Two Months of Hadley

Last Thursday, Hadley turned two months old!  We were at the beach then so this update is a bit delayed.  I'm also slightly bummed with how the pictures turned out, but it is what it is when you're trying to take them away from home with wrinkled blankets from being packed in a suitcase and a crazy dog and 5 year old nephew attempting to help you, ha!

Here's what Hadley girl has been up to this past month...

+ She'll have her two month well child visit on Friday afternoon, so still have no idea how much she weighs or how long she is.  She's wearing 0-3 months clothes right now (made me SO SAD to pack up all of the newborn stuff), but I've noticed in the last couple of days that even this size is starting to be too short on her!  We've officially moved up to size 1 diapers, too.  Pampers are still my favorite.

+ She has learned to blow little bubbles with her mouth and has 'found' her hands.  She loves to stare at them and always has them in her mouth during bath time.

+ Went on her first week long vacation to Saugatuck, Michigan (recap here).

+ Speaking of bath time, favorite thing ever.  We do a bath every night as part of our bedtime routine and she's seriously so sweet during it.  I think she is going to love the water.  Some of you asked about the sponge thing we have in her bathtub after seeing it on an Instagram story, and it's this one.  Perfect with her being so little still.

+ We had a bunch of not so fun firsts this month: first poop explosion that required me to put her directly in the bathtub because I had no idea what to do with her, first time that we had to aimlessly drive around to get her to stop crying & fall asleep, and first time having to leave a restaurant because she wouldn't stop screaming her head off, ha!  She usually does so well out to eat, but she was not having it one night on vacation ;)

+ She doesn't really enjoy tummy time anymore, mostly because I think she gets frustrated.  She tries to roll over - which she has done from her tummy to back once! - but can't really do it and just ends up wailing!  She does enjoy her playmat - we even packed it up and brought it on vacation because it makes her so happy.

+ Has stopped using these pacifiers and is now all about her Wubbanub.

+ She is still the smiliest, happiest baby ever.  She's starting to coo and make little sounds now which is pretty much the most adorable thing in the world.

+ If we want to keep her occupied for a good twenty minutes, we lay her on our bed so she can stare at our ceiling fan!  We don't even turn it on, but she's obsessed with it.

+ We used our video monitor for the first time this month.  She goes down about 9:30 and one Saturday night, we decided we didn't feel like going to bed early, so we set it up and went downstairs to watch the Olympics.  And then I cried for a good hour!!!  I have no idea what was wrong with me, but I just felt like she was growing up so fast (because really, it is going so fast) and I felt bad that she was up in our room all alone.  Once I finally recovered, this commercial came on and all of the tears began again.  I was a mess that night.

+ She's sleeping really well.  7-8 hours straight most nights, which I will totally take!  She's still sleeping in our room (and I want to keep her in there forever haha).  The naps are still a work in progress, but I can usually get about 30 minutes now when I put her down by herself during the day.

+ Has cradle cap on her eyebrows.  I'm not sure how to get rid of this since I don't want to use anything too close to her eyes - anyone have any ideas?  I plan on asking the pediatrician about it on Friday.

+ Loves to hang out with dad!  I've had a few things going on at night, so they've spent a few evenings together going for walks and running errands to Home Depot, Sherwin Williams, all the man places.

+ She's really starting to take an interest in toys and these are a few of her favorites: Wubbanub // Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes // Black & White Book // Baby Einstein Sea Dreams TV // Playmat // Mamaroo

It's been another amazing month!  She's growing and changing so much everyday, definitely not the very newborn baby we brought home from the hospital anymore.  Sometimes that makes me sad, but I'm also excited for the future together.  Here's to month #3!

A Week At The Beach

Hey all!

