people I didn't know touch my stomach and it freaked me out. I'm big on personal space. As for the breastfeeding, nonsense on what that person was saying. Sophie had to switch 100% over to formula when my supply dried up and she is a perfectly happy child.

Also happy birthday! I was lucky enough to give birth prior to 40 weeks, but my doctor wouldn't have let me gone much over 40 weeks anyway.

  23. Happy birthday Katie! Oh man that encounter with the lady sounds like a beating. I don't get why people are so intrusive...especially about breast feeding. I have a friend like that and it drives me nuts. Can't wait to hear that baby has been born!! I'll be praying :)

  28. Happy Birthday gorgeous! Why would a random stranger ask you if you were going to breastfeed?!?!? What is wrong with people seriously!??!?!

  29. You've had a very eventful year! And it will continue to get better. And strangers are the worst and creepy! It's none of her business. I had a friend that would tell strangers she didn't feel comfortable sharing any info related to her pregnancy with them. That's the way to go so they shut up!

  30. Happy Birthday, Katie! I don't understand what is wrong with people! They go crazy when someone is pregnant! Haha. I love your club sandwich comment!

  33. Happy birthday and she will be here before you know it, even though it seems like forever! I got a few stretch marks on my stomach when I was pregnant with matthew but 18 months later and they're gone!! So there is hope that they are not permanent!

  35. Happy Birthday!! People say the weirdest most opinionated things to pregnant people. So glad she didn't get to touch your belly. Hands off people!! The first meal after you have the baby tastes SO GOOD! You'll be starving so hope you've got a feast planned :) Can't wait to hear she's arrived. Thinking of you and praying for a safe, quick delivery for you both.

  36. Happy Birthday! Here's hoping your little one is on their way soon! I went 2 weeks overdue with both my boys and craved watermelon the entire 9 months I was pregnant! I pretty much ate a large watermelon everyday the last 2 months on pregnancy :D xx Rox-Anne, Celebratingthislife.ca
