Thursday Rambles

Blogging, how I miss you!

I've thought about writing this post about 50 times this past week, but two things have stopped me.  One: my baby is really only content when being held, don't even try setting her down! (not complaining, I know this will pass too fast!) and two: I don't even know where to start with writing.  My brain is all over the place and going in a million different directions.  I have plenty of things I want to share - Hadley's newborn pictures (I shared a sneak peak on Insta last night!), what I actually used in my hospital bag, my experience with the baby blues (they're real and why does no one talk about them?!), our first month favorites and plenty more.  But it will come in time... as I figure out a way to type one handed ;)

For today, a round up of pictures of life lately and some random rambles!

We celebrated Nick's 30th birthday (and Hadley's 2 week birthday!) with a BBQ with our immediate families.  We are finally getting our act together with fixing up our backyard and it feels so so much better.  There is still some work to go on the patio decor, but my favorite parts so far: these string lights from Costco and our new cornhole set!

I can't even handle the cuteness!  (And why does she look so big in this picture?)  Everyone swore up and down that we would live by the rock-n-play, but so far she's actually not too crazy about it.  She'll contently sit in it for about 10 minutes, but that's it.  Thankfully she does love...

...her Halo Bassinest.  That thing has been worth EVERY penny.  I love it and love having her right next to me.  Brady has only tried to get in it once ;)

You know we celebrated National Ice Cream Day last Sunday!  Did you?!

Also at 2 weeks old, she made her first trip to our friends lake cottage!  She slept the entire time, but I know there is plenty of fun ahead up there :)

Brady helping me shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  I shared a bunch of my favorite picks HERE - and did end up purchasing this Barbour jacket pictured above.  I feel like the sale selection was so amazing this year... but I haven't been impressed with the shipping.  I placed a huge order one week ago and it's all just shipping now.  Maybe I've been spoiled by Amazon Prime...

Oh my gosh, the baby smiles.  I don't think they're intentional smiles yet, but they are the absolute cutest and sweetest thing I've ever seen.

I've been trying to get out of the house and do something every day (or else I'd go stir crazy), and my friend had us over to hang out at her pool on Monday.  Friends, chips and guac and these delicious wine spritzer drinks = the best way to spend a Monday.  I can't wait until I can swim again.

Although... one pieces from here on out.  The stretch marks are UNREAL.  Please tell me if you know of a way to make them go away?!

Hope you're having a great week, too!

  2. She's so cute! I would love to hear if you find a one piece suit that you love. I tried on a few about 6 weeks postpartum and it was super depressing...it was almost as if they were less flattering than the two pieces :( I hope you have better luck than I did!!

  6. I'm sure life is so hectic right now for you. A momma's job is a tough one.
She DOES look so big in that picture - not a newborn. I love how she's already gotten those legs so straight - relaxed & not still curled up. That's a content baby.
Brady... oh my gosh - I just adore that fur baby.
How did I miss the sneak peek on insta? I'm heading there right now!!!

  14. Goodness she is cute! The baby blues are real. I had them way worse with Finn and they lingered longer. But eventually you come out of it. Just make sure to touch base with your self and friends and because PPD is also very real. Also, if she doesn't like to be put down, you could always cosleep. There ARE safe ways to do it! It's how we have always maximized sleep in our house. Plus who doesn't love those snuggles.

It sounds like you guys had fun for nick's birthday, I love the lights hanging in the backyard and corn hole is always so much fun. 17. Love seeing you as a Mama!!! She is absolutely beautiful. I think it's a girl thing that they need to be held all the time. I swear Brody wasn't like that but Madelyn wanted me to hold her constantly!!

  19. You make me feel so much better about what is up ahead for me in November (when my own little girl arrives). I love that you don't a.) sugar coat everything, and b.) have a doom and gloom attitude about those first three months I keep hearing about. Thanks for the encouragement!

  21. Those first few weeks, well months really, with a newborn as so hard. Everyone tells you it too but until you experience it yourself, it's hard to really understand. I can remember sitting on the couch with Oliver ALL DAY except to pee and to attempt to eat. The moment I put him down he would scream. And you know us mommas can't handle hearing our babies cry! My husband turned 30 when Oliver was 2 weeks old as well and I was a total mess on his birthday! I remember sobbing because we couldn't do anything fun for his birthday and I was so sad because now we had a baby who had to be fed non stop and I wasn't get any sleep. Looking back I laugh at why I was getting so worked up about it, I mean Theo certainly wasn't, but it's those darn hormones! But I promise you, once you get to 6 months and up, it's so much fun. I keep thinking every month is my favorite month with Oliver but then the next month comes and I love it more!

  22. What a great update! Those smiles are amazing! We did not celebrate ice cream day on Sunday! We did in Monday though haha.. I could have sworn you had no stretch marks last I saw an update. Did you get them last minute or after delivery!? I don't have any yet. I figured I'd get some closer to the end but some people were telling me that if I didn't get them already I probably wouldn't get them at all.. Idk how true that is haha.. Can't wait to see what you actually used at the hospital! Xo

  23. She is so darn cute!! I can't get over how much hair she has!! And give yourself sometime to adjust, I mean you have had quite a bit of posting since she came into this world, that's pretty amazing!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  24. The baby blues are hard and I am so sorry you had to deal with that. The never wanting to be put down stage is tough too... you miss it when it's gone, but when it's happening there are tough moments. Is she ok with being worn? That changed my life! It's amazing the products people swear by and then what each baby actually loves and doesn't. She is so gorgeous, I love keeping up with you and her!

  25. This is going to sound awful but...I'm so glad you have stretch marks too! I really was NOT diligent about creaming myself regularly and I know you were, so it makes me feel a little bit better knowing that it didn't really do much. Don't hate me :) I will say they are fading a little bit and I've been shea buttering them everyday. So glad you are getting out of the house with her!! That picture of her in the rock n play is just the cutest!!

  26. Katie! She is just TOO cute! And yes, those baby blues are intense, but it gets better. Glad you guys are getting out and enjoying the summer! And we just confirmed our plans to visit our friends in Augusta, MI in August, so maybe we could meet up?