Sorry for going MIA this past week - we just got home from 7 days spent in Saugatuck, Michigan and while I had packed my computer in preparation of getting caught up on blogging while I had baby help, we actually had no cell service or wifi at the house, so those plans went out the window.  But I will say that it was actually kind of nice to be disconnected for a few days!  The cottage was right on the beautiful beach of Lake Michigan and Saugatuck is the cutest little town, so we had plenty to do to keep us busy.  Not to mention - going on a week long vacation with an 8 week old is a bit of a doozy, ha!  Not exactly the type of vacation that I'm used to ;)  We still had a fun time and made lots of memories... but I won't lie, I'm happy to be home!

Now for a good old fashioned vacation photo dump!

Hope you all had great weeks, too!  I plan on getting my blogging act together here finally and getting caught up on all my emails (I've been so bad about this) and hopefully getting up Haddie's 2 month update - where is the time going?! - and a few other fun posts :) Happy Monday!

Friday Round Up

Happy Friday!  A little look at life lately...

{This is our new version of happy hour, ha!  The Henry's Hard Soda's are SO good - orange is definitely my favorite, but the ginger ale is really good, too.}

{Our first farmers market trip last week!  She naturally slept through the entire thing, I swear the louder the place is, the better she sleeps.  We did not end up making a quiche like I mentioned... but we did buy a premade one so that counts, right?  Ps. this tee is only $5 right now, such a good deal!}

{I do love the Insta stories since I'm all about less apps to deal with, but you can't beat the Snapchat filters.}

{We got a new computer!  FINALLY.  We decided to go with the Mac Book Pro Retina and the screen is amazing.  We've always had PCs before this, so we're still getting the hang of it.  Send any tips or tricks this way!}

{This little lady is still sleeping pretty well at night.  She goes down around 9pm and sleeps anywhere from 3-5am and I'll take that for being 7 weeks old.  During the day is a totally different story.  Must. Be. Held. At all times... I try and put her down in her crib and she'll sleep for 15-20 minutes and then she's crying.  I don't know why - I do everything the same as nighttime: swaddle (I use this one during the day because it's cooler), sound machine, door closed, cool room, etc... only thing I can think of is that it's not dark in there?  If I could just get her to take ONE nap a day in her crib, it would be so helpful for me to have some free/alone time.}

Also I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your amazing and super thoughtful comments from my post on Monday.  I'm still working on responding to all of them, but I'm so glad that I'm not the only one feeling this way.  Maybe together we can bring blogging back to what it used to be!

And finally, a few things I was loving this week...

+ I needed to print square sized Instagram pictures for Haddie's baby book so I tried Foxprint for the first time and highly recommend!  The price was reasonable, they shipped super fast and the quality is great.

+ Individual sized Justins Peanut Butter Cups -- need I say more?

+ My hair has been needing a little pick-me-up lately, so I used this clarifying shampoo and this hair mask (both drugstore) and I was super impressed.  My hair was much shinier and smoother after one use.

+ Old Navy is killing it in the dress department lately.  I picked up this SUPER comfortable and flattering t-shirt dress in black this week and had to restrain myself from buying so many others.  Their dresses are really rivaling Anthro's right now - this one was my favorite.

+ Not loving?  This Korres skincare set.  I actually felt like the products worked, but holy crap I could not get past the smell.  Everything smells extremely strongly of roses and I just couldn't handle it.  I used the overnight sleeping mask once and had it on for 30 minutes before I had to get out of bed and wash it off because I was getting a headache!  Just save your money and skip it.

Have a great weekend!

Sleep + Links

Fist pumps for Friday!

If you follow me on Instagram, you know what the highlight of our week was -- Hadley slept through the night on Wednesday night!  It was fabulous.  She went down at 9:45pm and was still sleeping at 6:15am when I woke up... and then I actually woke her up myself to keep her on the schedule we're following (Moms On Call)... so who knows how long she really might have slept if I left her alone!  I'm sure I'll pay for that here soon, but it's amazing how a full night of sleep can make you feel like a brand new person!

Other than that, it was a normal week and I'm looking forward to a normal weekend.  We have dinner plans with friends tonight, but otherwise nothing else scheduled.  Which hasn't been the case since like June?!  So it will be really nice to just hang out as a family.  Hope you guys have a great weekend ahead, too!

+ I just started using this all natural deodorant because I felt like the Lavanila stuff just wasn't doing it anymore for me and I'm super impressed.  It works, it doesn't have any of that nasty/scary crap in it and it's CHEAP.

+ We haven't been to the farmers market all summer and I'm hoping to change that on Saturday morning.  Here's a delicious quiche recipe that is the perfect way to use all those veggies I plan on picking up!

+ The cutest shirt that has stripes and ruffle sleeves... I want.

+ Check out Michael Phelps diet for the Olympics because it is insane.  I wish I could eat like that!

+ Love this gallery wall by Lindsey Regan Thorne.  I totally want to recreate it in my own home and I really want to get one of these lamps.  Anyone have one?  Do they actually work?

+ And saving the best for last... the most popular, perfect tee from the Nordstrom sale is back in stock in all colors and sizes!  Not on sale anymore obviously, but the price is very reasonable.  A happy Friday indeed!

Confessions

image via

I confess I want this pizza sign in my house... no, but really.  It has been a while since I've done a confessions post and oh do I have a LOT of them to share today!  Let's get right into it...

I confess that I completely understand why women chop their hair off after having a baby.  Between it falling out all over the place and said baby somehow grabbing and yanking on it multiple times a day (ouchhh), I get it.  I can't do it because I chopped my hair a few years ago and am still scarred for life, but it makes total sense now.  I'm going to pick up this hairbrush that's supposedly a dupe for a Mason Pearson (but at a fraction of the price) because it claims to help prevent hair breakage, yes please.

I confess that if Hadley falls asleep, I will do ANYTHING to keep her asleep.  That means doing random things like taking Brady's collar off because I never realized how incredibly loud his tags jingle together, ha!

I confess that the other day I was holding my baby while eating chips + guac and dropped a big old dollop of guac on her forehead.  She didn't even flinch... and then I ate it off of her.  That is all.

I confess that I wore my wedding rings still don't fit and I feel so self conscious going out with a baby in public without them!  My hands aren't swollen or anything, but I really think my joints in my fingers got bigger.  It's so strange.  I'm about to just go get my rings re-sized because I hate not wearing them!

I confess that I will take this dress in every color, please and thank you.  So light and flowy and cute for these hot days of August.

I confess that despite all of the crappiness involved, I really miss being pregnant.  It was such an amazing experience and I loved having her all to myself inside of me, going with me wherever I went.  My body honestly feels lonely/empty now... if that makes any sense?  Tell me I'm not crazy?

I confess that while I do miss it, I am also so glad to have all my skincare products back that were off limits for so long!  This stuff makes THE biggest difference in how my skin looks and I am so glad we've been reunited ;)

I confess that my friends and I went to see Bad Moms on Tuesday night and I already want to see it again.  (Also it was my first night leaving Hadley and I was obsessively checking my phone for texts/updates from Nick, ha.)  Seriously so so so funny.  I laughed through the entire thing - highly recommend!

I confess that I'll be rockin' the mom swimsuits when we go on vacation here soon.  I ordered a bunch of one pieces (this is my fave, fingers crossed it fits!) because I just can't handle the stretch marks on my stomach.  I started using this cream to hopefully help with them... let me know if you swear by anything else.

Today I'm heading out of town to visit a friend and one of the highlights of that will be stopping by Trader Joes!  I love that place and can't wait to get my hands on some of their ice cream sandwiches, among (many) other things.  What are your favorite TJ picks?  Anything I NEED to try?

Enjoy your day!

Three Shows to Binge Watch

You guys.  I have never watched more TV in my life than I have in this past month.  Between the babies feeding sessions and requiring to be held to nap, the couch and I have been BFFs.  I'm thankful for the Olympics coming at the perfect time, but I've also been keeping busy with these three shows that I can't. stop. watching.  If you're in need of a good binge, check out one of these...

FUNNY: Grace & Frankie
Oh my gosh, did I need this show right after I gave birth.  While based on kind of a deep subject (two husbands leave their wives to marry each other after a 20 year affair), it is hilarious.  The characters are all so well played and you'll laugh through every episode.  We watched an episode a night after coming home from the hospital and it was exactly what I needed with those rough postpartum hormones!

CREEPY: Stranger Things
The hype is real with this one.  I read somewhere that it's basically 'The Goonies go monster hunting' and I couldn't say it better myself.  Set in the 80's, kids start going missing and plenty of other supernatural things are happening around town.  It'll creep you out, but you won't be able to watch the next episode fast enough.  We haven't finished the first season yet, so no spoilers!

DRAMATIC: UnREAL
I will never watch The Bachelor/ette the same way again.  This is a scripted show about the behind the scenes aspects of making a dating reality show (if you followed that, haha).  The drama is literally unreal and I can't believe the lengths the producers will go to to get a good story.  I'm almost done with the first season and have heard the second one is even better.

I also have Shameless and Jane The Virgin on deck.  I'm hoping to get Haddie to start napping somewhere other than my arms though soon so I can do things like eat.. shower.. blog.. you know ;) Taking any tips on how to get her to nap in her bassinet during the day- she does so well in there at night, but prefers to be held for sleeping all day.

Have you seen any of these shows?

A Bunch of Randoms

Happy Friday from this busy girl!  She is starting to love her playmat that my friend Cate got her!

Can I just tell you that I have been writing this since Tuesday?  It started off as an confessions post and then I couldn't finish it in time on Wednesday or Thursday, so I just gave up and it became a Five on Friday.  Because apparently it now takes me 3 days to get my act together for one (not that exciting) post ;)  But here I am and it's Friday so YAY for that!

ONE | Olympics
Best part about this Friday is the start of the Olympics!  Summer is my favorite to watch, especially gymnastics and volleyball.  I love it all though.  I'm just so happy that something exciting will be on TV 24/7... since I feel like I'm up 24/7 right now.  I think we're going to be ordering pizza and watching the Opening Ceremonies tonight.

TWO | Instagram
What do we think of the newest Instagram update with the stories?  Basically completely stealing from Snapchat and kind of even wondering how they can do that... but not going to lie, I like it.  At first I rolled my eyes aaand then I realized how nice it is to now only have to check ONE app instead of two!  I'm all about saving time these days, haha.  So make sure to follow me over @ ka5ohare - if you like pictures of babies and dogs and trips to Starbucks, anyway.

THREE | Tanning Help
I am THE palest I have ever been for the beginning of August.  I haven't cared too much because there is about 8 million other things to care about with a newborn, but we are going to a wedding shower this weekend which meant I needed to get my act together.  My two favorite sunless tanners: this lotion for every day (I promise the smell has improved so much) and these towels for when you really need to look good aka pretending you just got back from a beach vacation.

FOUR | Blog Buddies
Nothing better than blogging friends!  Sara is the sweetest and sent us these gorgeous Kate Spade picture frames for Haddie's nursery.  I am so in love!  They look perfect and I can't wait to fill them with pictures from our newborn photo shoot.  Thank you again, Sara!!  We love you!

FIVE | New Computer
My computer is in terrible shape aka it's about to completely die on me at any minute, BUT this weekend we are fixing that!  We are going to be buying a very seriously needed new computer and I. Can't. Wait. I'll finally be able to get back on my blogging track and doing all the online shopping - like this adorable bodysuit :) and I just ordered this skincare set, can't wait to try it!

Hope you guys have fun weekends ahead, too!

What I Really Used From My Hospital Bag

Good morning!  Happy AUGUST!!  Oh my gosh, where is the summer going.

This post today is a follow up to one I wrote back in May about what I had packed in my hospital bag.  I'm a chronic over-packer, so I knew I wasn't going to use everything that I had brought.  Here's what I really ended up using and a couple of things I WISHED I would have packed that I didn't...

FOR ME:
+ Pajamas/lounge clothes.  Yes yes yes.  Most important.  The morning after Hadley was born, I took my first shower and changed into my own clothes and I honestly felt like a new person.  I brought a cheap pair (but still cute of course because pictures!) because the recovery process was a bit messy - to put it nicely, haha - and that way I didn't care if they got ruined.  This pair was sooo comfy.  (I never did use my robe I had packed, but I've used it tons since being home.)

+ Slippers and flip flops were nice to have.  Hospital floors are gross and you're going to be at least a little swollen so slip on shoes are your best bet.  Again I went with cheap slippers for the same reason as above and these worked out perfectly.

+ A sports bra to help prevent my milk from coming in.  I couldn't breastfeed unfortunately, so my doctor told me to bring a super tight sports bra and start wearing it immediately after giving birth.  My milk still came in a couple days after coming home, but it wasn't too bad.  I also wrapped my chest with an ace bandage over the bra.

+ Camera and charger... of course!!  This is the biggest day of your life and you're going to want to document everything.  Don't forget to make sure the camera is charged BEFORE you go to the hospital.

+ Toiletries: so I didn't wash my hair while we were at the hospital since we were only there for a short time and I didn't want to deal with it, but it was so nice to have my own face wash and toothbrush and I even did throw on some makeup.  Remember, so. many. pictures!  And lots of visitors, too.  Besides, I just felt better once I pulled myself together and threw on a little concealer.  (I didn't touch the stretch mark cream I brought).

+ My own pillow!  I was so glad to have this.  Way more comfy than hospital pillows and it was nice to smell like home when I was (attempting) to get some sleep.

+ Maxi dress/loose fitting maternity outfit for going home.  Two days after giving birth, I still looked six months pregnant so you're definitely not going to be wearing your skinny jeans home (sadly).
Other things I didn't use: my own underwear because the mesh underwear is the most fabulous thing ever (steal allll of it), anything entertainment-wise because there was so much going on at all times, a belly binder because I couldn't handle anything super tight on my stomach for a few days after - even tank tops were driving me crazy - and snacks.  Our hospital had tons of food available 24/7, so we barely got into our stash that we packed.

One thing I wish I would have brought for myself... my own toilet paper!  I originally had it on my list, but a few people said I wouldn't need it so I didn't pack any.  But in the hospital, they wanted me to 'pat' things dry down there after using the peri-bottle and the TP was so scratchy I wanted to die.  Definitely just throw a roll in there just in case!

FOR BABY:
+ A going home outfit is a must, but don't be like me and pack like 5 different outfits for her to wear throughout the hospital stay, haha so not necessary.  She only wore these side snap shirts the entire time because they were so easy and besides, she was swaddled the entire time anyway.

+ Bring a newborn hat if you have/want one!  I ordered Hadley's from Infant Teenie Beanie and thought it was way cuter than the typical hospital one... I mean it had a bow on it :)

+ We did bring a couple swaddle blankets from home, but barely used them.  Things seemed to get dirty quickly (probably because we'd never changed a diaper before she was born, ha) and it was nice to have tons of freshly clean ones on hand from the hospital.  Plus it's less laundry to do when you get home!

Other things we didn't use: pacifiers, baby book (our hospital doesn't do the baby footprints there - they give you stuff to take home to do it, but your hospital might be different so make sure to check if that's important to you) and the boppy pillow.  Honestly, you don't need much for the babies.  The hospital provides literally everything - diapers, wipes, swaddles, burp cloths, etc. - which is nice.

Keep in mind, I had a vaginal delivery without any complications and we were only in the hospital for 48 hours, so this list may look differently than someone who had a c-section for example.  But let me know if you have any questions!  I know lots of you are about to have babies soon and I'm so excited for you.  It's an experience like none other and those days in the hospital as a new family are some of the sweetest of your life!
